  1. We are due to go on the Translantic in November and stop at NY over night...was wondering if we will still dock there now there is a confirmed case of Ebola.?

    Thankyou Brenda xx

You're joking right? 1 confirmed case. Isolated in a hospital.

Does your itinerary include an excursion to the patient's room?

  2. Dear NJ Fred,

Thank you for your diligence. To be absolutely thorough with your "Quality Control Audit of Cabin Steward" I humbly suggest adding to your inspection the following which I ardently pursue upon entering my cabin well before I consider unpacking, or opening the cabin's sparkling wine awaiting consumption:

    - Finger wipe of the ceiling (Dust mites parachuting on to passenger's faces while sleeping is a concern that has me performing this check twice daily. Standing on the cabin's chair in your shoes is very helpful for this. And if the cabin steward does not clean your shoe's imprints afterwards, he or she should be disciplined.)

    - Pulling off all bed-sheets and flipping the mattress to check for stains hidden on the underside. (I so worry of catching unspeakable social-diseases from what may lie below my bedding.)

    - Black-light your sheets and bathroom (I thank Anthony Melchiorri, host of Hotel Impossible, for this tid-bit. You may find portable ultraviolet lights that fit comfortably into your carry-on cheaply online.)

    - Sniff the drapes (Only the best-of-the best cabin stewards fluff and deodorize twice daily a cabin's drapery.)

I'm surprised and disappointed that you do not finger wipe picture frames. As a devoted viewer of Hotel Impossible, I never accept a hotel room, cruise cabin, or my best friend's guest room should there be the slightest trace of gray left on my fingers after a frame wipe.

I wish you many sanitized cruises with cabin stewards who meet both of our minimal expectations without our having worry of fiberglass strands placed between our sheets.

  3. There should be NO “free” champagne, period. They could save what, $2000 per cruise every week for every ship? I hope the free champagne goes away. As someone who drinks NO alcohol, I question why that should be built into my fare. I’ll be sure to write in my comment card : No free champagne please.

Want not, waste not. Also, certain religions are offended by free champagne.

So don’t just reduce it by an ounce. Reduce it by 100%. The complainers will complain no matter what.

And the winner for the most absurd complaint goes to....

  4. The answer may simply be: bridge players are literally dieing off, and with the diminished interest the hiring of a Bridge Director is an economic frivolity.

Beyond casinos, the communal activity of card play is unfortunately becoming an antiquity.

  5. Listen - I know that this is not a big issue on a scale of 1 - 10 :p, nor will it ruin my cruise if I do get a female butler but for the sake of discussion I was asking for those with experiences and yes comments  Like a said - I imagine that this is a personal preference - some men prefer a female masseuse and wouldn't care for a male - I would prefer a male butler. When someone uses the word "butler" - a man comes to MY mind. If X included a maid in your cabin class - I would expect the maid to be a woman. I don't need to explain myself but I'll tell you - we don't have a butler at home - LOL - wait dh might beg to differ. :D

And should nurses be women, and doctors only men? Ouch.

Why would you prefer a male butler other an outdated image based upon a hierarchical profession one gender once deemed themselves the better suited over another gender?

The duties of a cabin butler are not requisite upon gender.

  6. Cute! We got hooked the same way. My wife walked me in a travel agency and said sureprise I'm booking you a cruise for your birthday present. It had been a fantasy of mine for years. That was in 2004 and now we're addicted!

    What was you'lls first ship?

Ours was a 4 day on Carnival Imagination to Key West and Nassau. We never made Key West due to bad weather.

Celebrity Summit was our first and second ships. Since then we've only been on Celebrity (Eclipse) and soon in January we'll be on Reflection.

    How was Carnival for ya?

  7. i live in bogota which is next to hackensack. and my bf lives in belleville. what is pied piper? My bf took me for my birthday last year and we have been hooked ever since. i just came back from a 2 week cruise and book one for next oct.

The way you got hooked on cruising is how we got hooked. I surprised my partner with a cruise (our first) for his Bday. He didn't know on what or to where we were going until I got him to Port Liberty in Bayonne.

Pied Piper is a gay travel agency out of NYC. The fares are discounted and you travel as a group on a regular cruise but you don't have to be with the group in all of their functions (but the free cocktail parties are a definite must participate). We've traveled twice with them. Pied Piper was our first cruise.

If you'd like to talk more about similar cruising interests feel welcome to e-mail us at Montclair2Guys[at]aol[dot]com.

  8. Me and my partner love cruising. Nothing like being out on the ocean. we ususally just sail from ny but i think were gonna have to change ports in 2014 so we can see other islands.

    Hi TheMixedOne86,

My partner and I used to live in Ridgefield Park and Hackensack. We now live in Montclair but still drive up to Bergen County for dinner and visiting with friends.

Have you and your partner ever cruised with Pied Piper? That was how we got into cruising.

    My Best,

    Paul
