  1. Also on the Silhouette 2/22 sailing .  just my wife and me.

1st time on the Solstice class ship, previously on the Summitt 4 times.  Never go back.  Silhouette was great ship, no major complaints.  Much more lively especially on Grand Foyer.  entertainment there every evening plus late show with Billy Mcguigan-  place was rocking especially the elevators where people were riding up and down watching band.

Flew in night before, arrived at port 10:45, on ship by 11;30 .  Right to Sunset Bar on 15th next to Lawn Club. Preferred the sunset bar on the Summitt.   They didn't have enough staff.  Bartenders were too busy upgrading beverage packages.  we were thirsty.  Nice lunch in ocean view/ , rooms ready by about 1/1:30. Edwin was a great steward . Rooms always clean, always around when we needed something   The Muster Drill was a bit lame as previously stated.

We were at Martini Bar for Sail away where we spent most 5-7 pm Happy Hours.  Met lots of nice people .  everyone always happy to chat about their day.  Bartenders were fantastic.  they work hard but seem to enjoy.  they do their best to try to serve people as fast as they can.  I think a little extra tipping goes a long way.

We went to every 7 pm show except for the 2nd production show.  1st was ok , 3rd was better(Life)

1st comedian ok, 2nd better.Dominic and Lorrain were OK.  McGuigan and Hard Days Night excellent.

We normally spent the pre dinner 8/830 1/2 hour at the Ensemble Lounge- (Angie Hernandez and Renaissance duet excellent).Went to MDR every night, table of 8. Food good, service great(Melchior Waiter- Michaela- assistant waiter, Alex- sommelier,Veronica- waitress), company even better.  its what we enjoy most.  meeting nice people and connecting over 9 dinners .  we went to shows together, martini bar together, Passport Bar, etc.

Pool was very crowded .  Unless you were up by 7am, you could not get 2 chairs together at pool. Very warm and sunny on deck.  Any chairs near pool go from shade to sun so.  Solairium very nice .  Good place to relax out of the sun.  went to Gym 2x.  machines were good but very warm.  At 1st, my complaint was service at pool bar.  Everyone converging and wait time was long, especially because we were waiting in sun,  But on 2nd sea day, started taking advantage of the servers walking around the pool and then never a problem  They always found you(again, extra tipping helps) for drinks,  and the beer cart was always there with beer and water  on ice.  Thank you Premium beverage package.

Islands-  ABC islands (Curacao my favorite ) were superb.  best snorkeling and beaches. Very warm.  Grand Cayman also nice.  7 mile beach.

    4 sea days was nice.

Embarkation a breeze.  much to my wife's dismay(only argument all week), self assist(we were on 6th floor mid ship, carried bags down stairs to 5th floor, off the ship in 10 minutes around 745.

Customs was a little disorganized , Terminal 29.  hard to find naughty room to get back my wifes steamer

Sister picked us up at 830 for our 12:45 flight to JFK and the snowstorm.

we cant wait until our next cruise. Europe 2020

  2. isn't going on a cruise all about making new friends or sharing moments with the family and friends who joined you.

Try to respect the rules but just ignore those who don't and just have a great dinner. I just came off the Summit 9/4 and only noticed other peoples attire while in the Martini bar before dinner. I went to my table , had a great dinner, enjoyed spending quality time with my family and being pampered by the great wait staff. I don't notice or care what the people in the next table are dressed like nor would I care if they were sitting next to me in their shorts.

I don't think how people are dressed should add or subtract to my experience nor should my appearance affect yours. why cant we all just get along?

  3. my party of 13 were also on the summit returning early from Bermuda. yes it was sad losing a day in beautiful hot Bermuda but the weather looked pretty bad for Bermuda on that day and after a few morning clouds, it was a beautiful day on the ship. A lot rockier ride with the main pool closed but much cooler thanks to the winds from Hermione.

The last sea day was cold and windier with calmer seas and we did arrive in Bayonne at 10. unfortunately we were at dinner but warched the Verrazano bridge go by as our tables were in the back of the boat next to the windows.

a big Thank you to the crew of Celebrity, especially Nino, our sommelier who gave up their off days on Friday because we needed to leave early. never a complaint and always a smile.

