Anthem
I, a nurse, was just going to say this same thing. Handwashing is, and has always been, the single most important means of preventing the spread of infection. In fact, alcohol-based sanitizers contribute to the proliferation of antibiotic resistant organisms. Not to mention that they irrite my skin. I will sometimes use them but would prefer to detour to the washroom just prior to having my meal.

The last time I cruised I was with a group but in my own room. I slept till 12:30. You should have heard the disdain in the voice of the room service person answering the phone. "No, madame. We do not have BACON. It is 1:30 pm. Would you like a SANDWICH?" BAHAHA. No, just send coffee, please and thank you. ;)

Don't forget to see CATS
I might be in the minority but I'm a huge fan. Lol. So excited it's on Oasis. It was my very first Broadway show. I've seen it 3 times. My kids are going to love it whether they like it or not. 😂

It's been years since I've cruised other than one solo last year not on RC. I just booked Oasis in April. So excited as we were on her inaugural sailing when my daughter was an infant. The new configuarion of the boards is confusing to me. I know there was a separate place to post pre-cruise questions in the past but I can't seem to find it. My kids are will be 11 and 8 when they sail and neither remember cruising. I'm looking to book a pre-cruise hotel when they can wake up with the ships magically in port.
Also, am I correct in that all room service now incurs as charge vs. only late night?
Any other changes you feel I need to know about? I'm researching the heck out of it but research never replaces experience. 🙂
TIA!

I'm probably in the minority but I tip well - especially if I plan on returning during the cruise. A steak dinner where I live is always at least $200 which means a stadard $40 tip. So maybe I don't do twice that much but I would do at least $25-30.

Will there be new connecting oceanview balcony staterooms?
I booked connecting OV staterooms for an April sailing.

I actually prefer the track around the pool. I find the track on Oasis and Allure annoying at best and dangerous at worst.
-
Wicked would be great. I don't think you will see Kristin Chenoweth on the ship though. She is way beyond that in her career although I am not a fan.
-
Please don't rule Chops out for your special dinner. I have taken my kids there many times. All positive experiences. If they are well-behaved you'll be more than welcome. Though the cruise line does not encourage families by discounting for kids, etc., it's grumpy fellow cruises that are the real issue. Some just don't like to see kids in those dining venues, period. The staff is most happy to have you there in my experience.
-
There is no kids menu and they are not able to order from the MDR menu. However, they will make pasta with butter or accommodate if they can with ingredients already in their kitchen, smaller portions, etc. at least that has been my experience.

If I saw anyone using their phone on a cruise I think I'd do them a favor and throw it overboard.
That might not be a good idea.

Making the Pinnacle club is a very impressive achievement considering Diamond Plus is 175 credits while Pinnacle is 700 . Its on my bucket list - hope I make it  However, I would like to see another tier between Diamond Plus & Pinnacle. What do you think?

I agree that it would be nice to see an in-between tier. I have always enjoyed looking forward to the next level but with only 189 points, there's not much feeling of anticipation.

The cruise blues... Happens to the best of us.
-
as a Brit Im in favour of it because i really am fed up with whats been said about Brits not tipping up. Alot of us do and well .... I do have to add and please dont shoot me down in flames why dont they just add the cost to the cost of the cruise and then if we want to we can add an extra tip members of staff as and if we feel like it.
I couldn't agree more.

I am always afraid I'm going to forget to change one of the settings properly so I just call my carrier the morning we leave and have them turn off all data capability. When we get back I call again to have it turned back on.

