Never mind I found the September 2017 discussion on the subject. Sorry if I have been redundant.

  2. I really hate to jump into this “discussion” but all of the windsurf cruises I have been on (3) have used the sails at some point to push the ship. On the TA we moved at least a couple of days almost exclusively on the sails. Its easy to know when - the sails are deployed and you can go up to the bridge and see for yourself if the ship is using the sails and/or the engines. Personally I could not tell the difference except for the sails being deployed. It was a nice ride either way.

  3. Folks staying airbnb in Lisbon - we did it last year at the end of the Surf TA and while the apartment was great and very functional I made a mistake and did not determine that an elevator was available. It was exactly 65 stairs from the street to the apartment. With the suitcases it was a horrible experience trying to get them up the steps with bad knees and such it ended badly. So in case you haven’t checked on elevators please do it now. Then again maybe I am the only one who wouldn’t check. We loved Lisbon and Portugal and are doing the Pride TA with you all and will see you there. We are heading to Albuferia the day we arrive and staying in an AirBnb on the beach.

  4. Sandydlc. I was on wind surf TA in April and used internet to stay in touch with work. Was not very fast and somedays it was frustrating. Keep the things you need to short messages and you should be fine. Try to exchange big files and it will work but take awhile. Recommend unlimited package so you are not worrying about time etc.

  5. Did the TA on Wind Surf in April and on Zuiderdam the year before and I can honestly say there was not much difference. They both have movement. Wife and I did just fine on both cruises. Of course depends on weather and in both cases it was pretty good.

  6. The problem in December was a mechanical problem with this ship it came in to SXM a day early and them delayed departure on our cruise from Friday to Sunday. Everyone who wanted to had ample chance to visit St. Barts on the day we were supposed to be there. WS gave everyone high speed ferry tickets and OBC for the trouble. Unless they are having continued mechanical trouble don't believe the two events are related.

  7. Have sailed the Windsurf before but can not remember if there is a shower in the pool area. Can someone tell me if there is a shower on the deck in the pool area? Thanks

  8. TBMRT,

We took the Classic Caribbean the same time last year and it was our first time trying a single carry-on each. With the laundry package it worked out just fine. I even had extra sets of workout clothes. On the way back we had connection in CLT and we went through immigration, collected our bags and had to go back through security. For people who had checked bags they collected their bags and rechecked them just outside customs.

We are on the 12/9 cruise with you this year -- see you there.

  9. We now take a small scoop for the ice bucket. We have drinks on our veranda. The tongs are such a nusiance. I get two for $1 at the dollar store. A clear luggage tag for key card. Dental repair kit. Tablecloth clips so our veranda dinners don't get turned over by wind. This trip pencils and sharpeners for puzzles.

  10. legalslave,

If vibration is going to cause you problems I hate to say you will probably be disappointed. I am sitting in 7132 on the Nieuw Amsterdam right now doing the transatlantic to Barcelona and I have to tell you that this ship vibrates significantly!! It is a definite generator issue because it vibrated pretty much the same way when we were sitting in port getting ready to leave.

This vibration has not caused us any issues its kind of like being on one of those coin operated beds except you don't have to keep feeding it coins.

Even with that this is a great room and we are really enjoying the trip. They really spiffed up the ship in drydock -- they have new TV's - the one in the suite is now on the wall and its a 46" flat panel -- they did remove the DVD players and now have movies available on the TV (smart tv) only problem right now is the TV has 4 news channels and two sports channels and about 20 movies to chose from.

There is new carpet everywhere and the LIDO is a real mess the carpet is creating hundreds of fuzz balls when you walk across it - somebody is not happy about that carpet choice.

Just so you know it just doesn't vibrate in the aft section if vibrates everywhere.

  11. You will need to connect to phone and sync via bluetooth. Not sure how long it will work with out phone connecting to internet. Be careful enabling data on your phone as you could generate a very large data roaming bill. Recommend what KK said and bring your own laptop.

  12. - but then we just booked an INSIDE for a Transatlantic/Western Med in April! The difference in price will go a long way toward paying for our excursions. It's always a balance! Most important is being on the ship.

Crystalspin -- thanks for the response I noticed in the roll call that we are on the same Transatlantic (DW and I are doing the 14 day portion). I look forward to seeing you at the Meet and Greet, I can use your help convincing DW that it is a great trip to take.

    Thanks

  13. Hi everyone this is just about my second post on CC although I read it often especially when I am getting ready to take a cruise or plan for one.

I am very interested in doing the South America and/or South America & Antarctica cruise that is currently being done by HAL on the Zaandam and I have a few questions if you all will indulge me. I have used the CC search feature and read almost all the post about the subject already but want a fresh view.

If I do the cruise in an Ocean View stateroom are there enough public spaces outside to get a good viewing of events?

If you were taking this trip would you do it from a stateroom with a balcony or would the stateroom not matter so much?

If you could only extend your visit one of the cities (Buenos Aires or Santiago) at the beginning or end of the cruise which would it be?

How far in advance should I be serious about booking it for a late 2016 or early 2017 passage?

    All opinions are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
