    Hi,

We have been on 28 cruises with almost all being Carnival.  The only NCL cruise was 2003 on the Star out of Hawaii.

I am very comfortable/satisfied with Carnival but we have been on the Glory too many times and we want to cruise Jan 2024 without having to travel so NOLA is our choice.  Since we are taking a Carnival Alaskan cruise later this month and another in April I am looking at the budget a little.

NCL, We get a total of 2 drinks a day so not worth the "free" drinking package since the gratuities come to $300 plus.  Approx how much is an average drink if you pay per drink?

Not looking for specialty dining, I assume the main dining is a good option?

Confused on end of cruise gratuities.  Carnival charges a certain amount per day, does NCL?  Or is it like the old days and you pay what you want to who you want?

So far customer service at NCL hasn't been too accommodating.  I was assigned a rep that I can't understand, I only speak english.

Overall experience for those that have traveled Carnival vs NCL, which are you more satisfied with?  I am talking the entire experience, food, service, entertainment, embarkation etc.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Well thanks to the first response we are good to go with the drink package.  Wondering about the overall NCL experience.  Being Platinum with Carnival there are some perks but it sure would be nice to experience other cruise lines.  We are not the party type, we do like our shows/entertainment.  We miss the Broadway style shows Carnival use to have.  Does NCL offer good entertainment?  Hopefully no up charge?

    Thanks

  3. Yes Puerta Maya.  We actually spent a week at El Cid's when the cruises were stopped due to covid.  Neither one of us are drinkers and not looking to venture far.  Taking this cruise to relax and eat!  Both of us are in our 50's, I just hate to not get in the water somewhere!!  We did enjoy the snorkeling at El Cid's when we stayed there.

Not as worried about a sandy beach, snorkeling area will work!

    Thanks

Go Airport is set up at the FLL airport, but you are better off reserving with them or one of the others (SAS, QLS, MJS, etc.) ahead of time - should save you a few $ compared to the walk up rate.

Or skip the shared shuttles and use Uber or Lyft.  Standard Lyft or UberX (good for 2-3 passengers plus normal bags) will run about $35 each way between FLL & POM -- not much more than the standard shared shuttle fare of $15 per person each way. :classic_wink:

    Thanks!

  5. I never did find out for sure what the answer is to this. What I do know is that once on the ship you can book at the Carnival excursion desk just the zipline part of this for $59.99 and avoid paying extra for the beach which by the way is the free beach that is a 5 minute walk from the ship. I did not see just the zipline tour available online but it is available once on the ship. We did book this but it was raining so bad that we instead took the refund.

Clip N Zip is a good experience. We did this zipline after they opened a few years ago and it was a lot of fun! Very safe, I highly recommend!! If I had to bet on this...I bet that you can just walk up and pay the $59.99 but I am not sure.

  6. I know Uber can pick up at the airport but wondering how it would work at the port? Can they get into the port area or do we have to walk outside the port to meet the car??

    Any info/experiences would be great.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I have the same question and I see your question wasn't really answered. Were you able to get Uber from the terminal?

  7. I believe you need an excursion now. Similar to the sky chairs. I think the port bought out the original owner. Hope someone who was there recently can shed light.

Thanks for the reply, it looks like no one else is going to respond. Years ago we just walked across the street and zip lined for a reasonable rate. I am thinking now the only way is to go through Carnival for this.

  8. I understand Clip n Zip is across the street from the Mahogany Bay terminal. Do we have to go through Carnival for this adventure? Or can we just walk up? Clip n Zip's website doesn't say and they haven't returned my email...

  9. Hi The Graphic1...we are heading out on the Elation Feb 16th stopping at the same ports. Did you find a good place to shop in Progresso? My daughter loves to shop...how was your trip? Cozumel...we plan on going to Chankanaab. Been there before but really enjoy it.

HOW WAS THE WATER TEMP? Any tips you give will be appreciated!!

    Thanks

  10. Cruising out of New Orleans March 2nd on the Sunshine and I am a little concerned about parade traffic. Parades start uptown that day at 11am and once in the past we got stuck in some bad parade traffic. Thinking of boarding a little earlier than usual. I understand we want traffic to die down for the passengers getting off the ship...with Priority boarding I read that we can go to our cabin as soon as it is ready, not like before where we had to wait till 1PM. Any experience as to the best, earliest time to board> Really want to avoid traffic!!

    Thanks,

    Alan
