There is a ferry that runs a set schedule between Mykonos and Delos; it only runs a few times a day and less often in low tourist season. The ferry offers the option of just transportation over and back OR transportation plus a guided tour. I have no idea whether you can pick up a guide on the fly if you do not pre-book. I don't recall seeing guides hanging around the dock but then I wasn't really paying attention.

The ferry site is here:  https://www.delostours.gr/en/

I don't really think there are a lot of private options for transport -- either ship or ferry.

  2. We will be stopping in Mykonos in October on a cruise and plan to walk around Mykonos and visit Delos.  Is Delos convenient to do without ship's tour or tour by one of many private companies? I was told there is a water taxi that runs frequently from town and not too far from the cruise port and that you can readily get a guide once you get off at Delos? Any comments on ease and timing of this water taxi and guides? Estimated costs?

  3. Our Celebrity cruise docks there in January and we have arrange a tour of the city with a local tour company. We were told the port is quite large and it is a far distance from the ship to the gate. Do the cruise ships provide shuttles to the gate or do we need to pay the tour company to enter the port and pick us up?

  4. Question is on apparent different weight limits for checked baggage on international versus domestic flights in South America. We are flying Delta to/from a Rio-Buenos Aires cruise with a side trip to Iguassu Falls on Aerolineas Argentinas Air. Delta has a checked bag weight limit of 50 pounds while Aerolineas Argentina's confirmation shows 33 pound limit. I've tried unsuccessfully to reach the latter to confirm or clarify. Would appreciate if anyone can help clarify and/or provide any information on added costs for excess baggage weight. Thanks in advance.

  5. We are a senior couple cruising Oceania from Rio Brazil to Buenos Aires Argentina and are interested in any feedback regarding some of the ports of call. We are not beach or snorkeling people. We like private tours by locals, either pre-arranged or by picking up a cab/tour at the dock. We also like just walking around the port and nearby city/town based on any safety considerations.

I would appreciate any feedback on the following ports.

    -Ilha Grande. Options?

-Buzios- Options? Thinking about walking Bardot Boardwalk and visiting Town. Any concern on safety?

    -Parati- Options?

-Sau Paulo. This is about 113 miles from port. I do not understand how ship offers both a 4.5 hour and an 8.5 hour package considering this driving distance. Is city worth such long driving times? Options closer to port?

-Porto Belo – Options? I understand there are shops by the port and a free shuttle to town. Leaning toward on-own or local transportation just to visit town. Any concerns on safety?

    -Rio Grande- Options?

  7. We are on Oceania 10 day cruise leaving Rio on Dec 12 and arriving Buenos Aires where we will take a transfer to the local airport for a flight. At start of trip, will convert dollars into Brazilian money. How do I plan to get cash needed for shore visits in Uruguay? Cash needed to pay the transfer from the Buenos Aires port to the local airport?

  8. We are looking at options for a 14 day South America Cruise around Cape Horn for Jan-Feb 2016. I would appreciate any feedback on the following general questions:

    1. Any relative outside temperature differences between Jan and Feb?

    2. Any relative differences in sea roughness around the Horn between Jan and Feb?

    3. Any advantage of sailing East to West, Buenos Aires to Valparaiso, or West to East, Valparaiso to Buenos Aires?

    4. Is there much to see in Falkland Islands? (some ships stop there and some don’t)

    5. Pros/Cons on Princess, Celebrity, Holland or Norwegian Cruise Line for this trip?

    Thank you
