Good for your “friend” - having a good time when 110 individuals were evacuated for having been in a hot zone, sailing in an area where the cruise line itself refuses to sail in the future and has canceled cruises due to “growing concerns about the Coronavirus in Asia” yet continue to sail currently despite the risks, supporting a company that puts profits over the health and safety of its crew and guests while ignoring valid concerns from its guests about possibly having infected persons on board due to NCL’s health screenings not being able to catch everyone who has the virus.  Glad to hear your “friend” is able to put all that aside and have a good time.  What is the point of posting this message?

Bit Rude.....I wonder what your point is.  Mine was to say its not all doom and gloom ! I'm sure more people have got other bugs and colds/flu etc .....  put it into perspective .....

My husband and I are on the Jade leaving Hong Kong on 2/17 and are having the same problem. They won’t let us change the cruise (we didn’t ask for a refund, just a credit). We were able to cancel our non-refundable hotel room and airline. It’s just NCL that is being unreasonable.  Although I’m not that worried about catching the virus, I am worried about everything else that comes along with it. Almost every attraction in HK is closed, there are threats of medical strikes, flights are being canceled or changed, and the other ports (Vietnam, Thailand, etc.) are having issues too. It wouldn’t be worth going even if I knew I wouldn’t catch the virus.

I understand I signed a contract when booking my cruise; however, companies can do the responsible thing and allow changes/credits just like my airline and hotel did on non-refundable rates. Best of luck Capeviewer. If I hear from NCL, I’ll certainly let you know!

I have a friend doing this cruise at the moment.  They are having a fantastic time.  Photos looks great.

  3. This really depends on what type of cruise you want.  I was a P&O girl but now converted to Marella.  P&O is more formal and staff not as friendly.  Food is better on P&O but ok on Marella (as long as you are not a vegan).  I like the entertainment better on Marella.  Booking on board excursions is a waster of money on Marella,  Destinations are all very much the same.  Cabins are similar.   Marella is All inclusive.  Value for money I'd go with Marella, if you want something a little more formal I'd god with P&O.

I am on a Marella Discovery cruise that ends in Montego Bay. we dock at 7.00am so experience tells me that we will disembark at around 10.00am latest.  Our return flight is at 6.30pm.

I'm a bit worried about our luggage as I have visions of having to haul it around the town till the pick up for the airport. Has anyone any experience of this please? If so what did you do?

    Thanks

  5. looking forward to the 'noise' on Discovery ships.I'm doing a Fred Olsen cruise this year and it's like a morgue or God's waiting room. So anything that has some noise other than old people asleep in public lounges, is great for me.

Me too..... Bring on the music

    and dancing boys

  6. Common people - The 20-30s party crowd, go on a holiday for just sun, sand and booze. Want cheap flights, cheap rooms and free drinks. The Benidorm/Ibiza crowd.

Not us sophisticated people who want to cruise to different cultures/countries and want to experience the sights and history of places.

What a naughty old sea dog you are....

  7. Can’t let it spoil our holiday, we’ve worked too hard for that. Leaves a sour taste but can always go back to P&O next year at least our loyalty is valued more there with on board discounts and free upgrades.

I've had this happen more times on P&O than Thomson

  8. I support your point of view entirely, however, like you we have sailed with different cruise lines when they have a drinks package promotion running and in my experience , it’s only the Brits that go mad on the drinks. Never saw it on Celebrity or P&O. Maybe AI is a backward step by TUI/Marella/Thomson? What defeats me though is how the hell the younger people afford it. We save all year for the two week cruise and for us anyway, it’s a luxury. Btw, we have chosen Discovery 2 in August for the itinerary.

They work hard for their money and know how to enjoy themselves.

  9. I went on Marella Dream a couple of years ago as a "Solo" traveller. We had a great host who arranged a few get-togethers. I think there was one on the first day. Not 100% sure. Made some great new friends and we are all meeting up again on another Marella ship later in the year.

Hope you have a great holiday.

  10. IMO the best single cabins on Dream are the ones forward on decks 4 and 5. I had 5008 and it was quiet and spacious. 5012 and 5018 were even bigger. next cruise I have booked 5011 on the starboard side.

I think I was in 4008, I loved it when I had got used the a smaller cabin. I think it was one of the smaller ones, but it was ok for me. Loved the sea splashing against the port-hole.
