On some voyages (at least on NCL), it's actually cheaper to pay the supplement and stay in a "standard" interior cabin than in a smaller solo interior. You won't get the use of the solo lounge, but it may or may not be important to you (it's not important to me).
Just on the above (incase the studio lounge is important to you) when i was on Epic last year there was a few solos who were in 'normal' cabins rather than studios and they spoke to guest relations and they were able to get their cards changed to allow access to the lounge. So basically as long as you are solo in any cabin you will be able to get access to the solo lounge.
Having sailed solo on Royal Caribbean, Thomson and NCL my favourite by a mile was NCL, this was due to the solo lounge and being able to meet other solos there and also having an amazing solo host.
Thomson was funny as i attended the solo meet up on the first evening and it was only me there , slightly awkward!!! It wasn't a problem as later that evening in the disco i found various people who were with larger groups but had 'broken free'!! They become my friends for the week.
Royal Caribbean didn't have a solo meet up but this was several years ago and on one of their smaller ships so this will most likely have changed. Again though i found people to spend time with so not an issue.
Finally, if it helps, i personally don't worry about single suppliments etc i have a budget i have to stick to and as long as the cruise is within that budget then i am happy :D
Happy solo cruising - you won't look back! :)

Hi -my e-Docs were ready 30 days before sailing but not before that even though i had completed all the online check-in.
Hope that helps :)

Hi - i went solo on NCL Epic a couple of years ago, i was 33 and the age group was really varied.
There were around 30 solos that got involved in the daily meet ups and there were probably around 11/12 under 35s.
The Epic is a really popular option for people from UK/Europe to cruise solo as we have less options available to us and the Epic caters for solos so well. Because of this you get a really varied and international group.
Out of my 9 cruises it was my favourite my a mile just because of the different people i met from all over the world.
Hope that helps :)

I've also been solo on the Epic and had a great time. I booked today for the Greek Isles on the Jade, and I'm hoping I'll meet plenty people looking to have a drink and a chat.
The big difference for me this time is I'll be in a wheelchair and just got out of hospital 4 weeks ago after a 10 month stay.
I need to challenge myself and there's no better way than on a cruise. I'll be practicing my walking with sticks every day, just like I do at home, and hopefully with the exercise and rest, I'll be in a better situation than when I went on!
i completely believe we should challenge ourselves so well done you! Don't suppose you're on my sailing on 17 September?

You might want to correct your signature (you have Jade instead of Epic for 2014). :)
Oh - thank you! i'd just booked Jade when i updated my signature, had Jade on the mind :D

I'm soloing on Jade at the end of September (24th), having also enjoyed the Epic first. If you're back before I go, I'd love to hear about your experience.
what a shame - you will get on as i get off :(!

Thank you for all your replies, i'm glad they do have a solo coordinator so they are at least catering for solos in some way.
This will be my fourth solo so kind of know what to expect but i still get nervous!

Hi!
i've booked to travel solo on Jade in a few weeks time and wondered if anyone had any experience/words of wisdom to share?!
i was solo on Epic a couple of years ago and it was the BEST cruise i've had out of my 9 so far. i am very aware though that Epic is better prepared for solos with the studio cabins and solo lounge.
Any advice would be great! :)

Strongbow is certainly included
Thank you, i think i'll go ahead with it then :D
-
if we don't have the UBP as a perk we go for the corks and caps package to purchase as we are mainly beer and wine drinkers]
Strongbow cider should be included especially if on draft
prosecco is definitely included
thank you :D

Hi Laura,
Did you not take UBP as one of your free at sea options?
Surely cheaper than buying a package, even the lesser corks & caps.
Mark
i missed the promotion by a few days :(, i pushed hard but they wouldn't move on it at all

Hi - i am looking at the Drinks packages available and i wondered if anyone could possibly give me any more info on the 'Corks and Caps Wine and Beer Package' on Norwegian Jade?
i don't drink cocktails or spirits at all so seems a better fit to me and it is cheaper than the UBP.
i do like to have a strongbow though, does anyone know if these are included? Also, are there any sparkling wines included?
Any help would be appreciated! :)
Does age matter on solo cruise?

Hi - i did my first solo cruise at 30 then 31 and 33 and have always found the age group of solos very varied and have never had any issues finding people i get on with.
My favourite solo trip was with NCL hense booking again (i leave on Saturday at the ripe old age of 35 ;)). They cater so well for solos and the NCL one i went on had the most 'younger' people on.
Do it - i promise i never once regretted my decision to go solo!
