  1. I guess you did not mind paying the $8 for the same on NCL. They did not make you feel like an inconsequential crumb. Your spiel makes me laugh.

It was the change in contract after final payment, not the 8 dollars that bothered the customer you're mocking.Your lack of reading comprehension makes me laugh; you inconsequential little crumb.

  2. Do I have the "freedom" to not pay my taxes? I have no problem with my tax money being used to buy food for a family that needs it to feed their kids. I do have an issue with my tax money being used to buy someone else their cigarettes. And then I get the added benefit of having to listen to someone else on this thread talk about the increased cost of medical care.

Actually smokers and obese people cost the health care and retirement systems much less because they die at much younger ages.

  3. Sea pass card will be used to track points only. They will advance for a fee on it which you know. Guest services will cash travelers checks, and a personal check.

I just had someone tell me the slots had no 5% fee. Is this not the case?

  4. I could ask the same of you. You wrote them, they responded. They didn't give you what you want. If you don't intend to pursue the matter legally why continue with complaining about it?

So you don't have an answer then. Got it.

I'm sorry, but as an attorney when someone quotes a federal statue I simply assume they intend to take legal action. I was providing you advice for free that I would normally charge to provide.

Listen, I hate the change. I have a cruise in just a few weeks so I am caught with this change. This was just badly executed. The proper way to do this was to implement this on all future bookings. I feel like Charlie on the MTA looking for my nickel. It is not hyperbolic to worry that if I were to travel with RC again, they could add a fee for the MDR, or to use the flowrider / rock wall / kids club, after I am paid in full. Again, adding such a fee is their prerogative, just like choosing to sail with RC or another line is mine, but doing it on completed bookings that were told there would be no fee for the service makes me lose trust in the management and will possibly cause me to spend my vacation $ elsewhere.

Making the change on future bookings, or at least only on people that have not paid in full would be far more fair. It’s smart from a customer service point of view since I would not be upset if the rule was in place when I decided to book. It’s smart from a management point of view, since it lets them gauge the impact it has on bookings. This single decision has soured my view RC, for the above stated reasons. Let’s just hope they do not start charging an exit fare while I am on the cruise and demand more $ to get off. Sing with me… “Did he ever return? No he never returned. And his fate is still unlearn'd”

That being said, the contract I signed gives me limited (but not no) rights. There are state law that RC either did not consider, or more likely, assume will be utilized with such infrequency that it does not matter. On my cruise, I will like order RS a few times. When I am back, I may make a strongly worded request that they refund my fees. my guess is they will figure it's worth $25 to not deal with me. we will see.

  5. I think you will have a hard time meeting the amount in controversy requirement for a federal claim, and you will then be subject to the waivers you made in the contract for arbitration and choice of venue. You will spend more $ filing (that's before you pay an attorney fee) than the claim is worth. As stated above, the best bet is a local claim, based on a stricter state statute that can not be waved, nor does the state allow the claim to be moved.

I haven't said anything word about heading to court. Yet 2/3 of these replies are telling me what a waste of time and money it would be.

  6. The room service was free when RCI was advertising that on their website with the exception of the late night charge. However they have chosen to change that, which they are within their rights to do. They have updated their website advising of the new charge and when it will be effective.

They have chosen to stand behind their change and have stated they will not be offering compensation. Maybe you'll have better luck complaining on the ship and getting them to offer to refund the charges. But at this point there's nothing more you can do unless you want to take legal action.

I still don't understand why you're posting on this thread. You've made it clear you don't care about this change and you're just on here telling people to suck it up. Why?

  7. Would you have been satisfied with anything they wrote that didn't give you either capitulation to your request or substantial compensation? I read the letter as someone with nothing to gain or lose I didn't see any rudeness whatsoever, not even a hint, especially in the context of the fact that you came at them with a false accusation of a felony. They understood your concern; they made clear that they understood it, even granting that the roll out was abrupt; they valued you as a person expressing it despite your throwing of an legal accusation at them initially; they outlined what they consider a number of good things about their offerings; they clearly explanation why they aren't going to summarily change things back. I cannot imagine a better reply, given that they weren't going to hand over operational control of their corporation and its decision-making to you.

