NCL Escape and Seven Seas Mariner last night and today at 2 pm.

Our friends now are at Seven Seas Mariner  they been told the ship will start moving at 10 pm . They are doing TA from Barcelona

Our first visit

 

Although we’ve been to the Pacific side of Costa Rica on prior Panama Canal cruises, our two visits to Puerto Limón on this B2B were our first to that country on the Atlantic side.  On leg 1 (Feb. 4), we took an NCL excursion called Tortuguero Canals and River Cruise.  Having really enjoyed a boat ride down the Tarcoles River on a tour out of Puntarenas, and seen amazing wildlife, we were hoping for something similar here.  

 

Unfortunately, with the Gem not arriving in Puerto Limón until 11am, the shore excursion did not leave until after lunch, in the heat of the day.  By that time in the tropics, most critters with half a brain are off somewhere taking a nap.  Still, thanks to our guide and boat driver, we managed to see a sloth (sleeping in a tree, I can’t recall how many toes 😂), a couple of small crocodiles, a cormorant, several yellow-crowned night herons, a tiny poison dart frog, and a huge iguana. The boat ride evoked Disney’s Jungle Cruise, except that our boat had tiny molded plastic bucket seats that were extremely uncomfortable and really diminished our enjoyment of the ride.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the boat ride, we made a stop at a big souvenir store.  By this point, I just wanted to get back on the ship.  But even that turned out to be a hassle, since the Gem had only one gangway open, and with numerous excursions returning at the same time, it was a bit of a wait in a single line to get back on board. 

 

We did have a beautiful evening sky and a full moon for our sailaway though.

It’s not the blanket, it’s NCL beach towel. 😀

Took this shot in Bliss Observation Lounge, my DH and I could  found two vacant seats only near sleeping with her bare feet lady , she was really loud in her sleep 😌

We had our drinks really fast and left her alone. Did not stop myself of taking the picture. 🤪

Use it or lose it. NCL won’t apply unused non refundable OBC to your account for the next cruise. Happened to me once 😔

  Did  you get e-mail about changed  Port Terminal from Manhattan to Brooklyn? and after that they cancelled the whole cruise ?

Really enjoying your review ,when you'll done with this one, would go to your other travel experiences  on your blog.  This is so true you would enjoy Breakaway in warmer climate much more , because of spacious outside areas.

Great review. Very honest. Read a review from a woman who was on the same sailing (I read her review on cruise life on Facebook.). All she did was complain. She said how people save every nickel and dime to go on vacation and they feel they didn't get their monies worth. I replied "if you were on a land vacation and it rained every day would you be looking for a refund from the resort. Anyway, I'm glad you made the best of your vacation.

We did see a lot of happy and smiled faces around, did not hear any complaint on board. A lot of people enjoyed their vacation and "they did get their monies worth" :) I guess it depends on what kind of thoughts people have: one is trying to get the best of the situation, another is trying to ruine everything.

Have asked but nobody has been able to confirm the Captain but somebody gave the name D. Svensson who was definitely not Captain Matko on your cruise. There were letters to the cabins signed by the Captain but no-one has come back verifying who is Master. Maybe one of the returning cruisers can confirm? On this cruise guests complimenting Captain for frequent and informative announcements' date=' the exact opposite of what we heard from your cruise. Good to hear there

was an improvement.

Master was Captain Matko Candrlic on our 01.05.2018 - 01.19.2018 cruise, he gave enough information to us during each day.

Thank you for the nice and true review, my DH and I feel the same about the cruise and the cruise team who 's doing great job non stop.

Really appreciate Master decisions about sick person on board and change of course on our way back home due to the new storm.

NCL shows the real care of the passengers and their safety.
