  1. I had never done a review before but this ship had been bashed so much I thought I would speak up for it. The review has been posted. I didn't include the Medivac because it had nothing to do with the ship. Those forward port side were able to watch the proceedings from our balconies. I was impressed that even with backtracking around Cuba to meet the Coast Guard helicopter we still made our Cartegena stop on time.

I wonder if experience from the week before made them announce that the canal day would be anytime dining. We didn't try a different venue because the buses were very late. We went to the buffet and the overflow was directed to BBQ and Steamers area. It was the only time we ate dinner in the buffet.

Overall we had a good time.

  2. I have a very picky eater (he’s high functioning autistic) and he’s very much looking forward to his fifth cruise in Dec.

The first time we took him on a month long holiday and cruise to an unfamiliar country, we took a suitcase of his familiar foods as back up. These were great for the land portion of the trip but we found that once we were on the ship he had a vast array of choices and we were usually able to cobble together something that vaguely resembled a balanced meal.

He’s now 11 and whilst he still acts instinctively with significant aversion to many foods, he is slowly extending his repertoire. Cruising has helped with that as the buffets and menus offer him a vast array of attractive choices that he can see and smell before selecting. He also knows he doesn’t have to eat something if he tries it and doesn’t like it - this has made him more adventurous since there is no penalty.

Right now we are working on extending his dinner time options and it’s stressful and there is a lot of wastage but it will eventually pay off - especially if we treat it as a big of an adventure and not as a battleground where lines are drawn. And you’ll find the same with yours - take a bunch of familiar snacks, encourage him/her to chose from the buffet, and don’t sweat the small stuff if they spend a week eating French fries and bananas washed down with lemonade. Both of you will have a much better holiday if you can be relaxed about the food.

I never personally had to deal with this situation but this is easily the best reply. I might add also to treat the food as part of the overall adventure. Try - if they don't like it they don't have to eat it. No pressure, vacation.

  3. I alway keep dollar store ponchos in my suitcase no mater where I go - one for each member of the family. Was great to have on a rainy day in NOLA the day before our Dream cruise. Use and toss.

Thanks for reminding me. I always keep these in a pocket - much easier to carry than an umbrella. At Summerfest this year there was a possibility of rain I unpacked the ones I had bought for my upcoming Panama Canal cruise. When it started to drizzle I pulled one out, my grandson looked disappointed. I asked him would he like one? Then turned to my daughter and aske her. "You have three? " Chalk one up for Grammy power. Now off to the Dollar Store to replace them.

  4. I've only used mine 3 times- Alaska, Hawaii & San Juan.

The people living out west really have an advantage to use it.:)

Here in Florida, not so much. :(

I used my annual pass at Everglades one year. The pass is the best excuse to "See the USA" i have traveled to all 50 states and collected passport stamps from serveral parks. Here is a page for the parks in Florida: https://www.nps.gov/state/fl/index.htm. Happy travels!

  5. i bought myself an outlef extender, like for christmas lights. it is perfect for cruises, and no surge

i knit and my friend made me a knitting kit with a small set of dmc scissors to cut the yarn. i'm scared to bring it on and get it confiscated.

I always take my knitting/crocheting. I fly with childrens blunt scissors and never a problem. Years ago I started an afghan on a 7-day cruise where we had sea days. I have a 10-day cruise this time so I'm taking it again. It is sitting on 36 inch nylon circular knitting needles and will be packed in the big suitcase.

I like the idea of taking a sewing machine. If I was not flying I would consider a sewing machine.

  6. I missed the showing here in the US, it came on at 4 am and was not repeating. First I got mad and then I googled it. The original and the post panamax shows are available on utube. It was very interesting. I won't feel guilty about not reading the previously suggested big book. I'll probably rewatch shortly before I cruise.

I have a 3 in 1 North Face thermoball/raincoat - are you guys in the mindset that this will be enough & that I don't need a sweatshirt?

(I have a North Face fleece too...)

the 3 in 1 coat will be fine. That's what I took to Alaska. It's summer you only need one or the other of the coats on any given day. The only day you will need the whole system is when you go through the glaciers when it will be cold.

  8. As was said by others, you can get a manicure before you go. The other girls in my group did just that. BUT, everytime I go I plan to change colors, just for the fun of it and never get around to it. My last trip I finally did, every other day I changed polish colors to match my outfits. Made me feel good. Besides it was probably the only time I would have enough time to change colors and be fashionable.

  9. We went in September. Because we are a little older and one of us had mobility problems we picked Xunantunich. The 2hour drive through the country was amazing and we learned a lot about the country, language, etc. My companion was driven up the last part so she was able to see the ruins without much discomfort.

  10. I've gotten great bargains at Goodwill and other thrift stores. The place I shop at the most is TJ Maxx. You can get great prices on designer clothing and accessories there. I don't have a cruise wardrobe per se...however, I usually do buy new things for my vacations be they cruises or land vacays. I just mix them end with things I already have. Most of the time I'll just shop in my own closets and put things together in a new way. I just love fashion!:D

I wear whatever summer clothes I have which this year meant I was short one pair of capris. Shopped 2 major malls in this area when my daughter said she was hungry. After lunch she said lets stop at the Goodwill before the next mall, couldn't hurt. Well, I found my crop pants, brand new, and two other summer pants all for the price of probably the one pair of capris I couldn't find. Didn't notice any smell though. The two pair of pants aren't going on the cruise, I'm wearing them now before summer goes away.

I have the same question, headed to Mexico. Advised of things to shop for are hot sauces and vanilla, which I assume are in bottles? Do I cross this off my list?

  13. Traveling week of 9/18/2015. I am looking for a hotel in Orlando with transportation to the Airport but is also near stores/convenience/gas/liquor to get sodas/wine/water. Thanks for any help in this matter. We are using the Carnival transfers to the port.