No, that's not true, but they can do this.

That's really where we are now. I think enough people have received replies from the cruise line that the next step for those who really think that the cruise line is in the wrong is to do something legally.

And it is important to note that the probability of being offered guest recovery (such as a $50 OBC) that might be offered could be negatively affected by such rudeness.

Let's be clear: I bet everyone in this thread, me most especially, would prefer it if this was actually false advertising, and therefore the FTC and state attorneys general would do something about it. Unfortunately, it isn't.

If you can't Google here is one of the top results. Rci's behavior fits perfectly.

    False Advertising

"Any advertising or promotion that misrepresents the nature, characteristics, qualities or geographic origin of goods, services or commercial activities" (Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C.A. § 1125(a)).

    Proof Requirement

To establish that an advertisement is false, a plaintiff must prove five things: (1) a false statement of fact has been made about the advertiser's own or another person's goods, services, or commercial activity; (2) the statement either deceives or has the potential to deceive a substantial portion of its targeted audience; (3) the deception is also likely to affect the purchasing decisions of its audience; (4) the advertising involves goods or services in interstate commerce; and (5) the deception has either resulted in or is likely to result in injury to the plaintiff. The most heavily weighed factor is the advertisement's potential to injure a customer. The injury is usually attributed to money the consumer lost through a purchase that would not have been made had the advertisement not been misleading. False statements can be defined in two ways: those that are false on their face and those that are implicitly false.

That's really where we are now. At what point does repeatedly accusing a company of a felony go too far? I think enough people have received replies from the cruise line that the next step for those who really think that the cruise line is in the wrong is to do something legally.

And it is important to note that the probability of being offered guest recovery (such as a $50 OBC) that might be offered could be negatively affected by such rudeness.

Ummm.. it isn't a false accusation. It IS false advertising in every sense. Check it out if you don't believe me. Nolo.com has a pretty good writeup on it, and it isn't a felony lol.

  9. My original post was in no way insulting. You chose to respond rudely. The simple fact is they are not breaking any laws. I agree that it could have been implemented better but it is what it is.

Yes they are breaking laws. If you'll look up the laws and regs regarding false advertising (as you told me to do in a condescending fashion), this whole room service debacle ticks every box.

And telling me my priorities are wrong certainly is rude as hell.

  10. I'm well aware of what false advertising is. Presuming you live within the US you might want to review the laws regarding it. Of course you're welcome to file a lawsuit but I imagine it's going to be a lot more expensive than the new room service charge.

Why are you even posting here...it is clearly false advertising, do you deny that? Why are you so insistent on insulting those that think this is unfair and brown nosing rci?

  11. $8 gratuity included... if the menu is as legit as they imply, for food cooked for you, this is an improvement.

I'd rather pay $8 for a great product than $4 for a lousy one. (we'd usually tip about $4)

They shouldn't have had a lousy product before, but they did. What's done is done.

It might be fine. But it isn't what I signed up for. I have no problem if they want to change it for new bookings, but for already paid customers it is false advertising plain and simple.

  12. Their response is well written and professional. They know what their contract states and they are well within their rights. I understand people being upset but if no longer having free room service is what's going to ruin your vacation perhaps it's time to rethink priorities. With the exception of those who are disabled. I 100% think they should not be charged the fee. Has anyone who is disabled emailed the special needs department about this? Sorry but I haven't read through the entire thread so I apologize if this has already been discussed.

Do you understand what false advertising is? You can't sign away the right not to be scammed by a business regardless of what their contract states. I paid for a cruise with room service included.

  13. WOW - nearly 600 posts about a $7.95 charge for something outside base room service menu items.

It's almost hilarious to see many hundreds of posts discussing the good idea and value of spending hundreds of dollars on alcoholic drink packages...and at the same site...a number of others all knotted up about this topic.

The difference is they told me how much the drink package is and I willingly paid it. In the case of the room service; they are taking away something I paid for. It was included in the ticket price when I bought my cruise and it was advertised as complementary when I purchased my ticket. In fact- it still is! Go look at the Royal Caribbean dining site. This is blatant false advertising. Would you enjoy paying for something and not getting it? How can you not see the problem with this?

