  1. I am traveling with a buddy on Carnival Miracle at New Year. After booking while browsing these forums I found out that it has a "hosted singles group" on board. Although we are 40 something single males, we didn't book the trip with the group and it seems that someone posted here that it would cost about $250 more if we had booked it that way. Can you join the group after paying for your cruise by paying the group organizers the difference or would it cost more that way? In addition, I have a couple of questions regarding the value for money in joining the group.

I took the liberty of browsing the internet and found out what the hosts offer and it does sound like fun but is it worth it? It mentions private cocktail parties with complimentary drinks etc. I'm certainly open to joining if it makes sense but would the money be better spent that way or just using it for other things? As an example, having a nice romantic meal with a new found friend at Nick and Nora's might be a better option. Do the cocktail parties etc. last all night or are they just for an hour or two and then the single people go out into the ship in general and continue to have fun with the rest of the people on the cruise? How many parties are there and is the majority of later evening hours spent participating in group activities or is the majority of time spent at the bars and lounges outside of group activities?

We are from the Toronto area and although we've gone to some of the local "singles events" we've found them to be hit and miss so it kind of makes me wonder about this initiative. Having said that, I guess if all of the single women were locked up at one end of the boat and I was at the other end I can't imagine there would be any price that would be too high to join but both my friend and I are pretty social so if the singles group were only gone for an hour or two at a time and the cost worked out to an average of $20 or $30 a drink I'd probably think twice about it. I will admit that I'm leaning towards just doing my own thing with my buddy and taking my chances that I'll have a good time later on with the same people but if I'm going to be missing out on something special I'm open to hearing about it. I'm not trying to be cheap it's just that I've never relied on anyone to help me meet women in the past so I'm kinda skeptical that I would find it worth it. I am curious though ... I know I'm asking a lot of questions but this is my first carnival cruise and one of the main reasons we picked a cruise was because we had heard that there are often a lot of single women on them. Is that true? Sounds like we might have hit the jackpot with this one turning out to have a singles "group" on it. On this type of cruise is it typical that the "singles hosted group" will contain the majority of the single women or will there be more in the rest of the 2000+ passenger list?
