  1. We had the pleasure of a week on Splendor twice, in 2011, and again last April. Both times we had a wonderful cruise. We had great wait staffs, wonderful room attendants, and a great time with all the entertainment, and bar service, etc. She is a great ship, with a crew that takes pride in her. When we cruised, they kept that ship immaculate. And you gotta love that retractable roof! Thanks for a great review, and the great memories of Splendor.:)

  2. Back to back is probably different, but usually I think you have to order your cruise booze in advance to be in your room for sailing.

Purchases of alcohol from the ship is held for debark as well as outside purchases. I was surprised to find that out last year. But thats why they have the order option I guess.

  3. We were so impressed with Splendor we turned around and booked again last spring.

This ship was kept clean through and through.

I experienced no problems with wait staff, but we prefer traditional dining time where your waiter gets to know you. I have heard issues about anytime dining are taking place on other lines even.

Since my first cruise with Carnival was 2010, I can't say I have noticed the change in quality, and have so far enjoyed all the food.

Is it Princess or Celebrity? No, but I can't afford a balcony on those ships, so overall cruise experience for us is really great!

  4. I don't think I could handle so much food, considering I can barely waddle out of the MDR after dinner! Oh well you did it once and it wasn't for you.

Obviously it is a really good experience to many who choose to pay the price more than once. I used to try all the specialty restaurants, especially when they were a new thing. My best experience was on Celebrity Infinity in her inaugural

season. The United States Dining room. It was simply the most elegant evening I have ever spent. The food was just superb, and the room was incredible to just be in. We did a few, then kind of just gravitated back to the dining room experience which is totally enough for us at this point. we also enjoyed the Mystery dinner theater that RCI does one evening on a cruise. Carnival should do something like that, I am sure it would be a big hit. Nice to have choices!

  5. I agree with those addressing the management and the attitude of Gerry Cahill.

He reminds me of a past Disneyland CEO named Paul Pressler who ruled in the 90's and nearly let Disneyland turn to dust. It was a sad thing to witness at the time for people who loved the park. Make your money and profit yes, but you do have to keep the confidence of the customers or you will lose them.

  6. We discussed our embarkation plan this evening, and decided that even with the 4 children in our group of 12, we will arrive as early as possible like 9:00 am. That way we will be assured a place to sit down even if it is a long wait.

we think that will be better than arriving amongst the large crowd, and having to stand in line. Hopefully the process won't be too bad!

Getting close and we are really excited! Our daughter is getting married on this ship next year as well. Can't wait to try her out!:D

  7. Wow outstanding review! Thanks for all the great pictures.

The pride is a beautiful ship.

We are leaving in 75 days for our cruise on the Splendor, and I love looking at pics and reading reviews prior to leaving on a cruise!

This is exactly the thing to set the mood.

I just made our room reservations last night for courtyard marriott in Long Beach. We got a park and sail deal which will save us some significant cash on parking cost at the terminal. They also throw in free breakfast for 2 people in each room and a shuttle to and from the pier. We are driving in and gas is going up up up, so anything we can save on is nice.

Can you tell I am excited? Sorry your review got me going! :)

  8. We did for my mother-in-laws 50th wedding anniversary group cruise.

I made a special decoration for them with their wedding photo on it, and decorations for everyone else saying celebrating 50 years with Emma & Gilbert! We made tee shirts also with the same thing. Lot's of fun!

  9. The other half of David-n-Rita here - My husband got a warning about his response to a very nasty poster and left cruise critic forever, he refuses to visit it anymore, therefore David-n-Rita is gone. So I am on my own and all our pictures are on our webpage in the form of cruise journal which are unavailable on webshots.

Webshots has been losing our pictures and we have been unable to upload our May cruise - after many tries about 12 pictures made it. I transferred everything to our own website where we can give an honest review without editing (they also edited his cruise review) The link to the journals is below - enjoy, there is alot more info that can be put on webshots, they limit the captions and they do not have a journal format.

We will be sailing the Splendor in Sept and also on the Magic - we do our journals in real time on our website so pictures are posted the day they are taken.

I was just checking out your website and all your cruises. Spectacular!

Hey tell David to come back, I have been flamed several times, and had several of my posts disappear also. I just can't figure out sometimes what gets left on versus what gets booted! Oh well, there are still plenty of great posters here who would love to hear from both of you I'm sure!

  10. Thanks and I do the same with my Platinum status while my hubby naps on the comfy beds - we slept the best on the cruise ships - love the aft rocking effect.

Maybe we'll bump into each other racing around to get our empty ship pictures.

    Happy cruising

Thanks for the great pics on webshots!

We are on Splendor next May, and I am so excited to sail on her!

We are also aft, because we love the rocking at night as well.

My husband and I usually get up about 3 or 4 in the morning once on each cruise and walk around taking pictures. There are little to no one around, and you can get some really good photos of the ship.

  11. Bravo,Bravo. Not only wrong but rude also.(As you can see I started sentences with capital letters and made them to words so I would not be rude to the gentleman from Ohio)

    :cj

    Absolutely true!

we all need to spread kindness around a bit more.:)

  12. I am always very polite to rude people anywhere i go. My Mom taught me how to do this, and it frequently makes me smile when the rude person ends up stuttering and feeling a little embarrassed and awkward for not getting a rise out of me! Okay sometimes they just remain rude, but i have no worries, just move on...

having some experience with group travel that seemed to always include the older crowd (I am 51 now no spring chicken), I have noticed that elderly people are a bit like small children sometimes. they are over tired from travel, out of there element, a little cranky, and need a nap!:D

  13. Chronic complainers. OMG....go home!!!! Why are they even on the cruise??? Hate, hate, hate hearing "the food was much better on the......ship" "The service is much better on the .....ship". We had a single man sitting at our dinner table on the Explorer. All he did was complain. The whole table was so fed up with this man. When someone asked him what he did for a living, his response was a little bit of a mumble. After repeating the question he responded a little louder..."I am a bus driver" OMG...complete silence. Now, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being a bus driver, but this man acted as if he was the CEO of AT&T. I hate arrogance. There are all walks of life, some rich, some poor and some in between. Arrogant people do not impress me, so please keep your complaints to yourself. We do not want to hear them. We work hard all year to afford a vacation and we do not want it ruined by you. (when I say "we"), I mean all of the people that are just lucky enough to be on the ship to begin with.

I am with you all the way here!

I am the type who's last cruise always seem like the best till I go again!

Complainers are the worst kind of bores.

I am a little nervous about my upcoming Mariner cruise, because my husband and I will be on our own for the first time. We have such a large family, and I sometimes host groups, so we have never cruised with less than 12 people before. We are set for late seating at a table for 6, hope we meet nice people:rolleyes: i am sure we will.

I cured the packing thing for myself by trying to pack early in the day on the last day. That way I can tell myself hey I'm done and can enjoy and relax the rest of the day and evening. But let's face it the last day can be a downer cuz you know it's back to the real world.

The first meal off the ship, whether you cook it or pay for it is just the worst!
