  1. Congrats Staci!! I've been in maintenance since October but I'm going on a cruise in 3 wks so have gone back on the 5 & 1 (even coaches go off plan occasionally too! HA) I'm on the right track and feeling better than I have for a few months. So I would love to get down another 5-10 lbs before we leave. Another 4 lbs and I will have lost 40% of my body weight :-) HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!

  2. I hope everyone is having a great summer and on track with you weight loss. Don't let vacations and cruises railroad your progress! If you take a week off from weight loss for your cruise - get right back on plan the day you get home!

Looking forward to my 30th anniversary cruise in Feb 2013 :)

  3. Oh I forgot to respond to the "sweets" - for me Hot Cocoa is a GREAT Chocolate craving cure :-) Also the Chocolate Crunch bars are excellent! I can go down the Walmart candy aisle (or any store for that matter) now and it doesn't bother me at all! You'll get there - be persistent and stay commited to your weight loss goals!!

okay after my first debacle with pancakes, I made them again today (no sticking, thanks PAM). Had them with 1 tbsp Cary's sugar free syrup and a little cinnamon. I felt like I was eating regular pancakes. Very pleased.

It feels good to be detoxing from all the sugar I was eating - my problem has never been meals - it's sweets. The candy aisle in Walgreens is like porn to me. LOL.

  4. I could never get the pancakes to turn out right so I make them into muffins - spray a large coffee mug with PAM, put the mix (already mixed with water) into the mug and pop into the microwave for about 1 min, 15 secs. It's GREAT! The chocolate chip pancakes are DA BOMB!!

  5. Veggies aren't bad are they :-) I even eat salad now without dressing sometimes because my tastes have changed so much I just love the flavors of raw veggies!

Having a coach helps you in that we always contact you once a week for your weigh in.....helps us all stay accountable. I use a ticker on my emails so I can always see just how far I've come and how only a little further til I reach goal. You can get them on the Medifast support board. Weighing is not a bad thing but when you let every little ounce throw you into a depression it's not healthy. As long as you aren't living your life by what the scales say you're doing good :-) Keep it up!!

Thank you Delia! I can't believe I ate veggies this week that weren't carrots and corn. Hunger will do that to ya! But it's going pretty well.

I sat and really went through the program so I know a little better what I'm doing, what I'm supposed to eat (calorie/carb-wise). I'm motivated. I know I shouldn't but I got on the scale this morning (I've always been an every-day weigher when I'm trying to lose - but I don't let to rule how I think - it's just part of my day). I was down 4 pounds. yay.

  6. Read your Quick Start Guide cover to cover and keep it with you so you will have the L&G info and amounts with you until you get used to it. It eventually becomes 2nd nature.

The difference in this & Atkins.....Atkins is a DIEt and TSFL/MF is a healthy nutrition program. You learn the Habits of Health...try to participate in the weekly support calls - the numbers are in the back of the QSG.

You are allowed to have dressing. Use reduced fat dressings as they are better than fat free nutrition wise. Ask for dressing on the side then dip your fork in it then into the salad.

I know that having a coach helps you in that you can turn to him/her when you have questions & problems. Take Shape For Life is the health coach division of Medifast so we are all in the same company and we all do the program the same way. TSFL gives you a free extra means of support w/ a coach.

I've been on the program for 13 1/2 months now - I've lost 122 lbs and I just knew it was meant for me to help others. I think it was a given that I would start coaching and it is immensely rewarding to know that I've made a difference in someone's life. I'll be glad to help any of you and that's why I'm here :-) I still have about 40 or 45 lbs to reach my healthy BMI weight so I'm still on this journey with you.

