DeeDee, think I better give you a heads up here.  I was just in Bermuda and rented a pedal bike at the shop mentioned here.  First let me tell you the rental for a pedal bike is expensive, $40 for 1 day.  Second you will need to ride on the roads for about 2 miles to reach that bike trail which is near the police station.  It was not an easy ride if you aren’t in decent bike riding shape, there are hills and it was very hot.  You will have the stress of cars, trucks, buses and scooters constantly behind you so be aware.  Once on the trail things are better and less stress.

Thank You so very much for letting me know this, I think we will skip doing this in Bermuda.  I don't want to be out on the busy streets.  Your info is very much appreciated.

There is a large section of the Railway Trail that starts in Somerset not far from the Dockyard. You can rent pedal bikes at Oleanders in the Dockyard. If you want to do a tour the Island Cruise Centre offers a tour. Bermuda Railway by Bike.

Thank You! I did look into this and seems like this is what we will do

DeeDee - last time we bussed back to the Dockyard from Horseshoe, the bus driver was tailgating a man on a pedal bike.  That poor guy was pedaling like he was in the Tour de France for at least 10 minutes until he could find a place to pull off.  The entire front of the bus cheered when he finally pulled into a store parking area.  If that biker had lost control, he'd have been badly injured, at best.  Maybe you'd be okay biking around St. George or on the old railway trail, but not on any of the shoulder-less main roads, please.

Oh boy, I would never be able to pedal that fast.  Yes something like the old railway trail is what I am looking for, do you know if this is a tour or rent a bike and find your own way there?

A woman last week on my Bermuda sailing broke her hip on an electric pedal bike. Another passenger on the sailing was badly hurt on a scooter. I will stick with taxis, ferries, minibuses and buses in Bermuda.

I saw a couple get knocked off a scooter in Cozumel by a taxi, very sad

Personally, I'd be scared to bike on the roads.

I was not thinking of riding on the roads, I thought maybe a bike path or tour

  6. Rum Point is nice...but I'm a bit biased, as I'm sitting a couple minutes from there now. :-)

Here's a blurb I did up a while back when a similar question was asked:

Seven Mile Beach vs. Rum Point

Whether you will enjoy Seven Mile Beach more or less than Rum Point depends on what you are looking for in a beach experience.

    SMB:

    - very long stretch of perfectly flat white sand and gorgeous blue water

    - very little natural shade, lots of sun

    - very close to the port area, so cheap and easy to get to/from (taxi or public bus)

    - close to attractions like the Turtle Farm, Hell, dolphin experiences, rum cake factory

    - more developed (major tourist area)

    - includes a number of named sections with varying levels of facilities (sections with good free or cheap facilities are Royal Palms, Public Beach/Calico Jacks and Tiki Beach)

    - multiple choices for restaurants and shopping nearby

    - access to watersports via multiple operators at the different sections

    - couple of sections with okay snorkelling, but most of the beach has no real snorkelling to speak of

    - can be crowded in the sections with the better facilities due to proximity to port area

    - for more info on SMB, see post #2 in this thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2486022

    Rum Point:

    - smaller beach, more "secluded tropical island" in feeling

    - lots of natural shade, less sun

    - 45 minute drive from port area, can only be reached via excursion or rental car

    - not a major tourist area; surrounded by large vacation homes

    - attractions more-or-less on the way there include Pedro St. James castle, botanical gardens, blowholes, cheesy pirate caves

    - single company runs the beach and provides excellent free facilities such restrooms, showers, chairs, hammocks, etc.

    - only one restaurant (beach bar) and one small gift shop

    - one watersports operator (Red Sail)

    - easy access to okay (and slightly better than okay) snorkelling

    - crowd levels vary dramatically depending on day and number of excursions present, but usually less crowded than SMB (except on weekends/holidays)

    Thank You for the information

Do you recommend a car rental from Falmouth Port?

  7. Thank You so much for all the valuable information and the beautiful pictures.

We are interested in booking a cruise to Alaska very soon. Could you give me some tips on the best time of season to see wildlife? Somebody told me that some months are better then others. Also the rain, does it seem to rain there quite often? I did notice you were wearing shorts, and other people had winter hats on. So I was wondering do you pack a little bit of winter wear and summer wear? I could go on and on with questions but i wont do that to you.

Thank You again for your time

  8. We are going to Bermuda 10/23/16 as a last minute vacation. Trying to find info on the carriage rides. Has anybody done this tour? I am assuming contact is by phone since i cant find a website. Please give me any info/review if you have been on this tour. TIA

  9. I need to join you here. I definitely need to lose before our next cruise! I bought the 21 day fix starter kit but it looked way too time consuming for me. I might be trying good old fashioned diet and exercise

I agree, I purchased the 21day fix and it does seem time consuming. They make it look so easy on TV :(

I am going to return mine and focus on healthy eating and exercise

  10. 16:8 means fasting for 16 hours (8 of which is while you sleep anyway), then eating your meals in an 8 hour window.

6:1 means eating healthy for 6 days then fasting for 1

5:2 is eating healthy for 5 days then fasting for 2

Wonderful protocol... some more detailed info here... https://onehealthybugger.wordpress.com/2015/09/11/fasting-is-lasting/

Not as hard as it sounds... happy to share the science behind it if you wish.

    Thank You for the information

Could you please give a sample of a daily menu? If you do the 5:2 you dont eat for 2 days straight? I dont think I could do that one, i would get dizzy.

I also go to the gym 5 days a week so I shouldnt go fasting days?

  11. LOL... I know what you mean about comfort food... I'm sooooo bad. I lack self-control altogether.

16:8 is good for weight loss but 5:2 is much better and 6:1 a little better still. When I first started, I did 6:1 and in my first month, I dropped 23lbs and my wife dropped 18lbs. How much weight do you have to lose? Also.... actually, how about you send me an email as I don't wan't to hijack the thread. Also, I would like a bit more information on your current eating habits, etc.

    jeff@wellnessniagara.com :)

I am interested in hearing about this, what does 16:8,5:2 and 6:1 actually mean?

  12. We did the turtle farm on our own. You can get tickets online ahead of time and save some. They will refund them if your ship does not dock. We caught a taxi there and took the bus back. It was a great day and plenty to do there! I will say allow extra time for the ride back as traffic gets worse. We really enjoyed the turtle farm adults and kids!

Is there swimming here? If so, how clear is the water?

  13. down to 123. lost 1 lb this week.

down 2 more lbs to 124 with 4 1/2 weeks to go. hoping I can lose 9 more lbs.. that would get me to 115. can I do it? we will see, but I wont be disappointed if I dont lose all 9. that would give me a total of 28 lbs since sept 3.

please tell what you are doing to lose every week

  14. I have been reading some info on Skinny Fiber. I am wondering if anybody has or is using Skinny Fiber? It seems people are losing more inches then weight and that would be fine with me. I just dont believe anything I see online anymore so that is why I am wondering if any of you have tried it.

  15. We just got off the Sun last week, we had cabins 4314,4313 (inside) and 3 cabins oceanview on deck 4. The 2 inside cabins were bigger then our oceanview cabins. We were right under Seven Seas and we didnt smell or hear anything. Close to elevator and stairs which is also nice.
