  1. I was wondering if anyone did this option, and what were the food options? Was the food good?

We have one night out if of 5 with no dinner reservation, and I just heard about this one.
PS I know there are lots of places to eat, but this sounds like fun.

The app works on the local network once on the ship so it makes no difference if you have the streaming or the regular WiFi. The ability to message others doesn’t work in the app, but WhatsApp is usually fine on all WiFi unless the weather is terrible and they lose connection to the satellite (then no WiFi works at all).

Personally I don’t see the value in the afternoon tea, there is plenty of other good food for free, The Galley has a large selection of patisserie style cakes. But it is charged as enough for one person and I don’t think there is anything stopping you splitting a serving for one.

It’s about a two minute walk down the pier to the tram at Bimini, there is no transport from the ship to the tram but it isn’t far. Be aware that if you get off at other ports there may be even longer walks through port areas.

I’ve personally never had an issue getting into shows, but fitness clssses can fill up quickly and the smaller activities (like Grog Walk and Loteria). Festival Stage is guest acts like comedians or magicians. LOLz supper club is brand new this week and it’s three comedians in a 90 minute show with dinner. BoomVang is just a nightclub night, Heartbeat is a better one.

Thank you very much for your replies!

The fee for the high tea is per person, whether you share the food or not.  They bring an amount for each person but if there are 2 of you, it comes on one serving array.
I have not found scones and cream on VV,  THere ars chocolate scones in RD, but they need to be warmed up; I'm not a fan of them "as served."

You cannot reserve shows until after boarding.Booking availability depends on length of cruise and how many people book things and don't show up. THere is a standby line and we have generally been seated from the standby line.

Festival Stage is the entertainers who are brought on for one or two cruises....it may be a magician, a mentalist, or whatever.  There are generally 2 or 3 per cruise.

Yes, the supper club is a show with dinner served

Behing the Scenes is $200 per person (or was...may have increased).

Boomvang is a nightclub type event

We've always had complimentary premium wifi, so can't answer about regular.

Thank you very much for your replies!

  4. We're sailing on Scarlet Lady 3/24-3/29 Riviera Maya. First time on Virgin, lots of questions! I watched a lot of videos to get an overview of the ship, dining options, etc.  Thanks in advance for answers!

    • We are travelling with a friend who will be in another cabin.  Is the regular WiFi sufficient for using the Virgin App to communicate with your fellow travelers, or should we upgrade?  My hubby and our friend are both technologically challenged, so I need to make sure we can find each other when we're in different places!
    • Is the regular wifi good for using What's App??
    • I saw a few videos about the Tea Service in the afternoon, extra charge $20 ish.  It looks like a lot of food for one person - can we share it??
    • Has anyone seen scones and cream anyplace other than with the tea?
    • Has anyone done the new Bites and Bubbles? What time of day is it usually done?
    • For the Bimini stop: do you know if they have a shuttle from the gangway to catch the tram? (Hubby has a wicked bad back and it looks like a lot of walking to get to it.) This will be our only time getting off the ship.
    • I've read that it can be a challenge to reserve SHOWS:  Has anyone had luck getting reservations after you board, or are they booked up?
    • On the agenda, there is a "Festival Stage" in the Red Room, but what is it?
    • Is LOLz Supper Club a comedy show? with dinner?
    • How much is the "Behind the scenes" tour?
    • What the heck is Boomvang?

    Thanks!

  5. I’m actually on the NCL Encore right now, docking in St. Thomas tomorrow, 4/12/23, and I’d like to see if someone can recommend a good beach via taxi from the cruise dock. The only things we need are  chairs, shade, and a decent bathroom to change in.  And some place with some food and drinks. We have been to St. Thomas before, so I don’t need the tour of the island that the cruise ship is offering.
last time we were there, we rented a taxi that took us to a good beach, but I don’t remember where it was. Recommendations are welcome. Thank you.

I tried to pre-book online this week and couldn’t find anything to click. I did a “chat” and was told I needed to call the Excursions desk to reserve. So I called (and waited) (and got a call back) and was told that clamshells are only available to reserve at a kiosk AFTER boarding. Furthermore, the $50 credit did not apply because this is an equipment rental and not an excursion.

    So, fooey.

    Thanks for the info!

Order on one of the touch screen kiosks in the elevator lobbies. The voucher is delivered to your room. It will keep you dry (the clamshell, not the voucher). If the ship does not make it to GSC due to wind (15 mph winds are marginal for tendering) or seas, you will get a refund.

I personally have never been able to get any of the menus to open from the app.

In the section for DINING, scroll down to the restaurant you want, click on the name.  Then scroll down a little and you'll see "View sample menu" - click on that.  (That works fine, but I wanted a printable version, which another user sent me! )

  9. Hi - sailing on NCL Encore Sunday 4/9-4/16/23 - SOO excited!  Does anyone have a printable version of the specialty restaurants Ocean Blue and Le Bistro?
I tried doing it from the NCL website but the formatting was NOT user friendly.  Also, if you did not prebook, were you able to book a reservation with the specialty restaurants once you boarded? Appreciate the feedback!

There is a fixed portion of 5 (if I remember correctly) choices, and a rotating section of 6 choices. Typically 1 each of beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, fish, and veggie.

The rotating portion is on a 7, 8 or 9 day cycle, depending mainly on the chef staff and food item availability.  This was explained to us by one waiter on our last cruise.  He was surprised that we had a day 8 menu on a 7 day cruise.  The staff skipped days 6 and 7 for days 8 and 9 that cruise.

Of course we wouldn't have known unless he told us.

    Thanks very much!

@Panhandle Couple I don't believe there are set days for any particular menu to be served.  I saw a 'day 3' menu on a day other than day 3 of my cruise on the Escape.  NCL has a rotation of 14 or 21 menus and you could get any one of them on any day of your cruise.

You might have known - if you pull up the bottom of the menu you can see the name, which includes the day # in the rotation.

    Thanks very much!

Hi - I read about the changes to the MDR menus on the Norwegian ships for 2023.  Has anyone been on the Encore recently, and have they changed out the rotating daily menus for a fixed menu every day? TYIA!  We are sailing on 4/9/23 - first vacation in almost 4 years!  WOOHOO!!!

Currently no ships, except Prima, have the fixed menu.

The unlimited plan does not have to log on/off. Just the 150 min plan.

That being said, the unlimited plan is one device at a time. For example, we share on unlimited account across 4 phones (1 personal and 1 work phone each), an iPad, and a laptop.

You will be sharing a slow satellite link with 4000 of your newest friends along with ship’s operations and crew. Don’t expect speed, especially on sea days.

Have a great cruise! We sailed on the Encore on your itinerary last year.

Thank you! I was hoping to have a video chat on What’s App with my daughter, but that might not work too well from what I’m hearing.
