  1. Thank you all for the advice. Im hoping that it will really help him enjoy the ship without getting so fatigued.

I booked the room for him right next to the rear elevator stack on the 10th floor. That will also minimize walking to the mdr, so that for dinners we can hopefully leave the scooter in the room, and it mean that the boardwalk, park, and promenade are only an elevator away with no long hallways...

As for the scooter i got the medium sized one which they assured was very small. Ill also mention that they were able to able to apply a credit i had with them for the rental because i had cancelled a cruise for medical reasons last year.

  2. Hello All,

I rented a mobility scooter for my dad, from Care Vacations- one of the two companys recommended by RCI. They were easy and helpful to deal with so far, and the scooter is supposed to be waiting in his room when we board next week.

He walks with a cane but long distances are tough for him, which is why I ordered the scooter.

Just wondering if there are any tricks and tips to the best ways to navigate through the elevators, and what are the best places for him to cruise around on it without bottlenecks etc.

Are there any areas where a mobility scooter shouldnt go? Is there an ettiquette that I dont know about in terms of getting seating at windjammer, where to park them when your eating etc?

  3. Go for it. I think you qualify with the spirit and intent of the law, if not the exact letter of the law. Thanks for your service.

    Thanks merchybum.

Also, my thoughts an prayers go out the families to those 30 soldiers that went down in the chinook over the weekend... We here are all so lucky to be out of the kill zone and enjoying our family life. And any of you guys still in we have so much respect for too!

I think that why a lot of us vets like cruises- it is such a safe environment with so much good people, and the best mess halls...

  4. Question- if i ETS out of the army on September 3rd third year, and I am going on a cruise September 4th, can I wear my Class As at the formal night?

Im probably goign to do it anyway because Im cruising with my 81 year old army dad and it makes him proud, but wondering if i could justify it as travel home from being disharged from army (not retiring, only did one 8 year contract). The army reserves been good to me but it time to move on....

The Army green service uniforms are intended for wear during most duty, non-field, or utility occasions, and for travel and off-duty purposes. While both the class A and B uniforms are authorized for year-round wear, the appropriate uniform is worn based on weather conditions, duties, and the formality of the occasion. When a specific service uniform is not prescribed for formations or other occasions when uniformity in appearance is not required, soldiers may wear the class A or any of the variations of the class B uniform, with the accessories authorized for these uniforms.

  6. I have extra advice for jewelery shopping. Take their price on the tag and offer them one quarter of what it says, thats probably a decent price. if you someohow end up paying more than half of the price tag it is paying too much.:). So all the 40% off coupons can go out the window...

to avoid looking like favoritism i will list all the jewelry stores and salespeople names i have bought from in st maarten starting with the one ive bought most from:

Rays jewelery (Seppan). My wifes wedding rings and various earings etc.

Caribbean Gems (Manu). Necklaces, and my dad bought lots of stuff for my mom there

Joes jewelery (Adesh). Small ring there bracelet and watch there

Venetian (Ben). My wedding band x2 (lost the first one) and small topaz earings/necklace.

I had good experience with all of them
