  1. I am on the Anthem next week. We are booked in a JS. I was able to reserve the Coastal Kitchen for several nights through the cruise planner. Those reservations now show up on my calendar. Are you saying they might not honor these reservations? Could we get bumped?

  2. We've sailed on Anthem in a balcony room several times, but for our next cruise we have reserved a Junior spa suite. My understanding is that we may dine in the Coastal Kitchen .... dinner only. My question: Do we make reservations for that ahead of time? or must we wait until we are onboard? Do we have to worry about it being 'full'? I don't see an option for Coastal Kitchen reservations in the cruise planner ........ ?

    thank you for your help!

  3. I have cruised many times as part of a two-some, therefore never needing the sofa bed.

On my upcoming cruise on the Anthem, however, we are THREE adults in a balcony cabin, deck 11.

My question ..... will the steward set up the sofa bed each evening and put it away in the morning or is that our responsibility?

Hope this is not too silly a question... but I like to know what to expect. Thank you!

  4. The other two are at Kings Wharf and Heritage Wharf. The Heritage Wharf location is inside that pier's customs building and isn't easily accessible to anyone other than those disembarking the ship docked there. The Kings Wharf location is on the outside of that pier's building. Lines can be long at any of them particularly on a ship's first day in port.

Ok ... well, I guess this means that lines are inevitable. It would be so much easier to just use cash for the ferry. I sent an email to the appropriate folks in Bermuda and received a prompt answer. While cash is acceptable, they prefer tokens or tickets. So I don't want to be "that person" and bend the rules. I will plan on getting tokens.

Thank you for your help. :)

  5. Last year, several returnees from Bermuda posted that they were able to use a $5 bill on the ferry. The ferry schedule only states Cash Fare $5 unlike the bus schedule which specifies "Fare $5, exact change only, no dollar bills".

There are 3 Visitor Information Centers at the Dockyard where tokens can be purchased. Pay the fare with a $5 bill, and then post back here the result when you return.

Thank you for helping me with this. I had no idea that there were THREE places in the Dockyard to get tokens. I just used the main one in the 'middle'. I will look for the others .... hopefully smaller lines.

  6. Last year, when we were in Bermuda, we stood in the very long lines at the visitor's center to get our tokens for the ferry ride to Hamilton.

I keep reading that they take cash ..... but it has to be in coins. Is that true? We would have to bring 20 quarters or 5 dollar coins with us? (It would be so much easier to use a $5 bill)

I'm just thinking at I'd rather bring the cash (coin) with me, rather than tackle that token line.......

Anyone use cash for the Hamilton ferry?

    Thanks for your advice!

  7. Would someone please enlighten me about this? I've read about the "guaranteed" cabin in other threads, and I've never really understood the whys or the wherefores.... When I book a cruise, usually online, I select my cabin right then. Under what circumstances would someone get a "guaranteed cabin" and why would anyone do this? Thank you for making me a wee bit smarter... :)

  8. On our first cruise it was taken out the first night and not put away until we asked. On Navigator last month we just asked him to put it away every morning when he introduced himself on the first day. We like having a couch :)

They also set it up with nice linens and a duvet so it is a much nicer experience than sleeping on one at a hotel.

Yes. I would like the couch during the day. Thank you for letting me know that this is an option!

  9. I sailed on the Anthem last year, in a balcony cabin with my husband. This year I'm about to sail on the Anthem again .... this time in a balcony cabin with my sister and mother. This will be my first experience with a sofa bed, since '3 people' means that one of us will obviously be sleeping on the pull out.

My question : Does the steward set this up for us? Is it opened and closed every day or does it just stay open?

    thank you

  10. Thanks for this wonderful review!!! I learned SO much and I'm most grateful.

Read with interest the lines you had entering your Florida port. I was on the Bermuda/Boston cruise last year on the Anthem. Bermuda was first, then Boston, so it was the same problem of stopping at a US port after leaving the country. On that cruise, they brought about 8-10 passport officers onboard in Boston and stationed them in the SeaPlex. All passengers were required to go there to get their passports examined for re-entry into the US. They had rope lines all over the SeaPlex floor. Took a good long while to get through the lines, but you couldn't get off the boat without doing it. However .... this did not hasten anything back in Cape Liberty. That process all seemed the same to me. We waited in line there and showed our passport and customs form to an officer in a booth. I'll be on the same cruise again in a few weeks. It will be interesting to see if they handle this the same way.....

  11. Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated with this fabulous review of absolutely everything!! I was on the Anthem last year for the Bermuda/Boston, and I thought I had explored the ship thoroughly. I'm seeing things through your eyes that I never stumbled upon in my adventures. I'll be on the ship again in a few weeks... I'll have to look harder!

My one question today is about the Spicy Shrimp entree in Chops. I've never eaten there before, but I have a reservation coming up. You only can select one entree, correct? So I'm a little worried about the "spicy" part. Garlic, lemon, butter .... sounds delicious.... but "spicy"? Can you get more than one appetizer?

again.... thank you for your time and effort. I look forward to your next round of observations!

  12. Believe me, I feel the same as you. I actually LOVE this ship and had nothing bad to say about it, but then we get the worst stateroom attendant ever and now this happens. I'm still happy to be here and I'm going to enjoy my last couple of days here. Enjoy the rest of your cruise, as long as my room is cleaned I know I will enjoy it.

I am SO happy to hear you say this!!! I keep reading so many complaints, it's been worrying me for our May cruise. I LOVE that you LOVE the ship!

All the food complaints make me nervous. Since you're happy, I'm hoping that you found the food to be ok? (fingers crossed for another positive response!) Thanks so much for taking the time to run this thread.

  13. I've never posted before..... but I can't resist this Bremen thread! I traveled from NYC to Bremen and back again in the summer of 1966. I was a teenager traveling with my grandparents. I saved everything, and recently looked through the lot. Menus, weather maps, passenger lists, and the daily 'event' paper (featuring movies in German/English every-other-night). Very different from cruises today. I remember the dinner announcement over a loud speaker : "Meine Damen und Herren ...."
