  1. When are you going? Next week? Ppl probably already made their plans.

I doubt Ricardo will be there unless he has ppl scheduled. When he picked us up, he had documentation he filled out allowing him inside the port to pick us up.

Yeah, for Thursday. I definitely got a late start this year on my excursions! You are correct about Ricardo -- he wouldn't be there unless he had a trip booked. Bummer...

  2. Just a suggestion of what we did when we went to Secret Falls with Liberty Tours Jamaica- join in on your roll call thread on cruise critic and ask your fellow cruisers on that thread who would like to join you. Feel free to copy and paste the YouTube video I posted above to show them what the falls look like and what to expect on your tour. We had a group of 8 from our roll call. But Ricardo can handle more and this will bring your cost down. Worked for us!!

I did post (actually twice!) but no takers. I even went to another ship's roll call that I found out will be docked that same day in hopes of getting their interest. No luck. I emailed Ricardo to see if Liberty would still be at the cruise port on our Falmouth day trying to pick up passengers. Haven't heard back yet but I hope they do because I'm sure there would be people procrastinating (like me!) who'd be interested.

I did see your YouTube video and that's what got me hooked. It looks like a lot of fun (despite the long ride to get there)!

  3. Can you share the price per person? How many people do you have going? What day are you traveling? I'm looking to do this trip but would like to get a sense of price point/number in group. I don't necessarily want to do a private tour and there's just two of us at the moment.

If there's anyone out there who will be traveling to Jamaica on 2/13/14 and looking for an excursion, let me know as perhaps we can coordinate a group. Liberty Tours is available!

  4. Thank you for all of your replies we have decided to go with liberty and are booked hurray ,.We are doing secret falls/tubing/shopping/Scotchies looks like a full day of fun ..price is good too.

  5. Can anyone recommend reputable jewelry stores in Grand Cayman? I'm looking for gemstones (not necessarily diamond) and/or gold but creative/artistic/unique designs -- not run-of-the-mill or predictable looking.

Also, is there time to shop and spend time on Seven Mile Beach on a typical cruise day?

  6. I have just checked the new Captains Club program. We have only sailed on Celebrity once but are sailing again in two weeks and then again in November. I see mention of complimentary gelato as a perk now. Do we just go to the gelato stand and order it and then receive a credit to our OBC negating the carge?

    Or how does it work?

    Thanks!

Can you clarify where you saw mention of the gelato perk? I just checked the Celebrity website for the benefits of the Select Level (my level) but I didn't see any mention of the gelato. What do you have to do to receive this coupon?

    Thanks!

  7. I do fear that with more and more people opting for the drink packages, the bar staff will not be able to accommodate everyone's requests in a timely manner. (especially hearing how people will just order a drink to try it and if they don't like it they will order another...and another...) This takes time and while that is the fun of having the drink package it is a reality that service can and will slow down. I'm envisioning for instance, the Martini bar before dinnertime at 3 people deep yelling "I've been waiting here 20 minutes!" I know from previous experience when I placed an order at poolside, it took quite some time to have the drink arrive, particularly on an at-sea day. When I requested fresh squeezed juice or smoothie in the afternoon, I was told it was not available, presumably because it would have taken too much time to go to another bar/kitchen for the necessary fruit while other people impatiently waited for their drinks. Not sure what the solution is, except I guess I must be more patient but one can't help being frustrated that by Celebrity providing this very tempting package, it has not had the foresight to anticipate and resolve the potential problems it may cause.

  8. Although I've just read that Travel & Leisure magazine has named Seven Mile Beach one of the best beaches on Earth, particularly for families, I will be traveling with my husband and would like to steer clear of families if at all possible. Can anyone recommend a beach that would attract more adults than kids (not meant to be read as looking for a nude/topless beach, just one where the atmosphere is a little more quiet and calm!)

  9. Here's what you get in the Classic Alcohol Package:

You Get This in the Classic Non-Alcohol Package

In addition to enjoying your favorite Coca Cola can and fountain sodas selections such as Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Fanta Orange and Coke Zero, you may also enjoy fresh squeezed and bottled juices, Premium Coffees and Teas and Non-Premium Bottled Water.

    PLUS:

Upgrade your cruise experience and pay one price to enjoy all of the benefits of our Classic Non-Alcoholic package as well as all Beers up to $5 per serving, and spirits, cocktails, frozen drinks, and wines by the glass up to $8 per serving.

Most glasses of champagne (sparkling wine) is above $8 a glass, so you will have to pay the full price of that beverage separately. See, if you purchased the Premium Alcohol Package, any drink that's above $12, all you pay is the difference in price (for example, a glass of wine that costs $18, you'd only pay the additional $6, but with the Classic Package, you'd have to pay the full $18).

I pre-purchased the Classic Non-Alcohol Package and am hoping that the fresh squeezed juices will be available all the time at any bar. Seemed there was an issue with that on a previous cruise. Has anyone had experience with that, particularly on the Silhouette? Also, does anyone know if VitaminWater is available?

  10. Is there anyone out there who sailed on either of these ships in the early seventies? I've been reading up on them, and found some great info, but sadly, not many pictures. I have no pics of either of these ships. My mom must have lost them when she moved. I'd really love to see some real pics. I took the Queen Anna MAria out of Baltimore around 1970 (spring). We sailed into a huge gale on the way back. It was the only time I got sick on a ship! I took the de Grasse from San Juan or some other southern port, and sailed to Caracas among other ports in the summer of 1973. I'd love to piece this all together before I get any older and lose even more of my memories. Thanks!

    Dear msmathteacher:

I know you posted this over 5 years ago but I just stumbled on this board as I was reminiscing about my first cruise at the age of 9 on the SS De Grasse and had to respond. I have home movies which are just too wild! I can't recall what time of year but it was 1972 and probably either summer or some school vacation time. I believe we did start out in San Juan and I think we went to Caracas, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Grenada, can't remember others. I remember visiting the volcano museum in Martinique and seeing all these artifacts that were covered in lava. I remember my sister getting nauseous going up a winding mountain. I remember my dad buying a conch shell in Grenada and teaching me to blow in it. It was an awesome trip.

Wow, hard to believe it's been almost 40 years!! If anyone else traveled

at this time I'd love to hear from you. I remember meeting a lovely family (from NJ?) with a daughter who was around 13 who taught me and my sister to play a French card game called Milles Bornes.