    Have a great onplan day~

I lost 60 pounds on Atkins and over about 2 years, gained half of it back. I just couldn't seem to get back into it again. I started MF 3 weeks ago. It is going really well, and most of the food isn't bad at all, for diet food. The problem is that I lost 8 pounds within the first few days and then nothing. I have stuck with the diet pretty faithfully, but may go a little over on the lean and green. For example, I can't get used to salad without dressing, so I do have dressing but try to find lower carb varieties. Please tell me that that I WILL eventually lose more weight. I still need to lose another 50 - 60 pounds, but I'm getting discouraged.
  7. I forgot to tell you that the foods are all interchangable as theyhave the same nutritional value - you could eat chili for breakfast and oatmeal for supper if you want.

Look at your Quick Start Guide that came with your food - there is a page in there that lists your optional snacks (If I could I would give you the website but CC won't allow it). I'm a coach w/TSFL - Medifast with a free health coach.

If you have food you don't like if the boxes are unopened you can return them for exchange or credit. Check your invoice for the info and have your Client ID # handy when you call - they'll ask for it.

Figure out your fueling times. Say you get up at 5 AM so you should eat within 30 min to an hour. Figure 6, 9, 12,3,6,9 9Adjust these times to your schedule. Figure out when you have your L&G and that can be anytime of the day you want it. Now you need 4 boxes of food for the other 5 fuelings. Figure 4 breakfast things, 8 Snacks (4 for morning, 4 for afternoon) and 4 for lunch and 4 for evening. That will help you judge what you need and what you might want to send back.

You have made a great lifechanging decision! You can do this :-)

Hi there! I just started MF. I'm on day 2 and hungry, but that's to be expected. I did ww and lost a ton of weight and through nobody's fault but my own, I gained it back. I like WW and it definitely works. You can't stop tracking and eat milk duds and think you'll be skinny.

I wish I would have read a little more because I did place my order sort of impulsively. I thought you had to order from each section and now I wish I ordered more bars and shakes vs. eggs and pancakes. So next month I'll know better.

Can you tell me more about TSFL? It's medifast also?

I have 9 months until my cruise and 4 months until my trip to WDW. I'd like to be down a decent amount by then.

  9. It is absolutely one of the best motivators there is to buy those much smaller sizes and being taken off different meds for your ailments after decades!! Best thing I've ever done for myself :-)

    Delia Fuller McLaughlin

has been 10 weeks now and I have lost 48 1/2 # and wife has lost 37, so color us believers. Still quite a way to go, but at this point I'm aiming to have 100 # off by our Dec cruise.

Quite a motivator to go in and buy slacks that are 6" smaller. *S*

  10. I'm guessing you didn't have a coach to give you tips on meal prep hahaha - you have to hydrate some of the soups/chili/stew so it won't be crunchy. I always send my clients a two page tip sheet :D

    Good luck on your diet!

Hi everyone! Just want to add another vote for MF. I am not on it (as I said down thread somewhere) but I had great success on it. If you truly want to lose weight it will really work for you. I tried like hell to make it "click" for me again and I just couldn't manage to pull together a string of days- but that is me, right now. Not the program. So I had a couple of autoships that had arrived when we were cruising and I sold them on Craigslist to a very nice (heavy) woman. Well we ended up talking for about an hour then- she had ordered a two week package and was about ten days in. She had a lot of questions but was BEAMING with happiness at the weight she had lost, how she felt, and most of all, newfound confidence in HERSELF. It was truly a delight and she brought me back to my former very successful MF days.

She has called me a few times since then and I have given her pep talks and told her how to make the chili taste less like rocks ;).

So even though I am not on it (tried WW again until I realized I was eating nothing but carbs and had never been hungrier) I don't want any of you to think I had put down the MF life in a prior post.

I bought the book "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes- great book, even if you are on MF- in fact, especially if you are on MF! So I have slipped back into Atkins very easily and I am off to a very good start after ten days.

    Good luck, everyone!

  11. Thank you so much Nick! Here's the thing - if you are not ready to commit to health and make some changes, NOTHING is going to work for you. Take Shape For Life (Medifast with a free Health Coach) is a lifestyle change - we don't stay on it FOREVER - we get our initial weight off and then go thru 6 wks of transition then into maintenance.

