  1. Hello everyone. We are booked on the Ovation scheduled to leave Sydney on 11/16/2020. If Royal cancels the cruise, any guess to how soon or late they will do so? Our airline tickets on American Airlines were cancelled by the Airline and we received our refund. We are trying to not cancel our cruise because we would like to have the 125% FCC to apply towards cruises in 2021. If the cruise does happen, we will go ahead and do so about a week in advance. If anyone has any insight, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not likely that someone was upgraded for free.  The Royal Up program probably earned Royal a few hundred dollars more revenue, and someone was extremely happy to enjoy a 1BR ATS...win/win!

Thanks for your review.  I've been very tempted to try Star Class but am afraid that I could never sail in anything less after doing it once. 😀

That was our problem. A few years ago, we were booked in a JS on the Oasis. A week before the cruise, an agent called me and offered us an upgrade to a Crown Loft for $500 total. They didn't have to ask me twice. We can't go back to a normal cabin anymore. We have been in Crown Loft or Owner's Suites ever since. Would love to try to 2BR ATS if our bid is accepted. If not, we will be fine in the Crown Loft. Royal knew what they were doing when they gave us that $500 offer. Suite life for life!  We love spending our kids inheritance!

Hi np! I bid the max which was 600/1200 per room/2 adults.  My thought process was that covered our adult bev pkgs, our children’s refreshment  pkgs, and our Bogo!  Win/win!

i promise you.... you will love it!  Go for it!!!

Well I just raised my offer. I won't go the Max because that is $1,400 pp ($2,800) total. The more I read, the more excited I get. The only other disadvantage to the Mediterranean schedule is that there are 5 port days in a row. We will be spending a lot of time off of the ship, so we will not be able to enjoy the suite as much as possible. First world problems!  LOL  🙂

  4. Chops is our favorite. There are so many good things on the menu. If I could only choose two, I would go with Chops and 150. I found Giovanni's to just be OK. Better than an Olive Garden, but not as good as a mom and pop Italian plan back home. Also, we are getting ready to sail the Oasis in May. With three port stops in Italy, I don't think a lot of people will want to have Italian food on the ship   🙂

You may be surprised to learn we've loved all 3 Oasis class ships so far (and rebooked again on Oasis in 2018)...and yet we're likely in the same "generation". Love those ships, and Symphony and then Oasis 5 will also be on the radar.

The beauty of these ships is that the port stops themselves become almost secondary to the ship itself, since there are so many great/fun things to do onboard (even in port if one wishes to ship disembarking).

Wondering if Oasis 5 will get the "Apex of the Seas" name (recently trademarked)...speculation only of course...

They should honor the Cruise Critic community and name it the Speculation of the Seas

  6. It is always good to make the reservations and it is no big deal if you miss the show. The only way around it is to stay in a suite, then you can walk right in and sit in the preferred area for suite owners. This applies to all shows except the comedy club.  You'll really enjoy the shows on the Oasis class ships, they all were very good in my opinion.

No, the port(left) side balconies took more damage. The starboard deck 7 balcony was crushed, but the part of the crane that hit the upper deck by the wave riders appears to came down and hit the port side balconies as it fell.

In the last picture above you can see the tips of the balconies are cut off.

I didn't realize the Port side took on so much damage, for some reason, I thought the Starboard side took the brunt of it. I am on the 5/12 trip and have been carefully watching what is going on. From my understanding, my muster station is in the Aquatheater, so I will get a good look at things right away.

    Thank you.

They certainly aren't wasting any time. They've already cut off the port side balconies on Decks 7, 8 and 9, and the starboard side balcony on Deck 7, and they are busy on the edge of Deck 15.

Did you mean Starboard 7, 8, and 9? I always thought that the Port side was the left side of the boat as you are looking forward. Sorry if I am incorrect about that.

That destroyed balcony is the one for the rock climbing wall. All the Starboard side passenger balconies look intact. The port side balconies, as suspected, are missing some railings.

Looks like the painters will be busy on that starboard side. Lots of scraping from when it tipped. I'm so glad it got to Cadiz OK.

Not sure if its significant but I just got an e-mail from RC offering an upgrade for my 5th of May cruise on Oasis

What was the offer? We are on the May 12 trip and are staying in a Crown Loft suite. My in laws are currently in a Junior Suite and put a bid in on a Crown Loft. We are hoping that they can get up there on level 17 with us. Thanks in advance.

I’m thinking that if the odds were that high Royal would not be selling cabins on that sailing.  Currently cabins are available for all cruises starting May 5th.  While something could happen and another couple sailings could be cancelled I think the odds are pretty low.

That is true, for now. As I said earlier... I hope that I am wrong. Just coming up with some contingency plans if needed. We would definitely prefer being on the ship. My guess is if we do sail, it will be without an aquatheater show.

    Why do you think 80%?

Just a guesstimate....  based off of:

Time to get to Cadiz? The trip is about 4,200 miles... at top speed, the ship would take 7 days to get there. At a slower speed, it would take 8 to 12 days to get there. Then I am guessing it will take a month in the dry dock, so that would move its availability to late May.  I hope I'm wrong!

Yes, it's  wait and see time. We are booked on the May 12 sailing and I figure we won't know "for sure" until the end of April, beginning of May. I'm sure of one thing: RC is doing EVERTHING possible to get us cruisers on board safely. This is costing them soooo much money!!!

We are on the May 12 trip as well. I think there is an 80% chance that we are cancelled. We are looking at options to fly / train around Italy and then grab a flight back to Barcelona in time for our flight home. We're just going to turn our lemons into lemonade.

We are in the same boat, err situation.

we are err were to board the June 2 sailing.

Since that is 2 months out, I would hope you will be OK for that... unless the damage to the underside is REALLY bad. I saw somewhere that Royal makes $8,000,000 per sailing. No way they want to lose that much money. They will have people working 24/7 once they get it into the dry dock.

This is such disappointing news for so many involved.

I hope those injured are ok.

We are supposed to sail mid May from Barcelona.

Anyone have an opinion on if I should be making other plans? Thank You

We are booked on the May 12 sailing. Since we have flights to BCN and an apartment rented for 3 days before the cruise, we are still planning to go. If the cruise gets cancelled, we will take the refunded money and just book flights and hotels to see Florence, Rome and Naples. We would then fly back to BCN to get back to the US. It will be disappointing to miss the cruise, but we plan to make lemonade out of lemons.
