  1. According to Delta, since Covid there are no longer fees to cancel or rebook at a lower price,  We have 9 tickets to Europe this summer on Delta and when I saw a price drop ($350 each) I gave them a call and they were as nice as can be.

Each passenger was given a credit in their name and it needs to be used 1 year from the date of the original purchase.

Not sure about other airlines but the agent made it sound like it was for all airlines.

  2. Hi Roger

Thank you for all the information you are adding to this site. We will be in Palma October 14, 9am -11pm. We are 2 couples and this will be my fourth visit to Palma. We’ve all been on a tour to Sollor and Valldemossa and this time we are thinking about renting a car.
I see you recommended Arash car rental and we are thinking about visiting the caves and driving up the east side of the island.
Do you think this is a good plan or should we stick to the west side of the island. We are just looking for a relaxing day visiting some little villages and enjoying the countryside.
    Thanks

    Linda

While many Old City restaurants might close early in the evening, from my knowledge of the Jewish, Armenian, and Christian quarters, there are plenty of places to eat during the day, local and otherwise. There are also plenty of restaurants right outside the walls or within a short walk, that do not close that early.
Allow me to suggest a few places to go that might not be as well known as other places - and that happen to be above street level:

We have decided to book the Norte Dame Jerusalem Center for our visit. Looks like the perfect hotel for us. Thanks again.

  4. We are planning on going into Jerusalem for 2 nights on a 3 days stop in Israel. We’ve been to Israel on 2 previous cruises and thought it would be fun to spend the extra time in Jerusalem.

My question is choice of restaurants in the Old City. We would like to stay in the Old City but wondering if we will be able to find restaurants. We don’t want fine dining - prefer local places.

    Thank you

  5. We have done this twice when sailing as a family of 16 on NCL. I realize you are asking about HAL but I’ll tell you our experience.

We arranged the rooms because of the “drinks “ package and 2 of the adults don’t drink. After we boarded the ship we just went to the front desk and asked for an additional room key. This key would only open the door to the cabin.  We used our original card to get on and off the ship, purchases, etc.

Very easy - no problems. I did bring a “sharpie” to mark the room only key.

    Hope this helps.

  6. We rented from Ken’s car hire in Invergorden twice this past fall (2018).  They are located a couple of short blocks from the cruise port,  probably about a 5 minute walk.

It’s just a small little building - they were open in the morning but when we returned the car we just dropped the keys in a slot. This was not a big dealership. I’m guessing they just have this location for the convenience of the cruise ships.

    Very pleasant to work with.

  7. We were on the Breakaway last August (2018) and the port was changed after we made our reservation. A couple of days before Stockholm we received a notice in our cabin on how to obtain our transfers at no charge.

We also got OBC for the difference in port charges. I don’t remember exactly how much it was but we were a family of 16 and it added up to quite a bit.

The bus ride into Stockholm was very enjoyable.

Just an FYI.  On some sailings the Explore 4 promotion is now available.  My PCC brought it to my attention as our NS Norway 2020 sailing has the offer.  We got extra OBC, drink package and a PG dinner with no change in price.

Thank you. I just had this applied to our 24 day NA sailing on September 7, 2020.

  9. We just finished our Baltic cruise and used TJ Travel for both Berlin and St Petersburg. We’re are family of 16 that included 8 grandchildren ages 4-18 years.

Our St Petersburg guide was, Oksana, and she was wonderful with the children. She always included them when she was telling us the stories and history of St Petersburg.

TJ Travel was easy to work with and all our correspondences were answered very quickly.

St Petersburg is definitely a highlight of the Baltic cruise and using a tour company like TJ Travel is important in getting the most out of your visit.

  10. Our son’s family stayed in cabin 6535 and we were across the hall with their 3rd child. The cabin is very large and they didn’t mention any noise.

We were also on a very port intense Mediterranean cruise but the kids did enjoy the pool in the back of the ship. We made time for the pool everyday when we returned to the ship.

Not sure which I would choose. If lots of space is important to you, go for 6535 - it was a great cabin. This cabin was very close to the Blue Lagoon Cafe (deck 7) that we would occasionally go to.