Actually TSFL is cost neutral so you don't have to worry about your budget so much - you already buy food in the grocery store or as you say eating out so you instead buy the food from the company. PLUS the foods have all the daily required vitamins/minerals in them. You will have more energy than you've had in years! (and YES you can eat out while on the program - we do it a lot!!)

I have several clients who have had unsuccessful lap bands however they are getting the pounds and inches off safely and effectively with TSFL. I personally never had gastric surgery - although I considered it for about 10 minutes. I started at an all time high weight of 313 lbs and my being confined to a wheelchair didn't help either. I'm now down 122 lbs in 13 months and feel FANTASTIC!! If I could walk, I would run :-)

If you need any other questions answered I'll be glad to help answer them.

Good luck on your path to Optimal Health!

    Delia Fuller McLaughlin

    Welcome to MF.

I guess the biggest tip I can give is be ready for the change and embrace all of the things the program has to share. I love the educational pieces that come along with it. Read Dr. A's book and really practice the habits of health. Have you ordered your first month yet?

DW and I have felt like it has been effortless, but I understand there has to be a certain amount of self control. Write out your health goals and realize those goals are the things that you are working towards. Back in February of 2011 I lost my mom because of complications with weight. Once I found this program I have used that single "why" to keep me focused so much so that I love my new saying "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". Since that time I have lost 131 pounds :D

Do you have a health coach? If not I would say getting one would be excellent because they can help you keep on track (for free). I know Deliamc is a health coach and sounds like a great one.

Very best of luck in your journey and we are all here for you.

  12. Oh gosh NICK! That is AWESOME :-) May I share your picture on Facebook?

Deliamc, you sound like a wonderful health coach. Keep on paying it forward and helping America get healthy.

I am now down 117 in 28 weeks. I attached a photo from a few weeks back just to share. I love this habit changing plan!!! :D

  13. I didn't mean that to sound as if only morbidly obese people are the only ones who use TSFL/MF - we have clients who only need to lose 20-30 lbs - to them that's a lot. To someone like me it's not. But TSFL is safe for virtually ANYONE - there are a few exceptions and your coach can help you determine if you might be one of them!

    Hey Malibubaby

I'm a health coach w/Take Shape For Life so i can answer all that. TSFL is the health coach division of Medifast. When you need the extra guidance that's when you want the free coach that TSFL gives you. We used the Medifast meal replacements so there's no difference in cost. And yes there are people who do it on their own and do well. It's all up to the individual.

I've been on the program for just over a year and have lost 122 lbs. I still have about 43 more to go. The thing to know is that MF/TSFL is NOT a DIEt! It's a HEALth program - using the MMRs (Medifast Meal Replacements) helps those of us who are so morbidly obese we are desperate for a change. Thankfully I am NOT morbidly obese anymore - I started at 313 lbs.

And for dealing with the real world with TSFL you eat 6 times a day (not sure if you've looked in to the program to know all the details) so you're not hungry. Also your body enters a fat burning state where it uses its own fat for energy and that helps control the hunger too.

As far as the "cheating" and cookouts etc - before you go into the program you need to decide what you really want. If you are a regular drinker, you will not go into fat burning which is what causes the rapid weight loss and increased energy. If you have ONE drink once a month, you will probably be okay. I would say give yourself a few weeks before you have any kind of event that is all about food so that you will be stronger and not as likely to be tempted.

Hi all! I am considering joining Medifast (it is one of the last diets left that I haven't done yet :p). I just have a few questions: I am confused re the difference between the Take Shape for Life and the Medifast center ( I have one very close to me). Is it more expensive to go to one over the other. It also seems that some people just order the food and do it on their own.

Also was wondering how you all deal with the real world with some kind of holiday or event every couple weeks. Tis the season for cookouts and friends invitations for happy hours.:p Do you cheat? and if you do does it completely undo all your weeks worth of hard work? I know it sounds odd to worry about cheating before you start, but I am realistic and know occasionally I will have an adult beverage and this stuff is expensive! Any tips or advice you all can give would be appreciated. I'm just trying to get a sense if this will be a good fit for me. Thanks!!