It depends on who you talk to, and on what day. I have tried to book this add on for some time now. First, they are waiting on the web development team to load the option in on the precruise planner and the next time you call, it is not going to be available online and has to be booked onboard. Called yesterday, it is going to be available online sometime soon and will laso be available to book onboard during the first two days after embarkation.
I also agree that this SHOULD be book before arrival in the stateroom, so the little ones are completely surprised as it shows on the promo video on
Royal's website and the television commercial. This has been highly marketed for some time now and the RCCL staff should ALL be on the same page and not giving out bad information. As I said it depends on who answers the phone as to which answer you get at the time.
I truly enjoy our RCCL cruises in almost every aspect, this activity in ny opinion needs a little more attention from management. I called RCCL this morning, as of now January is 2/3's over with and the reservation agents could not tell me any of the select sailings that the Barbie package is available on as advertised. It amazes me that the package is advertised and still not available, nor do the agents seem to be even aware of it.
I have sent a letter to the customer service dept at corporate regarding this. 15 days later there has been no response at all. The certified letter was received on the 7th according to USPS.
Agreed. My cruise sails in January but returns in February. Therefore, if they do not roll it our for this sailing, they have failed to meet their own commitment.
It is frustrating. How difficult is it to change the text on the website if a roll-out date has changed?? Stuff like this happens all the time and it really looks bad, INHO, because it is most easily preventable.

I called the D+ desk again today as there is still no way to pre-book online. The rep didn't have any new information so they transferred me to the excursions people. The woman I spoke with didn't sound very confident but she said it is available and can be purchased once on board at guest services.
If this is the case, it's disappointing. The whole point, IMHO, is for the child to walk into the room and be wowed. Not the same to have to wait for bedding to be delivered...
-
I agree as well. I'm so happy that I was able to reserve a cabana on Barefoot Beach on our upcoming Allure sailing. It's the only way to do a beach day with 2 little ones and the MIL! I actually chose another Western itinerary so we could go to Labadee.

So, RCI doesn't care if you fill in the form 2-3 months before you sail? What then, exactly, is the whole point of this questionaire and making it available ahead of embarkation? Yes, RCI, I swear that I was not sick two months before the cruise.
Now that type of thought process is way too logical!
In truth, I didn't know it existed online.

I got a little impatient and called a D+ rep yesterday to see if there were any more details on the program. I took notes and I'm hoping I got it all correct. Of course, they haven't published it yet so I'm sure these details are subject to change.
There will be some complimentary Barbie things included in the general Adventure Ocean Program including Barbie Movies (sounded like they would be in AO as well running on in-stateroom TV), Barbie story times, and other Barbie-themed activites.
The $349 program will begin in January 2013. Exact ships and sail dates have not been announced but the rep said it will be most likely be fleet-wide right away during the first January sailings. Most of the details are exactly what's posted on the website so I'll just post what's not there.
The maximum number of participants on Oasis and Allure will be 50. On all other ships it will be 30. There must be a minimum of 5 per sailing participating in order to hold the fashion show. If the fashion show can't be held because there aren't 5 kids participating, 30% of the package price will be refunded.
It is expected that shortly after the new year the package will be available for purchase online via the Pre-Cruise planner. It will also be available the first 2 nights of the sailing. A cancellation fee of 50% will apply for canceling with less than 72 hours notice.
Lastly, parents are encouraged to pack a few pink, girly items such as boas, sunglasses etc. that might coordinate with what's used for the fashion show.
Again, (my disclaimer) I'm sure these things could change or I might have missed something but at least there's a few more details we can chew on.

I called a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have much information at C&A. I would like to order this for my 4 year old on our 1/27 sailing on Allure. I keep looking to see if they add it to the options that can be purchased online prior to the cruise but so far, nothing… I plan on calling again after the Holidays.
-
They are Boardwalk cabins categories B1 and B2. The farther aft the better the views of the sea and Aquatheater.
-
I will assume that we haven't got the entire run-down of this package yet or that Royal will quickly having to be tweaking it....right now with the details supplied to us by the posters on this thread....it's marketed stickily as a drunk fest pkg in my view.....but I shall wait to see what happens by the time Royal "officially" announces it.
Agree completely. Hopefully they will make some changes soon.

I am on the Allure today and it is true! $55 per person plus 15% gratuity. Both of us had to do it.
Includes: all house wine, beers (under $6.25), fountain soda, well, call or premium brands of liquor and frozen drinks.
Excludes: room service, specialty coffee, mini bar, canned soda, bottled water, and bottled juices.
If all they're offering for wine is LaTerre, I'm OUT. Let's face it, they have trouble giving the stuff away!