  14. Simple answer. Don't spend your $$$ with RCCL.

If you already have then it is too late to change your cruise. This policy goes into place 2 days before my cruise. I paid for a cruise with room service included. Now they have canceled a service that I bought and was advertised as available when I fully paid for my ticket. I can't cancel my cruise at this point as the flights are planned and there are no refunds anyway.

How can you not see the problem with this?

  15. Somewhere, in the cruise contract that passengers agreed to upon booking, is some sort of disclaimer mentioning that the cruise line can change things like the price of room service at any time. It probably even says "without notice," although they have given some notice. The passenger is charged with knowing what the contract says.

Legally, RCL is under no obligation to continue to offer free room service because it was in the brochure at the time of booking.

It can be argued that it's bad customer service and, in the name of customer service, they should make an exception for every passenger who has already paid in full (they won't), but really the only recourse for the passenger is to either pay the fee, skip room service, or book another cruise line. There are a number of lines that still include room service in the cruise fare (and there are some that may even include the tips)

Just because it is in a contract doesn't make it legal.

  16. Room service is available onboard any time of the day or night - simply order from the room service menu located in your stateroom/suite (late night service charge of $3.95* applies). *Servicecharge subject to change without notice. Subject to change is the big one.

LATE NIGHT service charge subject to change. Not paid for service subject to cancelation.

  17. Norwegian didn't get rid of their eight dollar charge and I'm pretty sure Royal Caribbean is it going to get rid of theirs either. It won't change my future plans with Royal and I'm sure it won't change about 95% of other peoples plans with Royal. I'm not that lazy where I can't take an elevator or the stairs to Kathy promenade or the wind jammer and get my free food there to bring back to the room if needed. I've been on 17 cruises and every time I see a tray in the hallway usually has 50% or more of the food left on it. Also this is capitalism at its best people I love it when I hear people complain about companies trying to make more money. If people feel so strongly about these price increases maybe they should write to their senators and congressmen to pass laws for compassionate capitalism. This message was written with the microphone so forgive the spelling errors. If you don't want to pay the eight dollars don't order room service. Do I think there should be exceptions to people with disabilities and handicap, absolutely.

So you can't understand why people who already paid for something and are not getting what they paid for are pissed. What a jerk.

  18. If you want to make a difference go post on facebook and tweet at the RC sites, maybe they'll see the light. Laura Ward put it nicely.

"With our final payment date already past, the news of charging for room service is disheartening. In fact, it's unfair and sneaky. We cannot change our cruise, why can RC change the amenities/perks that we paid for? If you need to do this for future cruises, fine. Begin with cruises in which loyal customers haven't paid in full, as to give them a choice of whether to cancel or not. Those of us with upcoming cruises have no choice, yet we've lost an amenity."

  19. You are not forced to order room service, but since you asked, you ordered and paid for this http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=52478441#post52478441

Now all you have to do is drink 1 extra and you have covered the rs charge

I am confused as to why you would dig into my history to find this post? I shouldn't have to drink more to make up the value of a service I already paid for with my ticket.

This is crazy, this is the first time I am trying RC after sailing quite a bit on 2 other lines, and I am starting to regret trying something new. I just dropped 518 dollars on a drink package and now this? If I wasn't already paid up I would be on the fence about canceling the whole thing. I probably use room service like twice a cruise, but it felt good to know I could if I wanted to, or if I got sick etc...Like really you're changing it up 2 days before my cruise, you've got to be kidding me.

They didn't just change the price of something they stopped offering a service (free room service) that I paid for when I bought my ticket.

  20. You can change credit cards at check-in at least for on board purchases, not sure if that would work for the entire fare.

I would guess once the billing goes through and is posted it's pretty hard to move the charge.

Can you make a payment on the old card using the new card?

Yeah I probably won't mess with success given all the problems people had with their rebooking after the drink package debacle. I could move the $$$ but balance transfers don't count for the min spend unfortunately. Thanks for the thoughts though!