  15. Why are you giving up? Is it not working? Do you have a health coach who can help you? If not, I'm a c oach and would be honored to help in anyway I can. I do know this program is not for everyone though but for those who have stuck with it, we have had simply amazing results.

If your products are less than 30 days old you can return them to the company for credit. Call Client Services and give them your Client ID #. Also there may be support groups in your area that has food swaps. Our group has them once a month.

If you would like more info on what you can do, please contact me DeliaMcLaughlin at teamtsfl dot com

If anyone is interested in buying my packets and bars, email me below.

Good luck and Happy Easter! :)

  16. I tried Optifast in the mid 80s and it was only shakes. I couldn't handle it! When I first heard Medifast my mind went back in time and I turned it down. About a year ago, I decided to try it - we have over 70 different choices now so it's not just shakes, bars and powdered soup. We have pancakes, brownies, cookies, chili, pretzels....and we eat one "real" meal called a Lean & Green and still have a calorie count of between 850 & 1000 plus all the nutrition your body needs. I'm LOVING IT! I've lost 118 lbs in less than a year (11 months and 16 days) and feel FANTASTIC!! Good luck in your journey Mike & wife :-)

Didn't read thru all of this, but wife and I as we approached mid 60s decided that it was time to shape up, so started a program called Optifast a month ago. It is run thru local hospitals and involves medical supervison, a behavioral therapist and a physical therapist. There are 3 options for meals: a powdered shake mix, nutrition bars and 2 flavors of a powdered soup mix (chicken or tomato). You consume 2 of each item a day for a total of 6 "meals". Total calorie count per day is 960.

Will tell you that I have tried any number of diets over the years and this is the first one I have been on where I didn't feel hungry and have cravings all the time. We've been on it 4 weeks now and I've lost 26 pounds and wife has lost 22. We do this part for a total of 12 weeks and then for the following 12 weeks we reintroduce food in place of 1 of these "meals" every 2 weeks until by the end of week 24 overall we are back to eating, not what we used to eat, but healthy, reasoned choices. So we shall see.

Will tell you that I was an adult onset diabetic and am now off all diabetes meds and my sugars are running in the mid 90s.

My goal is to have at least 75 pounds off by our Dec HAL cruise to celebrate my 65th birthday. Imagine that my wife won't be far behind me.

Congrats and good luck to all of you in your efforts.

I'll stop back in from time to time to update you on our progress.

  17. That is SO AWESOME!!! Congrats to you :-) Feb 10, 2012 was 10 months for me and I'm down 115 lbs. I still have 50 to go to my goal BMI weight. My son graduates from high school in May and I would SO LOVE to be there by then :-)

We cruise on the Carnival Magic in 2 wks and I will go on Medifast Vacay. Last time I only gained 1 lb so hopefully this time I will do just as good if not better :-)

Well...it's been awhile since I have been on the board, but today I am happy to say that February 17th was 7 months on MF and I am down 120 pounds! I reached my original goal and now have adjusted my goal for another 20 pound loss. Then I think I will be at the weight that I will be able to maintain.

Going on our Caribbean cruise in April will be right about the time that I should be at goal, so it should be an interesting trip for me. :D

  18. How is everyone doing?

Today is my 10 month anniversary on TSFL. This morning I was down 2 more lbs for a total of 115 - I finally weigh out of the 200's - I was 198 :-D Monday is our 29th wedding anniv and as of right now I am planning on splurging at my fave Japanese Restaurant. I splurged in August at my 51st b'day at the same place :-)

My cruise is 3 wks away and I am planning on taking a few of my MF faves with me such as the Calorie Burn Cappuccino (not to burn calories but bec I LOVE IT! and probably a few bars or puffs so I can eat them on the go) The weather in Galveston lately has been extremely foggy and the ship has not been allowed in port until extremely late - don't want to sit around hungry and miserable!

