Four couples are going on a cruise in 2020. One couple has booked a suite, the others have balcony cabins. My TA told me we can’t book a table for eight because the couple in the suite will have their own dining room. Our only recourse is to go to the maitre d’ when we arrive and see if he can accommodate us. We don’t want to do My Time dining. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thank you, everyone, for your replies about cell service. As long as the wifi on the ship is good, I can FaceTime instead of calling.

We have cellular service through AT&T. I was told I need to purchase a cruise plan if I'm on a river cruise. I need to be in touch with those at home, but don't want to spend a fortune to do so. Are there any suggestions? Thank you.

We are sailing Tranquility II in Fall '17. We sailed Expression last Spring '16.
Many wore jeans, capris and very casual attire. My husband wore jeans. Since you are traveling during Aug (hot weather), I do not know why cargo shorts would not be correct. The many thing is to wear comfortable shoes and have a rain jacket that you can carry with you.
Can you please tell me how you are transferring to Zurich? We will go to Zurich from Basel to meet with DD and SIL for auto touring thru the Alps. Trying to decide best way to transfer to Zurich.
Our time in Zurich and Lake Como is part of our cruise, so our transfer is included. We'll go to Lucerne and Mt. Pilates, spend one night in Zurich, then take a train to Lake Como for three nights.

Hello! We are on the August 26 Tranquility II cruise from Amsterdam to Basel with the Zurich and Lake Como extension. Information from our travel agent states that most tours ask for no shorts or jeans. While I wear capris, my DH prefers cargo shorts. I know some cathedrals have a stricter dress code. Could anyone please advise?
Thank you.

We are cruising Amsterdam to Basel August 26 and have not yet been notified of our Amsterdam hotel which we booked through Avalon. Where are other summer cruisers staying?

Thank you for your review, Cheryl. We'll be taking that cruise in August of next year. I especially liked hearing about the tours.

We just sailed with Avalon Expression Prague to Budapest on Danube River.
First river cruise. Avalon was very nice and I will sail with them again. During the sailing we had to leave ship due to flooding on Danube for two nights.
Avalon took very GOOD care of passengers during the two days and nights.
We received a refund for the two nights we did not stay on ship. Avalon paid for all meals and 4star hotels while onshore plus offered free excursions. Avalon treated everyone Great :)
Thanks for the information. Several in our group have cruised with Avalon, and loved it.

We just booked the August 26, 2017 Amsterdam-Basel followed by a land trip to Zurich and Lake Como. We've heard only good things about Avalon, so we're looking forward to it.

We booked at the Hotel Ciutat Vella for our pre-cruise stay in October. Breakfast and free wifi for $135. It's a small hotel near Las Ramblas and has good reviews.

Thank you so much for this information. Had I not seen it, we would have been at the wrong terminal for pick up.

Thank you all for your help. I was hoping to avoid a stop at a Tesco on our way to Southampton.

We will be staying at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge before our cruise. We'd like to purchase water and wine before traveling to the ship. Are there any places within walking distance where we can shop?

If you are going with Alla, take snacks. As I have a very hungry boy I was prepared! I brought cereal bars and got muffins from cafe bacio,(they give you a paper bag for takeaways). The packed lunch was awful, a warm ham/cheese crepe, which sounds good but wasn't.A carton of apple juice, cooking apple and choc bar with strange filling. We ate this on the bus. Lunch in restaurant was OK but we met at 07.30 and ate at 13.15 ,so people were starving ( I took bananas). Food was salad, soup(lovely) stew potatoes, pastry and tea.water provided. Any other drinks you pay, husband had beer, and really cheap.
Thank you for that information. We are going with Alla, so I guess we'll take some food with us. I'll pass this on to others in our group.

Thank you for your review. We'll be doing the same itinerary August 16. It was nice to hear that you docked close to Copenhagen. In June, the Eclipse was docked at Oceankaj. How were the lunches on the SPB tour? DH is picky, and I'm trying to figure out how many protein bars to pack for him. 😛

We sailed on the Horizon in 1994. When I called Celebrity in 2011, there was no record of us. I had a group picture from the dining room on formal night taken by the ship's photographer. It had the name of the ship at the bottom. They accepted it. Good luck!

I thought RCCL and X basically had the same smoking policies? No smoking on balconies and only a few designated areas?

We were on the Oasis in February. No smoking on balconies, but there were smoking sections on the pool deck and the casino. The smoke odor in the casino was everywhere. Celebrity is now my cruise line of choice.

Hi
That was exactly my situation last October and I did this

A mistake I made was going over to the belfry at around 11.30, by which time the queue was too long to do it (our taxi back was set for 1 o'clock) so if you want to do that wander over to Grote Markt when you arrive and see when it opens ( around 9 ?,) then you can do your canal tour afterwards. All the best, Tony
Thank you, Tony and everyone for your advice. We'll do the walking tour, the canal tour, and then try some waffles and chocolate. I have a feeling we're going to hate to leave Bruges!

We're arriving in Bruges on a Sunday morning. Our taxi will have us in the city by 8:00. We have only 5 1/2 hours there, so we want to see and do as much as possible. I realize that not much will be open, but I'm hoping to get suggestions for things to do until we can catch a canal boat at 10:00.
Thank you for any help you can give.

I'm trying to decide if we should book a guided walking tour of Bruges. While I know there are DIY walks, I'm thinking a local would give a lot more information. Any suggestions?

Skagway Excursions Opinions Please
in Alaska

We’re going to be in Skagway in June. We rode the train the last time we were there and loved it. Got off at Fraser and bussed to the Yukon sign before going back to town. This time we’re goiing into the Yukon with Dyea Dave. There are tours that combine the train and the Yukon, and my kids are doing one of them.
