Hi ClevelandKid;
You’ve hit on my one and only criticism of Viking - 100% single supplement. I am a solo traveler, and to cruise with Viking I have to “buy” the entire stateroom, in other words pay as if I were two people. I do not want to share a cabin with someone I’m not related to, so I have had to find other companies to whom to give my business.
I have heard that there are occasional specials with Viking, but I’ve yet to find one.Good luck to you and your friend!

Terrific, detailed review. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences!

Dear islandthyme,
I have also sailed with both Holland and Viking (river and ocean). Like you, I am also “...young for my age, adventurous, liberal, and irreverent.” And a solo traveler.😎
You will feel very comfortable on VO.

Hi Mike and Betsy,
Thank you for the warning! Being from Massachusetts, I’m not a fan of high heat and humidity at all. But I am looking forward to seeing the falls from both sides.
Curious...were mosquitoes a problem?

Hello fellow segment #2 travelers!
I am doing the Viking-sponsored four night excursion to Iguazu Falls.
My flight Boston-JFK-Rio arrives January 21 at about 10:35am.
Is there anyone else on this forum who is also on this pre-cruise extension?

Maybe it’s a BYOB cruise line.

i recently received an offer for the Viking Visa credit card. No annual fee, two $100 shipboard credits upon meeting purchase requirements, and 3 points for every Viking purchase/booking. Reward points can be used on Viking for any onboard spending, including prem. beverages, spa, shorex, gratuities, merchandise.
For me, this is competitive with the 3% “discount” with e-check.

Thanks all for the first-hand experiences and encouragement. Sounds like a worthwhile expense in order to “lighten the load!”

What cruise are you taking? We are on Miami to South America.
Hello vnb2003,
I am on the Buenos Aires to Santiago leg on Viking Sun, January 25, 2019.
My pre-cruise extension starts in Rio de Janeiro.
Are you continuing all the way to Chile, or getting off in Buenos Aires?

I noticed on MVJ an option for using “luggage forward” service to get your bag(s) to the ship without lugging it/them through the airport.
I am considering this because I’m doing a 4-day pre-cruise extension, then joining the ship for my South America cruise. I can get away with a smallish carryon for the early part, but will need more, i.e., warmer layers and sturdier shoes for the actual cruise.
Any first-hand experience would be much appreciated.

Are Credit cards accepted most places?

OK, I just spent most of the past TWO days reading this ENTIRE post, from beginning to end -- almost a year's worth of information. I have made so many notes in my Word file that it will take me another two days to read and digest it all! We are planning a Med trip (France, Italy) next year and this forum is invaluable. Thank you all so much for sharing, for asking questions, and for being so willing to be a community. :)
I will be back!! ;)

We are Cindy and Bob from Concord, MA, doing the Bucharest to Vienna itinerary.
We will be joining the cruise June 21 in Bucharest after the three-day pre-cruise extension.
Looking forward to seeing who else might be on this cruise. When we booked a couple of days ago, the cruise was almost fully sold.
