Thanks! I just booked the Serenade studio for b2b (same itinerary) 7 day cruise from Stockholm for next June. So excited!! I've wanted to go to St Petersburg for ages. This will give me 4 days there.

BTW I loved the Carnival Magic out of Galveston!

  2. Hey kits! I'm sailing the Getaway Easter week! Waiting in NOLA now, having just gotten off RCCL Serenade with a studio cabin. Will post a new thread comparison! Miss you!

Looking forward to hearing about those! I'm off to the Carnival Magic from Galveston this week. It's been years since I've been on Carnival but with all the "no single supplement" opportunities I decided to try this one. I'm spending winters in New Mexico and it's an easy two day drive to Galveston. Then next month I'm off to Holland America for a round trip from San Diego to Lima.

I hope we'll find ourselves on the same cruise again one of these days!!

    Have fun on the Getaway!!

  3. After my cousin just backed out of my April Hawaiian cruise, I booked the NCL Getaway. Surprised the price was just slightly above the Epic studios since February is the maiden voyage of the Getaway. NCL treats solos the best: we love the studios, the lounge and it's amenities, and the solo gatherings. You can cruise Carnival for no supplements thus year, but in my humble opinion, choose the Epic, Breakaway or Getaway for a great solo experience!

HEY, I SECOND THAT! You and I were on the same cruise on the Epic and our group of new friends had a blast, especially that night when we ordered all the deserts on the menu in The Bistro :) I've been back to the Epic several times and am looking forward to the Breakaway and the Getaway.

  4. I was lucky. I contacted the front desk on the Prinsendam, someone checked and found no air movement from the vent and it was quickly repaired. We received a plate of chocolates as an apology.

I travel with a thermometer. I want to be able to tell the cruise line how hot my cabin is in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius. I will fill out a comment card at the front desk if resolution is not almost immediate. I will not spend more than one night in a hot cabin. I will not accept a fan, I don't like them, they just move hot air. I will ask to be moved to another cabin with working a/c or flown home at the cruise line's expense with a full refund of all my cruise and air expenses. I will let the cruise line know that how disappointed I am. Decent air conditioning is not negotiable in 2014.

I just put a thermometer on my "to pack" list. Thanks

  5. Hi Don! I’ve been waiting for your review and I must say, you’re doing it up right!! It was fun comparing notes with you on the cruise, someone who was obviously enjoying it every bit as much as I was. Only 40 days til I head back for the TA:):):) And a bit of dessert advice for future cruisers, grab that Chocolate Decadence whenever it comes out. It doesn't happen often enough and it "sells out" quick.

  6. I just became a solo cruiser - my mother died several weeks ago. I decided to take the cruise we had planned anyway, but book an inside room instead. I got a 150% or so rate and thought that was good, but today they dropped the price to 100%. Feb 6 2011 12 days from Bayonne NJ for under $900. I got a better cabin (deck 10 near the elevator) for less than our original deposit for a balcony, so I have a modest OBC. I'm a senior and live in MA and that affected the price. I'm hoping someone else might be able to take advantage of this deal as well.

Thanks so much for this tip, absolutely great for a solo. I just booked it and am looking forward to meeting you.
