  1. We have to give a shout out to RCCL!!!!

About two months ago we had a cruise booked. Shortly before the cruise we had a fire at one of our business locations. I called RCCL to cancel our cruise so we could stay home and deal with the situation fully expecting to lose the whole cruise fare.

I explained our situation to the RCCL rep. She told us she would refer this to remediation department. We received a call a bit later and she told us they had fully refunded us!!!!! Thanks RCCL!!!! 😀😀

Another really nice surprise for us came about a week ago!! We have an upcoming b2b on Explorer of the Seas cruising the Pacific Northwest. We had a JS booked. We received a call from RCCL and the lady told us that we could upgrade to the Owners suite for BOTH legs in the same suite for.......$500.00!!!!!! Of course we jumped on it!!!!!! We are so excited!!!!

We are celebrating my DWs birthday and our anniversary. What a really nice way to do this!!!!!

Thanks RCCL for exceeding our expectations!!!!!!!!

  2. Your husband will love you...and the FOV!!! We have had the pleasure two times. Once while cruising the Norwegian Fjords!!!!! They have separated (by sliding doors) sleeping and living areas. Living area has two sofas and a second TV. HUGE wrap around balcony!!!!! You definitely scored big time!!!!!:)

  3. My DW and I are not BIG gamblers, but we have enjoyed playing the slots on all of our past cruises. But on our recent Grandeur of the Seas cruise the casino was so TIGHT that is was just plain NOT fun!!!

Is it just us, or have the RCCL casinos been decreasing payouts steadily over the last few years?

We consider the casino and the money we allot there as part of our entertainment, but it isn't even entertaining when all you do is lose, lose, lose, and then when you do finally hit a bonus round the payout is so pathetic it just makes you MAD!!!!!

I was playing on a machine betting one dollar and went into a "bonus" round. The machine paid out a GRAND TOTAL of $4.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RCCL, we hope you are reading this!!!!!! We will cease to "play" in your casinos if things don't get better.

  4. Thank you all for your recommendations!!! That fish sandwich at the Spicy Dicey sounds really good!!!! We will probably do the Frog and Onion at Kings Wharf too. The Lobster Pot was on my list too. Our mouths are watering!!!!!!:D:D:D

  5. The Hog Penny is Bermuda's oldest pub and we have eaten there although it was some time ago The Hog Penny came to my attention when Rachael Ray ate dinner there on her $40/day show on the Food Network. She had Chicken Marsala curry which was $18.95

We've also had lunch at the Lobster Pot which was recommended by our guide in 2013 The sign at the entrance said 2-3 lb lobster whole boiled $79.00 We didn't have lobster. Bermuda fish chowder is a dark soup so I had the fish chowder $7.00. Bob had,the Lobster Bisque $7.50. Then he had a lobster seafood slider $13.75 and I had Peach Melba $7.50.

I have also seen, but not eaten at

Flanagan's Irish Pub (Bermuda's only Irish Pub)

Lemon Tree Cafe - sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts with a lemon flavor.

Paradiso Cafe - It is said that this serves the most irresistible pastries in town

    Fresco's in Chancery Lane

    Tuscany Restaurant

Port of Call Restaurant or Bistro 2 which shares the same place

The Spot - a local place which attracts off-duty police, construction workers etc.

Thank you for the suggestions!! :)

  6. yes, you should see a line up of taxi drivers available. most would love to give you a tour.....just negotiate a price before you get in. the taxi drivers in Bermuda are very friendly. :)

We were able to get a tour with Colin Jennings!! It is for the last day in port however. Now we need to decide where to take the ferry from Kings Wharf for browsing around and lunch the day before. Any suggestions?

takemewithyou, we noticed that in your signature, we have the same cruise booked this fall!!! :) Small world!!!! Perhaps we will run in to you at the meet and greet?

  7. Good Morning! I have emailed three different drivers that are recommended on this thread for a private tour for my DW and myself. Since we will be in Bermuda Aug. 3rd and 4th, if they are already booked, can we just walk off the ship and hire one then for a private tour?

  8. Oh, I certainly concur that during an emergency the volume is necessary and would be appreciated. I'm not suggesting that they turn it down. All I'm saying is that on the muster drill I will use small foam earplugs to protect my ears and make the experience more tolerable!!!:) I will still be more than able to hear everything!!

And by the way, I LOVE the sound of the ships horn!!! I always try to capture it in a video to let my Grandson hear it!!! But on our last cruise, even the voice over the loud speakers was over the top LOUD!!!! I wasn't the only one with their fingers in their ears!!!

  9. On our last cruise and several others the lifeboat drill was SOOOOOO loud I had to plug my ears with my fingers!! Not to mention the horn blowing the warning!!! Next time we are taking ear plugs. RCCL must think we are hard of hearing!!! Probably will be after all that loud noise!!!

Earplugs!!! Don't leave home without them!!!

  10. We too have been on cruises where the VCL was underutilized in years past and that's what made it special. But on our last two cruises it was often difficult to find a seat!!! People love that space and view without having to pay for it!!!!! It has been the BEST spot on the ship for our beloved sail aways!

I'll probably get flamed for this, but the Voyager class ships are not our favorite even though we have been on them for several cruises and will be on another in January. We think the Royal Promenade is an ugly, closed in space with no views of the ocean what so ever!!! Nothing much of interest there for us. Looks more like the inside of a crowded prison!!!! Just our humble opinion.

We LOVE the Radiance, Vision and Sovereign class of ships. We have the Jewel booked for Alaska in May.

    RCCL. Bring back the views!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. I just read a short review of a westbound TA on Oasis. Since they added all those new cabins and took away the Viking Crown Lounge that definitely takes away the appeal for us to sail on that ship!!!!

We cruise for the views of the ocean. Period. We LOVE the sea and prefer to enjoy it from a vantage point like the Viking Lounge where you don't have to wrap up in a blanket or stand in the blazing sun!!!

Now, if you want that view the cruise line is forcing you to pay for a suite!!!

It is sad to us that they are moving this direction.

  12. We do NOT understand why cruise lines are doing away with the public spaces where you can enjoy the views of the ocean!!!

We took a cruise to Alaska on the Coral Princess. To us, it was a VERY poor design. Almost no views of the scenery unless you stood outside or were on your balcony!!! We had to cover up with blankets to enjoy the scenery!!! We would NEVER book another cruise on that class of ship again for that very reason.

Now RCCL is slowly doing away with the very thing we have loved most about their ships...the Viking Crown Lounge with it's magnificent views of the scenery and ocean!!! We are VERY disappointed with the direction RCCL and X are going.

Don't they realize that the reason most people go on cruises is to enjoy the ocean views from a comfortable place where you aren't freezing or in the blazing sun!!!??? If we want to buy nicky nack junk we can go to Wal Mart!!!!!! We LOVE the water.

It seems that the large cruise lines are trying to turn the attention of cruisers inward in a move to try to sell more stuff. Usually junk. We don't like it AT ALL!!!

  13. Since this operation is almost over, I would like to jump in here and tell all that contributed to this thread, thanks!!! I have quietly followed this thread on an almost daily basis. My four year old grandson calls the CC the "Sad Ship".

We have watched the righting of the ship and now the refloating with great interest and with respect for those who lost their lives. May God rest their souls!!

Again, thank you all for your wonderful links, photos and on going updates. It has been a fascinating process and your input has greatly enhanced this. What a feat of engineering this has been!!
