Do you ever get out of Texas? ;)
I have traveled all over the world but my first (out of 6) cruise was a reposition from Galveston to Barcelona. It was about 70% Texans and was my favorite. My second favorite was a reposition from Vancouver to Ft. Lauderdale which was about 70% Californians. My favorite land tour was to Russia. Love Texans, love Californians, love Russians. Have no idea what my point is, just responding to your kind response.:p

I prefer being around people who speak my language, let alone cultural differences, which I have little patience for. The issues of ice, etc. are of no concern to me, but I also have little patience with the clichéd ugly American (U.S.) myth (lie). I shy away from cultures that are foreign to my own to such and extent that I avoid them.

l don't drink soda much, but to me there is little difference between Pepsi and Coke. I can discern it, but have no preference.

Just don't drink the tap water.

Henry Gibbons troupe transport Hamburg to NYC 1949. I was 3 yrs old but remember the tug boats in NY harbor. 2010 Voyager of the Seas Galveston to Barcelona, mostly Texans and some Europeans going home by sea because of the disruption of air travel for the volcano eruptions. Both are pleasant memories.

I had not thought of the mangling of baggage by airlines. I would do it to prevent mangled bags which always occur.

There's another series on the AWE cable channel called Dream Cruises. I like both series.

It is very big in Russia. That is the only place I have seen it. I asked the ticket counter if I should do that and the lady said no. But it seemed that most people were doing it.

I don't care about the towel animals and once a day cleaning is all I need. I will communicate this to the steward on future cruises.

April is reposition time, transatlantic or Florida to Alaska. Few kids, but takes more time.

It strikes me that the required paperwork is not much of a safeguard.

Late summer, early autumn, all cruise line are repositioning westbound. Generally very reasonable fees. Check that out.

I have always put luggage out in the hall and every time worried about it. Once at the airport the security asked if the luggage was always in my control, and I to be honest I said no. Nothing happened and I was on my way.

Sometimes people post an obscure question and then get huffy at people trying to be helpful. Strange.

Older people might be even more friendly to a 1 yr old than other families. It makes little difference which cruise you choose. The baby will be a celebrity except when fussy and screaming. Then it is your problem.

I don't think anyone can answer this except for your FIL. If he's functioned for this many years with his alcoholism, he'll figure out how to do it on a cruise ship. Were I in your shoes, I'd just stay out of it.
I very much agree. An inexperienced drinker is much more likely to get into trouble than a long term alcoholic. I also think some of the replies are overly alarmist and harsh, including possibly the OP.

I also have a Panasonic Lumix and it takes both photos and video. Excellent camera, has Leica lens but it is not waterproof.

I check both the cruise line and other sources before making reservations. Once I even used both on a transatlantic cruise. Don't automatically rule out any possibility for the best option.

I stayed at the airport Hilton at the end of a transatlantic a few years ago. I was very pleased. There is a package you can upgrade to which includes breakfast, drinks, wifi on a separate floor, which saved lots of money. Copenhagen is very, very expensive, especially food. Most expensive place I have ever been. Getting to city center is easy by train. I took the cruise line transfer which dropped off right next to the hotel and I would expect that the cruise line will have transfer available on the day of cruise. I recommend your decision.

The $14./pack claim is highly doubtful. Cigarettes were available on all cruises I have been on in the Tax Free shops. Princess held the purchase until the end of the cruise but had packs for $4. in the bar. Can't buy a pack anywhere in the USA for that price. RCCI let you take the cartons right from the tax free shop. They were about $20/carton, $2./pack.

Safe sunscreen will be available in the venue, the lagoon or reef or whatever. It's not a rip off price because they are concerned for their environment.

Don't over look St. Colman's Cathedral right there in Cobh. A bit of a hike up the hill from the main waterfront street but very impressive. At least it was for us given it was our first European cathedral.
I traveled by train to Cork and was frankly disappointed. I found Cobh to be much more charming and interesting and wished I had just spent my time there.

Lots of confusion it seems. Maybe some of this discussion in the White House would have been helpful before the EO was issued, not to mention some heads up to affected entities. I have a US passport, but I am sorry for the victims of the EO.

Political discussion is interesting to me. I won't get into head-bashing arguments with opposite views from mine but enjoy hearing all views. Including commiserating with those of common belief to mine. Limiting topics of conversation is boring to me.
Would you travel on a cruise ship that didn't serve alcohol?

In answer to the basic question, no I would not book a no alcohol cruise. But my question is what would be the advantage to such a cruise?
