Not as crowded as you think. And, as commonly discussed on the Alaska board, where this question is asked daily, if you are going get a Neptune, get an aft Neptune. That satisfies your desire to stay on your balcony, and get a wider angle view. If you stay one side or the other, you miss what is going on on the other side. Alaska is big picture scenery. There is no one magic spot to be to see the sights.
Unfortunately my wife gets seasick so an aft cabin is out of the question. Since we are traveling north, I was thinking that the land side (starboard) of the ship would be the most scenic.

Doesn't matter a bit. There are great views on all sides. You aren't locked in your cabin...you will be out and all over the ship.
We are planning on Neptune suite so we want to enjoy our balcony for the scenic parts of the cruise. Public areas tend to be crowded especially for the best views. I made the mistake of being on the wrong side of the ship while cruising past the Napali coast in Hawaii and had to fight for elbow room to see the best views while my balcony had a view of the open ocean……😝

We are planning a land sea adventure on Holland America to Alaska and we’re wondering which side of the ship has the best views on a cruise first cruise. We will be starting in Vancouver and ending in Fairbanks. (This is the D5C cruise)
We are too early to book excursions so we are up for suggestions on which ones to consider when offered (not too adventurous but beauty and food is a must).

JMO -- but I would do the land portion first and then you have the cruise to rest up on before traveling home.
Awesomeness...... The simplicity of a cruise to rest and watch the glaciers pass by, sounds relaxing..... Great idea
Now I just have to wait for the 2021 Land/Sea cruises to post, hopefully with perks.....

Unlike the customary HAL options starting in Fairbanks Princess does not have an overnight in Anchorage as they offer "Direct to the Wilderness" train service between Denali/Talkeetna and Whittier. I have a feeling this may become the same for HAL starting with the 2021 season
If this is the case, we may have to fly to Anchorage for a several day visit then fly to Fairbanks to start the Cruisetour.... Santa Clause House must remain on the Itinerary (Happy wife, Happy life)

Waiting for the 2021 land sea offerings, nothing as of yet..... Plenty of cruise only in 2021

The distances in Alaska are quite far. It is about 8 hours by bus from Denali to Seward. If you want to go to Anchorage before a land tour, and then go to Fairbanks, I think you would have to go to Anchorage on your own and then fly to Fairbanks to join a land tour.
I was looking at the Vancouver to Fairbanks cruises (Which seem to be less expensive) and then at the end of the cruise fly from Fairbanks to Anchorage.. One option
I checked the train ride is very expensive and looooong

We are planning an Alaska land sea cruise in 2021... I want to start in Anchorage and end in Vancouver with stops in Denali and Fairbanks (My wife really wants to see the Santa Clause House).... We have friends that live close to Anchorage and would like to visit them for a few days before the cruise... I notice that the 2021 land sea Alaska cruises are not listed yet.... Any suggestions would be appreciated.... We want to get freebies and discounted rate if possible...
Thank You

I just changed my balcony from mid-ship navigation deck to aft balcony navigation deck. I have heard that the closer you are to the front or back of the ship the more motion you get. Is it worth it for the view and having a cabin that is not located under the Lido Market? Is the motion a big difference from Mid ship to Aft?

I think it's brilliant marketing. Anyone can get a table for two, but make it special. Simply add a massage, a $25 dollar bottle of wine, roomservice twice which was already included in the fare, one $50 reservation for pinnacle grill, lend them luxurious waffle terry bathrobes for a week and take a picture. Then charge $600 per couple and some will feel they're missing out not having luxurious waffle terry bathrobes.
I was thinking the same thing..... 🤪
I was able to get a table for 2 from my TA, now I can afford a dozen roses 🌹 lol

I saw a picture of a few beverage package offerings in the Grand dutch cafe on the Nieuw Statendam. The price was $17.95 pp/pd, which comes out to just over $250 for my wife and I. We drink lots of coffee (the dining room coffee tends to be weak) and usually have a soda with dinner, and like to drink bottled water throughout the day. Is it cost effective to pay for this package (we are not alcohol consumers). Also I am unsure if the coffee option is for all coffee bars, more info would be great....... Thank You

We are currently on Nieuw Statendam and enjoying Club Orange. While the menu is the same, there is an additional item for dinner - two nights ago it was a 12oz veal chop. Quite tasty. We also enjoy watching the chef prepare our dinner which is served hot. While the chairs may not fit everyone’s fancy, we are not spending a lot of time except for dinner.
Can you get CO for $35 pp pd on Nieuw Statendam, we are booked for Mar 2020?

Thank You..... The last time we cruised on HAL was in 2005 on the Oosterdam (still a new ship back then) and I remember trying to get a table for a group of 10 was a challenge, but doable...

If you are doing fixed dining, then you can request a table for 2 on your booking.
Can you get a confirmed table 8 months out from your cruise with the fixed dining option??

Just a question about getting a table in the MDR for just 2, is it rude not to want to sit with others and what is the best way to reserve a table for 2 in the MDR?? Is it worth paying for the $600 romantic package for the table guarantee and the extra perks??
Alaska cruise best views from which side of the ship??
in Holland America Line

We did Hawaii on NCL aboard the Pride of America. Our cabin was on the starboard side of the ship. The Napaili cruise started on the Hanalei bay side of Kauai to the end of the Napali coast line. This made the views from the Port side the best because they cruised by slowly so the passengers could enjoy the views which were beautiful. They then turned around and went the other direction but at full speed which was not as enjoyable. During the slow cruise portion, everyone was on the port side of the ship which I’m sure made the ship list to that side.
We have booked the port side already, we will keep it for now unless there is a better suggestion for the northbound sailing.
We are doing the Niue Amsterdam in 2023. The Aft Neptune suite looks very nice, but my wife has motion sickness, so that is not an option.
