  1. Not very familiar with ship classes, but I sailed on Spirit a few years ago using a mobility scooter. We had a "sideways" accessible room (take regular cabin and turn it 90 degrees so long side is where you walk in) with balcony.

First, the door to the balcony was right next to the wall of closets. There was little or no room to get to the start of the ramp out. Secondly, the slope of the ramp was ridiculous. It was only about 12 - 14 inches long and it had to reach the 6 inch lip of the door.

In fact, I found the ship to be barely ADA compliant. My scooter couldn't navigate the sliding doors to go out onto the deck. For the muster drill they told us to sit in the lounge. We sat there chatting with two other disabled passengers as there was no sound system so we couldn't even hear what was being said. :(

  2. I took the crab excursion in June. The boat was very comfortable (I use a mobility scooter) and the owners/employees were terrific.

One important thing I haven't seen mentioned is that there are several times during the presentation when they let you get up and walk around so you can get closer and hold the crabs, etc. They are also very nice to stop and pose for pictures several time during the trip.

I had booked this because my adult son was supposed to be on the trip but couldn't come at the last minute. Rather than cancelling it I took it by myself. I'm so glad that I did.

  3. I pre-paid for the unlimited package before my recent cruise on Radiance of the Seas. I paid $249.95.

My adult son was supposed to travel with me and the last time we cruised together I spent well over $200 on pix. At the last minute he was unable to go so I made the cruise solo. I debated backing out of the package but decided to keep it.

On the ship they were pushing the package at $299.95 discounted to $249.95! I told the first photographer that took my picture that I'd paid for the package and I was expecting them to take lots of pictures.:)

By the end of the cruise I had 35 photos in my file. Yes, some of them weren't that great and I probably wouldn't have purchased them; but most of them were good and I have plenty to share with my family. I definitely got my money's worth at roughly $7/per photo.

  4. ship - radiance of the seas

    deck - 2

    stateroom # - 2023

stateroom category – q, accessible interior

starboard or port side - port

quiet stateroom? absolutely: I've been on deck 2 on another ship and it was noisy night and day. We must have been over the galleys, etc. This was completely different. Loved it!

was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

    balcony view - n/a

    balcony size? - n/a

    was wind a problem? -n/a

if an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - n/a

any specific problems with this cabin? - no problems at all.

any other comments? - this cabin was literally two cabins put together to make one. It was huge!! I was solo so i had one king size bed. I had plenty of room for mobility scooter and all of the spoils from much shopping!;)

i loved having the little love seat and the table (to hold wine bucket and room service meals!). This is my first inside cabin and i would select it again in a heartbeat.:):)

  5. How big was your boat? Was your captain worried? After checking the website for Harv and Marv, it seems our captain had only been in charge for a year and was only 19, so was short on experience being a solo captain and maybe maturity was a factor...

We were on the Odysea, one of the bigger boats out there. I'm guessing about 30-40 people? Capt. Larry is apparently one of the first whale watch captains in Alaska. He has lots of years of experience...20-30 if I remember correctly.

The only indication of concern he had was for the smaller Orca Enterprises boat that also was out. We ran interference for them in the choppy waters.

To be honest, we'd been out quite a while because the humpbacks were bubble net fishing and it was spectacular viewing. I think we would have been heading in anyway even if whitecaps weren't starting to appear.

  6. I was in Juneau on June 18th and used Orca Enterprises. Juneau had really bad weather the day before including thunder and lightning. They pulled all boats out of the water that day.

We were heading back in about noon when water really started kicking up so I wouldn't doubt that afternoon tours could have been cancelled.

  7. On Radiance of the Seas to Alaska, May 2010...Agnelo (waiter) and Joao (assistant waiter).

My friend and I were assigned to a table for 6. On the first night only one other couple showed up; after that we never saw them again! Both Joao and Aggie went out of their way at every meal to make sure we didn't feel awkward. And, as with most wait staff I've encountered, they seemed to know our likes and dislikes after only one meal.

Joao also worked in the Windjammer for lunch. My friend and I both used mobility scooters and he was always there to carry trays and fetch drinks for us.

Without a doubt, they were the best you could ask for!
