Yikes. Looks like it might be that way for a bit 😞 http://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

I've used it multiple times on Carnival with no problem. Too bad it doesn't exist for HA.
-
This is my first time on HA. I had a question and I tried emailing and got nothing. Phone call was perfect. Short wait time, great response. Seems like they just aren't ready to use methods of communication that the rest of the world uses. That said, the phone response was top notch so I'll give them a pass and see how the on board experience is before deciding if I'll be back. That's what really matters.

Can you book a 12 day or something that qualifies and just pay for the next cruise on the same ship? Basically works out to be a longer cruise. Might find some good options if you look at it that way.
-
What's crazy about that list is that someone tried to bring something aboard that made them have to add it to the list. Hmmm. Better bring my circular saw just in case I need to do some wood working on that sea day.

It's really too bad that some companies still haven't embraced more modern convenient forms of communication like email, online chat, etc. HAL seems to be really behind with this. I did have to call about merging my Mariner info and they were great but an online chat would have been more convenient.

Oh man, as someone who's into stupid expensive flights for every cruise, seeing complaints about a 4 hour drive to Ft Lauderdale is funny. You locals have it great!

Made a reservation with Alamo very expensive 1 day almost 300.00
Wow - I had tried a number of companies but not Alamo. I just booked with Alamo from Montreal to Boston with no drop fee! Hopefully it actually works out. I'm a little worried about there being a mistake and it not happening in the end but they did send me a confirmation. Thanks for the tip 😉
Level 6 - we're going in late July so I'd be amazed if there is trouble then.

We are doing a one way rental to Montreal on 17th and staying near the port . If there’s still an issue Holland America should take care of it.
I tried sending this as a PM but the system won't let me so apologies for hijacking the thread. How are you doing the one way rental? Through whom? I need to do this from Montreal to Boston for our cruise in July.

I always like late seating so there isn't a rush to get ready. Only issue for me is that I request a window seat and often it's dark when I'm eating so it's not as nice of a view. VERY MUCH a 1st world problem.

I've never had anything go missing but had a hard shell suitcase get absolutely crushed last cruise. Broke the plastic in multiple places. Those containers they use to load luggage on the ship take a lot of luggage so if yours is on the bottom, your camera may be in more pieces than you started with.

Just book through Carnival and then submit a price protection for the cheapest local vendor you can find. I pocketed $300 in credits using this plan on my Miracle cruise a month ago.
-
We got a free galley tour and tasting on our last cruise and we were not platinum. It pays to get to know the officers on board the ships.
How do you go about that? I don't think I've ever had an opportunity to chat with an officer
-
We were on the same cruise and saw the same exact results. I missed the first few days since I left my charger for my phone and had to buy one in cozumel but the internet was virtually useless for most of our group. Several went and got a refund for their prepaid internet it was so bad.
Likely because the OP was downloading a 300mb video!:') :')

How many of you? I just got off the Miracle on the Feb 17 sailing. We had a deck 7 ext balcony for a room of 4 people. If it was only two of us, I wouldn't pay the upgrade but with more than two, it makes sense.
-
I've done this twice. Legend and Miracle. Emailed early the week before the cruise both times. I didn't get a response either time but I got exactly what I wanted both times. On the Legend the Maitre'd did come by and ask if we were happy with the table so he did get the request.

According to our last Cruise Director, waves really only contribute to pitch (front/back motion) of the ship. The side to side rolling is almost all because of wind hitting the side of the ship. So the motion really is a combination of wave height and wind. Also wind direction will matter quite a bit.

Download the app prior to your cruise. All deck plans are on there and they show the bathrooms. They are also posted around the ship by all the elevators.

I just paid for one day internet to print off my boarding passes on board. Apparently the social internet plan will allow you access to spirit's website but it wasn't available on the last day. I wanted to get checked in right at the 24 hour mark because I didn't pay for seat assignments and wanted to get confirmed with 4 seats together so it was well worth the $16. Not sure why everyone hates Spirit. It was great. Good price. Good service. No problems.
-
Yeah my 12 y/o had to wear it. Absolutely hated it but we didn't let her take it off. Ripped it off in the debarkation line up with authority!

Thanks for your review. Did your children participate in the kids club?
No. They pretty much wanted to stick with us.

Is adam a tall,.good looking british man? I think he was our CD on fascination a few years ago
Sent from my SM-G925V using Forums mobile app
Yep
-
Who was the CD?
Adam. He was fine. Did everything you'd expect from a CD but didn't really blow me away. Maybe his strong point is the behind the scenes work because the ship entertainment organization was quite good.
The best part of what I saw from him was the CD Q&A. He had some good stories. Definitely worth attending.

Depends on what types of excursions you are on. We went for a self guided hike up the mountain at Juneau and it was drenching rain that day. We had decent gear though and didn't want to miss it. If you'll stay inside the ship when it's raining and your excursions aren't too bad, then you might get away with less. Mind you, then you won't get to experience Alaska.
HAL Data Breach
in Holland America Line

Sure looks like they are using the Corona Virus to hide this notification. Geez. Happened a while back and they just post about it now? Sounds pretty low risk if it's just a matter of a few employee email accounts being compromised. I don't imagine that they are emailing around usernames/passwords. @CruiserBruce - security is a huge topic covering everything from physical security, firewalls, remote access practices, employee training on social engineering issues, etc. No one is going to reply with a detailed plan on what got missed by HAL. HAL probably responded with many pages of documentation on security enhancements to improve things, but even then, it's a constant improvement process that has no one answer.