I wish you guys all the best in your weight loss journey! Hope to keep in touch with you! If you're on Facebook, look me up - Delia Fuller McLaughlin.

  19. I have a new client who started today - I made sure to warn her because I know day 1 is usually ok but it's day 2 that will kick your butt!!

I don't remember how long til your cruise but my next one is 31 days away on the Magic. I started this program April 2011 to try and lose a little weight before our family cruise in July 2011. WOW I did NOT expect to lose it that fast but when you are really heavy you're gonna lose it quickly in the beginning. So I decided from the start that I was NOT going to do the program the 7 days we were gone. I did follow the principles of eating breakfast EVERY day and then trying to eat something every 2-3 hours. I did NOT watch what I ate but had salad every night w/my entree.

Now you can choose to do the same thing - it's all up to you and how you want to handle it. Of course I couuld not WAIT to get back home and back on the products bec I think I was lagging behind all week :-) That was the yucky food and drinks but I only gained 1 lb and that's the ONLY lb I've gained in almost 10 mos.

Thank you so much and I really am rocking on it with no probs as of now. First three days were rough but they are well in the rear view mirror now! A little worried abut the cruise but what can I do? Don't worry, you were certainly not offending me whatsoever! There was someone on here with one post who was trying to advertise the fact that she was a TSFL coach and her post was removed pretty quickly. But thanks for your help and I just may take you up on it!
  20. I'm just trying to help a fellow Medi-Faster - not trying to spam or advertise at all. Thanks for your response and I wish you well on the program. It really works when you stay committed as you have seen - I have lost 111 lbs since April 2011.

    Good luck

Thank you but I am doing very well now. On a roll! MF worked very well for me in the past and I am really flying on it now. Weight loss isn't exactly earth shattering but it IS going down, which is good.

I just want to caution you that your post might be seen as advertising and therefore a violation of CC's TOS.

  21. Carla do you have a coach? It sounds to me just from your posts that you could use some help with the foods and the program itself.

Have you gotten the Habits of Health System? I feel like these books are CRUCIAL to your success on the program and maybe that's why you haven't been "getting it" and going back and forth.

The constant trying this and trying that and losing 5 lbs here and there but then gaining it back is stalling your metabolism. Do you ha ve any health issues to consider?

Please get with your coach to talk this through - I would love to see you be totally SUCCESSFUL and where you WANT to be by cruisetime! If you don't have a coach, I would happy to help you! Send me an email to DeliaMcLaughlin@teamtsfl.com if you want help.

    Good luck :)

    Thank you so much!

I am really hoping the "getting back into ketosis" thing is not too harsh. God knows I've done it enough times... I was on and off Atkins time and again years ago. I really am stressing the dieting brick wall that this cruise is going to be. I do recall bringing packets on a cruise once: what a joke. So my latest rationalization is this: by eating normally but not crazily, and by exercising, I will jump start my metabolism, then go back on MF the day I get back. Hmm.

Things are still going fine. Weight loss- not great. 5 pounds in 2 weeks with 60 to lose (tho 40 would put me into about ten suits and a million items of casual clothes I own). But it's better than going UP, which I was doing weekly before. I have been on WW three times since 1/1. Isagenix once. Juicing fast once. The only thing that works in the long haul is MF because it requires total abstinence. Hanging over my head is the dread od three days getting back into it, so if I cheat it's with more.... Fish. ;)

I finally got the soft serve down perfectly and I only have one left. I put in an order over the weekend for more oatmeal and bars and could kick myself for not ordering more soft serve. Actually loving the pancakes I mocked. Peanut butter bars still shockingly vile and the brownies have been put into the back of the box.

