  1. Does the quantum of the seas use the Lahaina Harbor?? I do understand it's a tender port.

My question is actually about budget car rental. We have one booked for pick up at 11 halawai dr. From the harbor it's 14 minutes from the cruise Kahului port its 46 minutes

If you have booked flights and transfers with NCL,  you will be wasting the transfer to Anchorage,  as it will leave in the morning.        IF you take the train,   Seward to Anchorage.   on your own,   it will have to be a 1am flight or later.        You may want to rethink your flight booking ideas.    Otherwise,   Park Connection could be a transit option,  via bus,   for a slightly earlier departure.    But Anc  needs at least a 2 hour window at the airport prior to flight time.

I'm just making a couple comments,    the Jeep rentals are a lot more money than a car,  and don't offer you anything additional.  you will not be allowed any off road.  Of course people enjoy driving them.      And as long as fishing and not "catching"  is ok with you,   May isn't the best time for catching.    🙂

We could skip the NCL transfer altogether as I have a flight leaving 2 days after we get off the ship. Spend a day in each Seward and Anchorage probably. The fishing comments has spouse very worried though

It's sounds like you did great if those are the things you want to do. It's a nice mix of activities. Have you heard of Murray's Guide? I found it a great buy when we rented a car to drive in Skagway. Search for Murray's Guide to the South Klondike Highway. For some reason, I can't post the link here. It's $5.95 for the PDF.

Have you planned what you'll do in Juneau the rest of the time? Depending on when your helicopter and dog sled excursion is, you should have time to do something else, even if it's just walking through the downtown area and eating some good food. Or you could take the tram to the top of Mt. Roberts and hike around there. It's something you don't have to book in advance.

Found the Murray guide, there is one for Skagway and the south klondike looking forward to checking these out! Thanks for sharing. Yes in Juneau we will have lots of time only 3 hours for the helicopter/dog sled tour we will explore for sure not big hikers though.

  5. We have a Alaska cruise booked for may 2021

    So far we are investigating

    Ketchikan- fishing with Baranof

Juneau  - helicopter with dog sledding  with northstar or coastal

    Skagway - jeep rental

Seward - boat tour to kenai Fjords national park with major marine

Probably the train from Seward to Anchorage to get our flight home. NCL is doing to flights and transfers.

    How did I do ?

    Is there something I'm missing?

  6. We booked a may 10 2021 a year ago, up until this week (entering stage 3) I was trying not to even think about it 😥

Now here I am back on the boards excitedly looking at excursions. Not going to give any deposits yet, but the excitement is building 😍

Please elaborate....what did you see?  how long was tour?  how many in party?  cost?  We're going in May and still looking for best tour.

6 in 1 Limon highlights and canal cruise. Odyssey tours.
Tour #1 Wildlife boat tour, banana plantation, cocoa bean small plantations and a bit of coffee, beach, scenery/ shopping
This tour starts with a visit to the Tortuguero National Park, this is one of the most biologically diverse places in Costa Rica: in essence, a zoo in the wild. You will enjoy a one hour flat-form boat cruise as we make our way through the middle of the jungle observing sloths, monkeys, birds, iguanas, crocodiles, orchids and much more... all in their lush natural habitat. Next, we make a stop to sample delicious fresh fruits of the season and then we continue to a banana plantation from the side of the road where I will explain the growing process and exportation of this amazing fruit. The beautiful sandy beach of Playa Bonita invites us next for a swim and/or to enjoy lunch at either of two fine restaurants. Our tour continues with photo stops at picturesque locations and concludes with a stop for some shopping, including some great bargains on genuine Costa Rican coffee. This is a seven-hour tour. There was 5 of us at $75 each we paid for our own lunch at a restaurant at the top of a hill overlooking our cruise ship, was breathtaking.
  8. Last week we took a $15 cab ride to the old city then met with  Cesar for our Segway tour. What an experience! I'll never walk through towns again! We covered at least 5 miles, the breeze was beautiful so comfortable. Cesar and his assistant watched traffic and pedestrian traffic for us and stopping it when necessary. His assistant also stayed with the segways and our belongings as we stopped and toured buildings

Be smart. We were in Barcelona for the day on the Pacific Princess during what we thought was a fairly quiet time. We took the hop on hop off bus on our own and went all the way to the top of the line to see a Cathedral. Protesters apparently were filling the streets while we were riding the bus.  We got off, and found it impossible to get back on a bus.. the city, buses, taxis closed down section by section.  The bus service had totally ended, there were no taxis and we were able to walk all the way, several miles back to the ship thank goodness.  Many detours walking streets to avoid protesters..  if you even consider issues use good judgement and only stay close to the ship or use a ship tour.  I thought we were lucky to be able to get back, those with any mobility concerns might not have..

Yes for sure thanks and very glad your safe! I'll have to read some world news to find out what this is about.

On a full transit - ocean to ocean - there will not be any stop with an opportunity for an excursion.  There are occasional cruises that have a day stop in Colon or Fuerte Amador (Panama City) the day before or after the transit, so if your cruise does that, you would have the opportunity to take that excursion.  NCL Joy full transits do not offer this.  EM

Any ideas on why the Joy just changed to land in Colon instead of Santa marta next week February 2nd sailing.

I forgot to mention — the Q has a bar with it’s own unique Cocktail on Tap.  We didn’t visit this bar on the crawl as it is only open after about 9pm for bar service and live music (not sure if they allow bar service early during the primary dinner service).  Anyhow, we did try the Cocktail on Tap here, and it was the only one we liked.  We ended up ordering a second.  It was the Smokey Peach Margarita.

That's awesome! I'm going to use your route for the crawl on our cruise. Drink suggestion were they done by bartenders or cruisers? I'm thinking we will let the bartenders to do their thing! Cant find your signature but read you report. Thanks for sharing

We board today 🙂. I plan on doing a short review of the venues in the crawl, and will post the schedule as a sample (it would need to be adjusted for other itineraries).

    Have a fantastic cruise!

That would be great thank you we will be on Joy in February. And want to do the pub crawl as well.

Also if you remember could you let me know which deck we exit off of for ports, and if there is a meeting place near there for groups going on non-ship tours.

If you get to any non Haven bars, and think to photograph the menu, that would be awesome.  Mostly interested in the bar specific cocktails, not the spirits and wine part of the menu.  The two bars I’m having the most trouble finding are the Skyline, and A-List, although I’ll very happily peruse any you happen to get, since I’ll know it is current.  I want to include the “special to this bar” drinks on the pub crawl schedule I’m doing 🙂

When are you cruising? Before February 2nd? This sounds like something I would love! Please share!
