  1. Yes, I agree no need to go on the ships tour. It's easy to just walk off (the ship remember no customs, etc) get your luggage and catch a cab to your hotel. Done it twice. The hotel will keep the luggage and you can get a tour from there. Have used BDT three times and can't say enough good things about them. Excellent.

BTW, the airport isn't close to the city so it's really going to double expense in taxi fare. Have a wonderful time in Barcelona. .

  2. Reflection update from my 3/25 sailing:

Thanks...do you have any idea on Captains Club host or Michaels host?

  3. We visited Martinique on Wednesday, December 9, aboard Serenade of the Seas. It was the first visit by that ship to this port. The Seabourn Odyssey was also there. We had heard many stories on these boards, and on the ship, about how people felt unwelcome in this port. Not so.

There were many young "ambassadors" on the docks to welcome us, distribute maps, answer questions, etc. They all spoke good English, although many people in the town did not. Hey, it is a French country. Learn a few simple phrases and try to use them.

We chose to wander the town. We visited the Cathedral and library. We did some window shopping and stopped at a sidewalk cafe for a leisurely drink and people watching. Many stores had signs saying they would accept US dollars.

We found the best prices for souveniers at the kiosks along the docks.

Martinique seems to be a very large island. Some people said they met taxi drivers on the docks and bargained for island tours which they enjoyed. Other people caught the ferry that went to the beaches. Most people seemed to enjoy the port.

Thanks for the great information. We'll be there next week and most likely will wander the town too.

  4. We had a late lunch today at a small but nice upscale restaurant near the Recoleta Cemetery. Very nice decor -- lovely chandeliers with white tablecloths over a black underlying tablecloth. Excellent but fairly formal wait staff. So this wasn't a food court style meal.

My husband had two large empanadas with different fillings, which were so delicious that he ordered a third (I mean -- how much can this guy eat) and I had a large (and I mean LARGE) cesear salad with chicken -- delicious salad with excellent quality ingredients. We were also served a bread basket with four herbed rolls and a delicious large portion of herbed flat bread. The flat bread was served with a excellent roasted eggplant spread. I had one cafe con leche but the hubby had two. Total price for this feast was 239 pesos.

We are finding that the meals in Buenos Aires have been large and so far the quality has been great. But given that late lunch, even though a number of the restaurants don't open until 8:30 PM for dinner, we think we may just have some appetizers at the hotel bar for dinner tonight.

Northern Aurora... your restaurant reviews and recommendations are just outstanding. Our mouths are watering and can't wait to partake in some of these delights. But, what is the name of the above restaurant? We'll be in need of a nice late lunch in the Recoleta area on our arrival day. If you can't remember the name maybe a street and we'll hunt it up. Also, the other day on our roll call you told me about a wonderful dinner, do you remember name or location of that restaurant? We'd love to go there too. Honestly, you should be a food critic you make all sound just so delicious. Thanks....

  5. Dr. Dawggy. Thanks for all the details on the exchange and the dining tips, they were perfect. We saw your earlier post regarding lunch at the Galleria food court which I noted. Mark is a vegetarian and in food courts you can find almost anything so I'm sure we'll be stopping in for a quick bite.

    Thanks so much..Connie & Mark

  6. Merlinite, Wonderful information. We'll be looking for the "cow in the window" in a few weeks. Is it directly behind the Alvear Palace? Any more hints on locating that cow? Your post helped us figure out our peso budget and guide us on how much to exchange. Thanks so much.

  7. Learned from a Food & Beverage director that coffee for the buffet and MDR are made differently for each class of ship.

The Solstice class coffee is brewed from real coffee beans and is fresh. The configuration of the Solstice beverage stations allows for water to flow right into urns to brew there. Not the best but certainly better than on the Millennium ships.

Coffee on Millennium is an instant coffee mixed with hot water in the kitchen. Not brewed at all. It's then put into the buffet urns which by the way can't heat ...thus horrid lukewarm coffee, Same method used for MDR. Was told the configuration of the kitchen not on the same deck as restaurants doesn't allow for brewing coffee and having water piped right into beverage stations.

Going to be on the Infinity for 28 days and for my morning coffee...it will be Starbucks Via! Will treat myself to a afternoon & evening Café A Bacio. But, in the long run I'll take bad coffee just to be cruising the oceans.

  8. Hi,

My husband and I are from Naples, Florida. We are on the March 1st Infinity. We are looking to do a private tour with someone to share the expense. We like the private drivers so much better than the bus tours from the Ship.

If you have some idea of places to go and are also looking to share the ride, please let me know. We are starting to do our research.

Would love to hear from you. Where in South Florida are you from?

    Vicki

    Hi--

We live just across the alley in Aventura, practically neighbors. Are you doing the B2B? Have you signed up for our Roll Calls yet? There are quite a few private tours posted there for Lima, Manta, Puerto Arenas which are good.

For now, we're on the ships Punta Tombo tour just to play it safe. But, very open to a private tour it's well recommended. My head is still spinning about the best port to view the penguins and if we're arriving too late in the season. Some on our roll call are going to view the colonies in Punta Arenas not in Puerto Madryn. But, as mentioned a friend recommended Puerto Madyrn is the place for viewing.

Vicki, here's my email if you would like to contact me directly, cruisingconnie@outlook.com

  9. Hi

We're on the same cruise and have some of the same concerns. We've been told by friends this is the best place to see the Penguins. Have you found out anything further on migration and colony size in March. Since all the tours on our roll call forum have been snapped up I've been looking at the ones through the cruise ship which are open but quite expensive. Are you interested in arranging our own tour? We would.

  10. Just returned from our Bermuda cruise. We took a cab to the port for a $50 flat fee which surprised us as the port is maybe 10 miles from the airport. While on our cruise someone mentioned a shuttle and so we decided to give it a try. Very pleased. The van held 6 people so we weren't crowded. It was clean, fast and the driver very nice. Believe it was $13 pp.

    No problems at all.

    Have a wonderful cruise.

  11. Is anybody else experiencing problems with the Celebrity website. Last night I couldn't get into my reservation and this morning I have access to my reservation window but the Shore Excursion tab isn't working and the option to view and book is not available.

    What's the deal?

Same with me. It's frustrating, I'm trying to book some shore excursions.

    :(
