  1. Thanks for comments about wheelchairs.  I have tried two different scooters but finally ordered a powered wheelchair after finding the scooters just too inconvenient having to park it in restaurants and bars and finding they just required too much space - especially in elevators.  Loving the idea I can just ride wheelchair to table and not have to always be leaving it somewhere.  My Air Hawk wheelchair can be folded but they say the cabin doors are 26” wide and the wheelchair is only 23” wide so hope I don’t have to fold all the time though glad I have that option.

  2. I love your reviews and think I have read all of them.  Particularly interested in this one since you had the wheelchair.  I finally broke down and bought a power wheelchair after my Escape cruise last year and will be taking it on it's first cruise in February on the Joy.  Did you have much trouble getting your chair in and out of your room?  I just wonder if I will have to fold mine up every time I go to the room......

  3. According to NCL guidelines, passengers going to the Panama Canal must have a valid passport, period.  Expiration date is not noted unless you are a non-US citizen.  I hope that's true - our trip returns March 1st and my passport expires May 19th.  Has this ever actually been an issue for anyone?

  4. Has anyone cruised with an Air Hawk Wheelchair?  After trying different scooters I am anxious to try a powered wheelchair.  My scooters are too heavy for me to fold and travel with and I have found the Air Hawk which I hope is light enough for me to handle.  I love the idea of a chair that I can just pull up to a table rather than having to park my scooter and walk.  Also love the idea of a better turning radius and easier steering.  Would love to hear others comment on their Air Hawks!

  5. I am going to buy a new scooter - a Smartscoot, Travelscoot or the Clion SnapnGo - and none of them has keys.  How do you keep your scooter safe if you must leave it when visiting stores or restaurants?  That subject is rarely discussed on this board.  Also would be interested in which scooter you have and why.

  6. This makes me so sad! I cruised from France to New York in the summer of 1966 and had such a wonderful time on this very elegant ship. For an 18 year old, it seemed magical! I am so sorry to see it rusted and abandoned but even so, you can tell just by looking that it was once so majestic!

  7. Sadly, I tend to be cold all the time. Could someone let me know how cool they keep the restaurants, showrooms and bars? I hate always lugging a lightweight jacket with me but most ships I have been on seem to be over air conditioned - How is the Escape??

  8. I will be taking my Lexis Light scooter on a cruise the end of this month and will be flying. I plan to fold it up before giving it to airline personnel to place in luggage compartment but don't know what type of ID tags to put on it that won't be ripped off. Please advise!

  9. I will be taking my Lexis Light on my NCL cruise next month for the first time. As a result of the great conversations in this thread, I think I will be fine on the ship. My main question is: When you ride your scooter to the airplane gate and give it to the crew to stow, do you put it in freestyle mode and break it down for them?

  10. ?!I have not cruised Princess in 4 years but have decided to do a cruise to Hawaii on the Grand Princess with family. When I try to book any cabin (other than expensive mini suite) it tells me that my deposit will not be refundable for any reason . Since the cruise is six months out I am shocked - have never heard of such a practice on any cruise line! Is this now normal for Princess??

  11. Thank you all for your replies! One of the reasons I chose the Lexis Light is that it can be easily taken apart into 3 pieces (one being the battery) or even folded and pulled like a piece of luggage. It sounds to me that the scooter will fit through the doorway but might be a problem actually in the room. In that case, I can take it apart so it will take up much less room. I will call NCL to let them know I will be bringing it.

    Thanks again!!

  12. Thanks everyone for your input! I hate to change to an accessible cabin since walking long distances is my only real handicap and I know there are people who need those rooms more. Based in Norwegians statement that the scooter should be able to get through a 26" door, I'm sure all will be well. Besides, it easily breaks down if necessary.

FM - I love this scooter! I searched high and low for one that I could just put in my trunk myself and this is it. I've only had it for a few months now but can find nothing to complain about!

  13. I had made a reservation for a regular balcony cabin on the Escape prior to deciding that I should definitely take my Lexis Light scooter on this cruise. Everything I read on Norwegian board indicates that the scooter will fit through the cabin doors, however, I would love to know if anyone has actually traveled with a scooter in their balcony cabins. Thanks!