I'm finding that coffee has approximately 20 times the normal kick. Yesterday I had about ten cups- long, long lunch, waitress kept refilling.... Omg I was flying. Today: less. Also upped my water intake greatly. I've been slacking on it- no more. I would like to have lost 15 before the cruise (so I can gain ten back). Seriously, WTH.:o

  22. Just don't do what I did and buy them too soon or they will SWALLOW you before you get to wear them!

Our cruise is March 4th so I'm not buying new ones til mid February!! At least they will fit good during the week I'm on the cruise!

I am absolutely LOVING being a coach for this wonderful program - it's a life changer and I love helping/watching others transform themselves into a healthier, new version.

I've lost 104 and still have about 60 to go before I hit my goal weight....I'm pulling for the end of February but if not then, it will happen :-)

Happy, healthy New Year to everyone!

    Dee

  23. I started Take Shape For Life (MF with a coach) in April for a cruise I had end of July. I began the program knowing I would NOT do MF during the week of the cruise. I ate everything my hub ate (he was not on program at the time) even mid afternoon snacks and coffees, midnight hamburgers & ice cream even after our 6 PM supper. The difference was that I made sure I had breakfast every morning and ate something every 3 hours.

When the cruise was over, my hub had gained 12 lbs. I had only gained 1 lb. I have now lost 104 as of last week and hub has lost 35 and in maintenance already. I became a Certified Health Coach in August!!

I love the difference this program has made in my life - I no longer take BP meds after 33 yrs and I no longer have aching knees from osteo arthritis (I don't take meds for them any more either!)

I wish you well on your MF journey AND on your cruise! Keep us posted :-)

I'll be on John Heald's bloggers cruise March 4-11 on the Magic and should be really close to goal by then!!

Jeez...I cracked myself up with the title.:D I swear I've got the sense of humor of a third-grade boy.

Today is my first day on MF. I did a similar program in 2005. Lost 100 lbs. Managed to keep off almost half of that since. I was inspired to try MF by the newly discovered arthritis in one of my knees and my boss, who's lost almost 50 lbs. I've done WW so many times, I should be a Leader. Well, except for the whole not getting to Goal thing.

The first week or so will be a real challenge but once I get in the habit, I should be okay. I'm working the program directly with my local MF center.

For those of you who have already sailed while on MF, can you share your experiences? Hints/tips? My cruise isn't for a few months but there's no time like the present to get mentally prepared, right?

  24. ncovert that is SO AWESOME!! I know you are very proud as well you should be :-) My hub has had his BP meds cut in half and after 33 yrs, I've been taken off mine completely.

I've been struggling this week with an impacted colon - very painful! (Make sure you drink your water!!) But I decided to go ahead and weigh today - another 4 lbs GONE for a total of NINETY THREE!!!!!!!!!! YAY ME and TSFL!!

Are you on the Facebook Medifast page? Lots of good info and recipes and supportive folks on there! You should try it :-)

    Have a great weekend!

  25. Hi Karen - Please contact me at Legalease0213@aol.com to help you on the Medifast plan. I am a Certified Health Coach and my services are free to you. I can help save you money and help with questions and concerns about the program. As far as exercising goes, unless you have been exercising you shouldn't start for about 3 wks on the program as your body needs time to adjust to the lower calories intake.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

    HEY EVERYONE!!!

CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCESS WITH MEDIFAST!! I'VE BEEN WANTING TO TRY IT BUT AFRAID IT MAY TASTE TERRIBLE. i'VE DONE NUTRISYSTEM AND JENNY CRAIG. JENNY CRAIG'S FOOD WAS GOOD BUT NUTRISYSTEM'S TASTE WAS NOT GOOD. BUT THE WEIGHT LOSS WITH MEDIFAST SEEMS INCREDIBLE. EVEN IT IS A BIT PRICY MAYBE I'LL JUST GET THE 2 WEEK PACKAGE AND SEE HOW IT GOES. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO START OFF RIGHT, EXERCISING WHILE ON THE PLAN OR ANY SUGGESTIONS IN GENERAL? I JUST LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT EVERYTHING BEFORE I MAKE THE INVESTMENT. THANK YOU!!:D
