  1. I know that tipping is a hot topic, but here goes...I was going to buy a specialty dining package at 35% off today until I got to checkout and a 20% gratuity was added to the cost.  We have done many Celebrity cruises, but I seem to remember that the upcharge was to cover the service cost and additional tipping was optional.  The 35% sale is not 35% off with a mandatory 20% gratuity added back in.  Do I not understand this correctly?  TIA.

  2. I am looking at the transatlantic on Connie in late March early April 2024.  It arrives in Barcelona on April 6, 2024 but I want to continue back to back and cannot find anything for Connie until April 23rd.  Charter? Dry dock? Anyone got the inside scoop?  Much appreciated.

  3. Just curious if anyone knows if Celebrity will follow parent Royal Caribbean's lead and get rid of the classics menu.  I have always believed the food offerings on Celebrity were one of the distinguishing features making it my preferred choice.  I know that times have been tough and costs are important to recovery, but cutting one of the primary products (along with service levels) seems short sighted to me.  Can one time a day cabin service be far away?  Charging more for less in tough economic times is a hard way to sell yourself as a higher end product.  Thoughts?

  4. We were on Summit in early July and I agree you won't have a problem - my only additional tip is to use the services of a porter when picking up your luggage. They often have a different line and seem to get preference as their tip income depends on making as many trips as possible...still a line, but quicker in my opinion. Enjoy your trip!

  5. Good news - i just got recreived a call from Celebrity. More typical in my experience, she was apologetic and enthusiastic in wanting make this experience wonderful for my family. Still a work in progress, but I am once again confident in my selection of Celebrity to provide my family a memorable experience.

Thank you all for your interest, support and information. I knew my cruise critic friends would come through!

  6. Thanks so much for the input - I have, in fact already contacted the captains club and customer service with no assistance forthcoming. This is why I am hopeful that someone here has a contact or that Celebrity (wishful thinking) might lurk here and help. I have followed up with an email to concerns@celebrity.com and hope that gets a response. The back up ideas are appreciated, though I think he really hoped to have the captain (asst. capt?) perform it on the ship. While I was surprised there was a $650 fee for this, he is willing to pay that. Just mystified it is proving so hard to give Celebrity his money. Would anyone have the captain club host's email for the Equinox? Again, thanks for reading and responding - would really like to help him make this happen....

  7. Well, it's happened. In any relationship, sooner or later, you hit a pothole. We are sailing on back to back Equinox cruises, June 20 and 27. My DW and I are elite history customers and have influenced six other family members to join us. My brother-in-law has, for a month, been trying to arrange a surprise renewal of vows for he and his wife during the first week when their kids would also be on board.

First, the wedding department stated that there was no sea day during the cruise and therefore they could not arrange this. When we pointed out that in fact June 23 is a sea day and only looks like a Mykonos port day because we depart at 3am, they have ceased to communicate at all.

I have contacted the captains club as well as customer service to NO avail. It seems odd that my complaint would be, "We want to spend an extra $650 with you for a half hour ceremony (nothing elaborate, only the eight of us and a photographer) and you seem defiant in wanting to take our money.

This is NOT what I have come to expect and I am greatly disappointed in the lack of response or assistance.

I am asking the forum to please help me assist my brother-in-law in declaring he would marry her again by identifying any effective means of communicating our problem and/or suggesting any effective solutions. I have lurked on these boards for years with very few posts, but I am confident there is experience and knowledge here to help. Thanks in advance..

  8. We, too are doing b2b for the first time. We will be ending leg 1 and beginning leg 2 in Rome. Any information about this location's specifics for b2b? What about dealing with valuables - we are wanting to use our limited time in Rome that day - is it possible to have guest services lock up valuables instead of keeping them with us if we are trying to leave as early as possible? Much thanks in advance for the help!

  9. We were just in a Sky Suite on Century in February and loved it. I do not remember an Ipod dock (but do not own an Ipod). There was a dvd player so may have had the dock as well, but just don't remember...

The butler tip is included in the standard tip charge, but we left him extra as he was great - you will love the extra service.

The bath amenities are upgraded and my wife felt the quality was very good - included lotion...

Our stateroom attendant was a woman named Luna - she was the best we have experienced in almost 20 cruises, hands down - I think we were in 1061 if memory serves...

Do enjoy the afternoon tea that your butler (ours was a gentleman named Savio) brings by the room - my wife particularly enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries...

    Enjoy your cruise!!

  10. We took this cruise last June - you will have a fantastic trip! I booked all of our tours with private vendors, however in retrospect, would recommend you consider the ship's excursion for this port. The people on the ship excursions were indeed given priority - in fact, they tendered off at a completely different place before the ship went on to tender us off to the cable car base. I believe those on the ship excursion were bussed to Oia first and then came back over to Fira. The tender experience was quite crowded (complicated by other ships) and there is a line to then get on the cable car. The donkey path did not look like a good time - it is quite a trek and the donkeys do own the path and mark their territory! Whatever way you decide to go, you can look forward to one of the most beautiful stops on your trip....
