  1. Please, if anyone has space on a small group tour for June 18 from LeHavre for D-Day, or from Cherbourg for D-Day.June 19, Please email us. 2 pax. Currently, I have rec'd. a response from "American Footsteps Tour" w, Valerie Valtier. It would be 7 pax van for 650Euro , June 18 from LeHavre. Pick up/drop at ship. 8:30am, return to be decided. She requires 20% deposit (Non refundable, and Euro cash at tour. Since we are only 2 pax, I really would prefer to join an existing group, rather than put a non refundable deposit down. Anyone?

  2. If anyone on June 13 HA Zuiderdam cruise has space for 2 on a D-Day full day tour, Thurs, June 18, 2018, or from Cherbourg, June 19. please email us. Looks like many tour operators want payment in advance, which is risky. We would prefer to pay cash at time of tour.

  3. Please plan to join other Cruise Critic members at our "Meet & Mingle" gathering on Holland America's Zuiderdam, June 13, 2018 cruise from Copenhagen. It's a fun time to meet those with whom you may be sharing transfers, shore excursions, etc. Cookies, coffee, tea & water;)

  4. Looking for suggestions or to join a group for Zuiderdam , Day 7, Jan 11 Confused of when we are allowed off ship for tour. Do we take a boat tour from Gatun through canals then meet ship at Colon? Or tour out of Colon? Anyone aware of the Gatun Visitor center being closed? Any response appreciated. Thank you

  5. FWIW I'd advocate private. With 3-5 people for a car or 7-8 for a van and the private costs of the private vehicle by the person things are so much cheaper.

I hired two vans from RIL. They were at the dock and we were off the ship 7am. The tour bus hadn't even assembled yet, only vehicles were the private tours. We were at Pisa and dropped curbside about as close as you could ( great for my 80+ dad). We got there before any of the tour bus ;)

We then were off to Florence, had a long stop overlooking the city, dropped off at the Academia and David. Picked up right infront after finishing where we saw the "line" and the cruise tours all waiting to get in. Dropped of 3 other times curbside at what was our fancy. I read and recalled in Europe at many places the bus can't park or drop near the sites.. and thus have to hike a bit into things.

Yes private means ship won't wait, we left to head back to the ship probably way earlier than the last bus. If there was going to be traffic, we'd have been ahead of the ship "bus"... of course Murphy could have visited and resulted in a flat tire or vehicle problems. In our case we were back almost 80' before sailing and had showered and were sipping drinks watching the last bus come back.

Most private live on reputation.. they have a very vested interest in getting you to the ship.

Only reason to do the Ship tour is lack of local private and our laziness. Traveling in a bus with 40 other folks with the pace driven by the slowest person is not my idea of a good plan...:D

Please tell me the name of company you used for private tour out of Livorno to Florence. Thank you

  6. Are there taxis waiting at the port the morning of disembarkation? We are getting off around 7am. If not can anyone recommend a private transfer service?

what ship are you on? We are disembarking the Nieuw Amsterdam, June 9. We also will have an early departure because our flt is at 10:55am. How many are you? Are you interested in sharing a transfer. I am going to research it and will get back to you. smlanita@aol.com