BTW, disembarkation was crazy at the port with everyone coming and going at the same time but Bayonne was the best experience I have ever had for Embarkation and even with the mass confusion disembarking, still a good experience.

  4. plenty of shade so dont really need an Umbrella but it was $10.00

Chairs cost $5 each but they've seen better days

Taxi cost $9 per way per person from havensight to cokie

on the return trip, My wife went from cokie to downtown and it cost $12.

i also threw in $1-$2 tip in per person depending on the driver.

there is food and beer for purchase there but it wasnt cheap.

  5. also upgrade to Premium if you like good beer.

the way the classic package works is that a beer costs $6.50, you can only get by paying the entire $6.50. Your max on beer is $6

The way the premium package works, if a beer is $14, you Pay $1. Your max is $13. Yes , ther are $14 dollar and up beers.

But the really nice thing Celebrity did was make alot the premium beers at least $6.50(Stella, Guinness,Boddingers, etc) so you're left with a much smaller selection with the Classic package

  6. early in the week, The Martini was packed but I definitely noted many unhappy (almost hostile) cruisers both from the noise level and difficulty getting a drink. At times there were 10 people holding their cards up with only 1 or 2 bartenders. They kept running out of martini glasses and the bartenders were also serving and waiting all the surrounding tables.

By Friday, there was barely a crowd but the loud music was enough to keep us away.

  7. regarding getting a great martini outside of the Martini Bar.

Last week, we wound up going to Michaels Club on the Summitt. Iwan (not from Taiwan) and Julio were more than happy to make a Martini which in my wifes opinion, were much better than what she received at the Martini Bar. Maybe they couldnt serve 6 martini's at the same time or play juggler with the bottles, but we could meet people and carry on conversations just fine.

However, rumors are flying that Michaels will turn into a VIP Lounge and be no longer house the craft beers.

  8. just off the Summitt. I havent read all the posts on this thread but I did read one which talked about the Martini bar.

our last cruise on the summitt was Dec. 2011 just before the S class upgrade. we spent every pre dinner night at the Martini bar which was previously located in where the Cellar Masters side bar is now.

It was a great spot to meet people every night.

Now the Martini bar has beed moved to a high traffic area and draws a big crowd. i guess this is what Celebrity wanted and I shouldn't complain that getting a drink there was near impossible. Maybe because of the popularity of the upgraded drink package, more people were drinking $11 martinis. now to the music. It was TOO LOUD. The selection of music was fine and actually a very good variety. it was very difficult to talk and you wound up shouting so that the person next to you could hear you. so now on top of loud music you have people yelling to each other so that they could hear. The bartenders couldnt hear what you ordered. You really couldn't engage new people in conversations. and i heard this complaint from many other people.

  9. Michael's is not a "VIP" lounge. It is for everyone's use.

In regards to the craft beers in Michaels, I have read in other posts that some are available(Dogfish 90 at the Sunset Bar) in other bars but I have also read that they are not. It's probably a ship by ship and cruise by cruise hit or miss. I'm hoping they are available at other bars because Michael's doesn't open to 7 pm on most days on the Summitt which i am departing on 2/22. Hope to meet other beer snobs to enjoy some great craft beers with. Rogue Dead Guy is one of my favorites

  10. I've done many times what SNJCruiser just mentioned regarding bringing beer offshore with a collapsable cooler. You can get the Grolsch swingtops which work great as well as bottled waters. I just give the room steward a tip at beginning of cruise and ask him to keep the cooler full of ice. Michaels and their premium beer has been mentioned many times in this thread. I've very much looking forward to drinking their microbrews. are any of these special beers available in any of other bars and what are the hours of Michaels.

  11. I'm sailing on the Summit on 12/10 and was wondering if the Microbrews (Flying Dog, Brooklyn Lager, Magic Hat, etc) are sold in Michaels or some other bar on the ship? Trying to plot my course to get the most value out of the Premium alcohol package. I couldnt find them back in 1/2010 on the Summit when Celebrity offered a beer package whereas all beers were included for $28 per day. Having bottles of Grolsch (swing top) and unopened cars of Boddinger and putting them in a soft cooler(packed with ice thanks to my steward) made for a very enjoyable and cheap day at the beach.
