  1. For many years I have visited many ports in the Mediterranean where I could just disembark quite freely and explore the town or city wherever the ship docked.

I have booked 2 cruises in the Mediterranean this year, but I do not want to find out once on board that the only way of seeing places is to buy a shore excursion whilst on board. I have never been averse to purchasing a shore excursion which involved a coach trip to get to a visit to a difficult popular place e.g.

Montserrat in the mountains near Barcelona.

Can anyone shed some light on this query please?

  2. I'd be happy to Lee, More so than any other cruise, this one has some great tips to pass forward. I've started to compile a review and will include the tips to share, as it was really helpful that others shared their ideas with me as well.

    Very happy to do so

Yes, luckily we didn't run into the bad weather as you did on the Jan 21st sailing

Thanks for all the kind words, right place, right time I guess. Was so lucky to be up close to them, although they gave me a strange look since I was noticeably taller than the rest of my waddle

I look forward to your review and tips. Lee

  3. I would like to add my thanks too for posting these photos. We are on the Eclipse in February 2019 so this is so illuminating. It would be good if you could add to this post about the voyage as a whole, what excursions you took in places you visited etc.

There was a previous post about issues on the Infinity because of engine problems and storms so they missed ports etc. I am guessing it was an earlier voyage than the one you are on.

    Best wishes, Lee

  4. Hi Oliver,

Many thanks for your further information. By the way, should you ever think about going to New Zealand,(that's if you have never been yet), we sandwiched a 10 day driving trip in the South Island between cruises from Honolulu to Sydney and then re-boarding the Solstice for visiting the various ports in New Zealand. The sites we saw were breathtaking wherever we drove to. It was an amazing experience so I would be only too happy to give you some tips. Best wishes, Lee

  5. Thank you all for your kind words!

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed joining us on our trip to Iceland.

In two weeks from now we'll start our next cruise from Venice.

    Can't wait...

Thank you for an amazing piece of work in respect of the photos and the descriptions. We booked this cruise for the same time in 2017 a couple of months ago and I have just been researching Iceland and came across your blog. It is saving me a lot of work!

I even went on line with Europcar but it says at the ports that cars are not available at this time - I would like to ask you how far in advance did you book for the May sailing and whether you were able to book for port collection at that time?

With your script I think we will be able to navigate ok too. Just need that amazing sunshine you had. Best wishes. Lee

  6. We just sailed on the Eclipse -9 -16 May and were "docked" - so getting off was very easy. A new floating pier has been installed and it is my understanding that RC and Celebrity have made some investment into it so will get priority over other lines who will have to tender. There were two other ships there when we were docked and then tender rides were taking 10 minutes.
