Yes, they do have hairdryers in every room, however if you have long or thick hair they take forever to dry your hair and do a very poor job. In addition, they require the user to continually press the power button to get airflow. It means either a cramped hand or you have to rig the dryer with a thick rubber band or duct tape to keep the button depressed.

My Dyson has been on at least a half dozen cruises with no performance issues ever.

My Dyson is UK voltage is yours? That's why mine won't work I've been advised not to take it. I am sailing on the Emerald Princess in June apparently the ship voltage is not compatible 😩

This is why I’ve never brought mine on a cruise—I’m afraid somehow I’d fry it!  And back when we had to fly to the port, I was afraid of theft (I’ve had items disappear from my luggage).

Glad they both worked when you got home!

I'm really pleased they worked for you when you got home. I'm not taking the chance and I will miss using it. I have bought a curling wand with 3 changeable barrels to curl my hair it was reduced to £59 then got a further 10% off

Reduced from £110. It is dual voltage so I will take this instead of my airwrap. For the price of the airwrap it should be dual voltage

Curious how the hair dryer is? We have the vacuum, but have an issue payment that much for a hairdryer.

Honestly I was sceptical about it too. But I love it my hairdresser said my hair is in great condition no heat damage. It is worth every penny takes no time to dry my hair so quick and it always looks styled. I have been converted 🤣

Can you not fly from Newcastle anymore. Long Drive or Coach journey

yes we can fly I have checked the flight times and we do not fancy hanging around southampton all day on our return as flights are later on. Plus I am not a light packer :classic_biggrin:

Interesting. I hadn't even thought of asking about parking. We've always used CPS as we like the convenience of having the car there at the terminal car park but  as long as any car parking options are secure, then it's down to personal choice.

Yeah I thought I would just ask I am pleased I did. Hotel room was £225 on flexi booking just incase the cruise got cancelled we could cancel room. Parking at hotel is £72 for 12 nights so £297 in total. Holiday Inn was £150 and £140 for CPS total £290. Coach was £266 return plus £50 in taxi fares to coach and home total £316. So I decided on the harbour hotel as it worked out the best deal. I think the price puts people off but with the parking it's actually a great deal and a better hotel too 😁

Would be interested to know this too. Where did you see the offer?

I rang the hotel and I asked about 1 night accommodation and parking while on our cruise.

Harbour Hotel and Spa. No contest. Parking is free and they will valet park the car for you if you want. When you’re ready to depart, it’s a 2 min drive to the cruise terminal and having pre booked CPS parking, you just unload the car and hand the keys over.

We have booked Harbour hotel for the night before our cruise. We also have the option of leaving our car with the hotel for £6pd. They said they will take our car to the multi storey facing they have a dedicated floor just for the hotel with cctv cameras. The public cannot enter this floor unless they are staying at the hotel. They said they could drive us to the cruise port and drop us off  and when we let them know our time for disembarkation they will collect us and our car will be waiting for us at the hotel. I am still undecided to leave our car at the hotel or use CPS the difference is £70 to use CPS

Thank you for your new thread on the Ask a Cruise Question forum.  However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your question concerns a specific port and off topic on that forum. To help you out, I have moved your thread to the British Isles/Western Europe forum where it will be on topic.

And don't forget, after your cruise be sure to submit your review for publication by Cruise Critic. Many cruisers will benefit from your experience!  emo49.gif See How To: Submit a Member Review.

Hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!  emo35.gif

Again, the problems I have heard reported about using a Dyson product onboard are not due to the voltage, and nearly every single cruise ship will have a 220v outlet at the desk, as well as 110v ones.  But, the problem comes, even when you use the proper voltage, that the ground and neutral are not at the same potential, and this affects the electronics of the appliance, which is looking for the two to be at the same potential, as they are on land.

Ah thank you I think I will just leave it at home not worth the risk

I have had flat irons and curling irons stop working and had to replace them when traveling abroad.

Even though I had the right converters/adapters.

    Use at your own risk.

Hi lady I spoke to through Princess thought there were 220v sockets under the bed. I will take it with me and ask the cabin steward. If there is no 220v socket in the cabin then I won't chance using it.

It would be cheaper to schedule an appt. in the beauty salon...just sayin'.

Hi my thoughts were exactly the same as yours about the dyson airwrap. A friend of mine had one and kept raving about it. QVC had an offer on it so I bought it as I could use it for 30 days and if I did not like it I could return it for a full refund. I thought it was all hype too. But after getting used to using it surprisingly I loved it and I style my hair in no time and it does what it says it looks like I have been to a hair salon every time I use it. Also my hair is in great condition too due to the heat protection. So I now don't knock anything until I've tried it. I could go to the salon I know that but I wouldn't need to if I could use my airwrap. It has also saved me money as I don't go to the hairdressers as often as I did 😁

  12. Thank you everyone for your advice. Looks like my airwrap will be staying home. As you say its too expensive to try and use it. It's such a shame that dyson did not make them dual voltage as the US and Canada has the same problem in UK and Europe. They are expensive hair products that should have a dual voltage. I never ever thought it would make a difference to my hair styling but it has its amazing I will miss  using it 😩