  11. We were on the NCL Spirit in June, 2014 and I’m pretty sure it was during World Cup Soccer. There were big screen TVs all over the ship and soccer was on all the time.

My son and grandsons were with us and they were thrilled with the coverage.

    This was a Mediterranean cruise.

  12. We will be in Stockholm in August with our family (8 grandchildren) and one granddaughter has an interesting request.

She has an American Girl doll by the name of Kirsten that has a Swedish heritage. My granddaughter is wondering if there are any stores in Stockholm that might have Swedish accessories or clothes for her 18 inch Kirsten doll.

    Thanks for any help.

  13. Hello Desdichados62

We will be in Stockholm in August with our family (8 grandchild) and one granddaughter has an interesting request.

In the US there is a doll company called American Girl and they have a Swedish girl (doll) by the name of Kirsten. My granddaughter is wondering if there are any toy stores in Stockholm that might have Swedish accessories or clothes for her 18 inch Kirsten doll.

    Thanks for any help.

  14. Both the metro and the airport train run at night and some busses has night schedules. But if you land at 10 PM then most services runs at the normal evening schedule, the night schedule usually starts at around midnight and 1 AM.

You have 2 options for traveling to Steel House that are located very close to Vesterport S-train station.

If you take the metro you just get off at Nørreport and take any southbound S-train one stop further to Vesterport.

Or if you take the airport train you get off at København H (central station) walk to track 9 and 10 and take any northbound S-train one stop further to Vesterport.

Thank you for this information. Can you tell me which if these options has the least amount of stairs or which would be the easiest with a stroller.

Thanks again for all the time you take with our questions.

  15. First of all,...thank you very much for your input! You didn’t mention which ship you were on...was it Divina or Seaside?

I gathered from your post that you didn’t cruise YC. I’ve read on CC from many contributors that if you’re considering MSC and you can afford it, the YC is the only way to go! Otherwise MSC can be a disappointment. Sorry you had such a downer for a cruise experience.

I would suggest you look at NCL for a family cruise. I’m not sure what their itineraries are for 2020 but they have good ones in 2019.

We have taken grandchildren to Europe on both land trips and cruises and the kids have loved all the ruins in the Eastern Med area. I would start or end in Rome so you can spend a few extra days there.

This August we are taking our family of 16 (including 8 grandchildren ages 4-18) to the Baltic on the NCL Breakaway. This size ship wouldn't be our first choice but the dates were right and all the kids think it will be great.

Whatever you decide, it will be a wonderful experience.

  16. For some Terminal changes it can make sense to use the Underground. The journey is free between Heathrow stations, but you need Oyster or contactless to access and leave the stations.

This does not apply here, as Bob has described. The situation is complicated because of the Heathrow (one-way) loop on the tube.

Thank you. All of you British folks that write here are a huge asset to this board - I knew I’d get a good answer here.

  17. No need for Oysters - they are only required if you use the London Underground Trains.

Free shuttle trains run between Heathrow Central station (Terminals 2 & 3) and Terminal 4, There are four trains an hour.

To get from T4 to T5, take bus number 482 or 490 (destination: Heathrow Terminal 5) from Bus Stop 7 for a free transfer between terminals.

The details are here - http://www.heathrow.com/airport-guide/getting-around-heathrow/travel-between-terminals

Thank you so much for this information. Not sure why I was so confused about the Oyster Card but now it is very clear.

  18. I’m trying to figure out how to get between Terminals 3 and 4 at LHR and would appreciate any info.

Our son and his family are arriving at 10:45pm on an American Airlines flight (terminal 3) and they have reservations at the Premier Inn in terminal 4. They leave out of terminal 5 the next day. I understand they could take the Heathrow Connect and it is free if they have an Oyster card.

What if they don’t have an Oyster Card? Can they buy tickets and how much are they? We could give them our Oyster cards but there are still 3 children (11-15 years). Can you buy Oyster cards where you catch the Heathrow Connect? They will need the cards for later in their trip.

Are there taxis between the 2 terminals and will they take 5 passengers plus luggage? Is there a bus?

Sorry for all these questions but I’d like to give them some good directions so they are not trying to figure it out late at night.

Thanks so much for any help.