Okay, unlike most hair care appliance manufacturers, Dyson does not produce "dual voltage" (can plug into anything from 100-250v) devices.  So, a US made Dyson will require a transformer as well as an outlet converter to work in Europe.  A UK made Dyson (the OP), may work on a ship with the outlet converter linked, in the 220v outlet.  I say might work, as I am not familiar with the UK Dyson products, but I have heard reports of US Dyson products not working on ships.  This is because both US and UK/European electrical systems, the "neutral" wire and the "ground" wire are at the same voltage, while on ships this is not the case.  I believe that some of the electronics in the Dyson devices that convert the incoming power for the digital motors, requires that the neutral and ground be at the same voltage.

Thank you im very disappointed that I may not be able to use my airwrap. Really annoying that Dyson did not add a dual voltage especially as their products are expensive 😩

  14. Hi I have a Dyson airwrap bought in the UK we are cruising on Emmerald Princess. Does anyone know if it would be possible to use this convertor adaptor  so  I can use my airwrap on the ship?

Due to the way the heavy duty plug is designed, it looks like I won't be able to plug in my Dyson hairdryer with the desk outlets that are enclosed.  The bathroom outlet also looks very close to the counter, making it not useable either.  Is there another outlet in a Sky Suite or Celebrity Suite that will allow me to plug in my hairdryer? TIA

I know how you feel I  too have a Dyson airwrap and very disappointed if i cannot use on our cruise. I never thought i would love using it so much. I have seen this convertor on Boots website do you think it would work? I have added the link below

  16. I would only ever consider a day pass in future. I ended up being refunded £90 after the third time I used it I just thought 'I don't think I want to come in here again' ☹️

Thanks Florry i think i will only ever try a day pass in future too after this experience hope you had a great time on Britannia otherwise we really enjoyed it and net some lovely people :D I have felt the cold though since we have come back

  17. Hi we done a 13 night cruise on Britannia 30th September to 13th October our formal nights were 2nd October our second sea day the captain introduces himself and the management of the crew, 4th October we were at Madeira, 9th October sea day this was our black and white night, 11th October we were at Vigo I hope this helps.

  18. I found exactly the same - we probably met! In addition to your accurate observations there were male attendants, although they knock twice it is completely open plan. If you are in the shower you don't hear anyone knocking and the towel hooks are on the outside, so there is a risk of someone being traumatised for life - and I doubt it would be me [emoji6]There is a towel hook in the disabled shower but the overhead shower wasn't working only the hose. All in all, it ends up being quite stressful and annoying as oppose to bring a relaxing experience - I like to read on a device which meant I couldn't use any of the rooms without going to reception and queuing to have it locked up then queuing to get it back, it's ridiculous. In the end I asked for my money back and I only paid what I thought was fair.

Hi Florry I forgot about the male attendants in ladies changing room I found that odd too especially as you say how open plan it is. I am pleased you got your money back I wish I had complained did you get money back at end of the cruise or beginning if beginning did they let you use the spa still just so I know for future cruise I will not accept that standard next time. A woman complained as I was leaving one day she was taken away from the spa reception desk that was the day the spa was cluttered with towels the floor was soaking wet with pools of water the seats were coveted in used towels and dressing gowns and the ladies toilets were out of order. I was very surprised at the mess at times the spa was in it looked very untidy on princess it was never like that. I think £250 Is a bit pricey for what you get it was £112 with princess they did not have the hydropool but their saunas were much better and you also had a bowl of fruit which was filled often as well as water you could have herbal teas too. I'm not sure if I would use the spa again if I went on Britannia

  19. Hi Florry is right about the prices for thermal suite. It was very annoying about the lockers also the ladies toilets were out of order a lot too they have 3 toilets and a disabled toilet and one day all of them were out of order we were told we had to go on next floor up to use the toilets by the peninsular resteraunt 😔 also at times there were used towels lying everywhere the floors were always soaking with water from the hydropool which makes them very slippy. Did you find this Florry when you used the spa? We had a power cut one day and all the saunas were not working. We enjoyed our time I'm the spa but for the money you pay you do not expect the above things I mentioned. We sailed on the emerald princess last year and we paid £112 per couple for our 2 weeks cruise. Their spa was always kept immaculate very tidy so I was very surprised at the standard on Britannia. The first few days the spa was busy but later in our cruise it quietened off on our last day we had the spa in the afternoon to ourselves for at least 2 hours I think people were packing I done ours in the morning. I am sure you will enjoy it the mosaic stone beds and water beds were my favourite and the hot steam room. My husband was always in the hydropool. Enjoy

  20. Hi we were on Britannia on 30th September to 13th October we were charged £250 for the thermal suite for the duration of our cruise 13 nights. I hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise we had a great time on Britannia she is a beautiful ship. The entertainment was fantastic do not miss the shows the dance team perform gravity, once upon a time and sound of the underground are amazing.
