Yes, that's my point. Motu Mahana only happens on the day we're in Taha'a. Which is why I suggest skipping the drift snorkel in Taha'a and instead, snorkeling on one of the days in Bora Bora, so you won't miss any of Motu Mahana.

Perhaps you thought I mean the PG's private motu on Bora Bora? Just to be clear, there are no real services on the Bora Bora private motu. It's just a beautiful beach. No bbq, no water sports, no boozy coconut drinks served to you in the water from the floating bar. 🙂

Oh it's WONDERFUL! It's a gorgeous little island, and this is the PG's private beach on it. They set up an enormous BBQ chock full of a wide variety of delicious local delicacies, and serve drinks all day long, including from a floating bar. There are plenty of beach loungers, and they bring a bunch of water sports equipment that you can use all day (kayaks, paddle boards). There's live Polynesian music, volleyball games, and Gauguins are always there showing you how to tie a pareo or string flowers for a lei. The water is clear, you can snorkel right from the beach (although admittedly the snorkeling is not nearly as lush as the drift snorkel) or swim out to the reef encircling the little lagoon. It's just a super fun, relaxing day, on the beach, in paradise, with your every need being catered to. 😁

I've got snorkel trips scheduled for other days, because I would rather spend every moment of our day in Taha'a enjoying Motu Mahana.

Is there a charge to go to the Motu Mahana?

@dolls123 Thank you so much for coming back and answering my question so quickly!  It sounds like if I go in with the appropriate expectations it will work just fine for what I need. I'm like you, I always print confirmation letters!  They are on my phone too, but sometimes the cell service doesn't work so I have the old school paper back up!

I see you are booked on the new line Explora.  I have been watching to see how those first cruises go (finally!) because the ship looks beautiful.  Windstar will be new to me since I have solidly determined that I definitely prefer smaller ships.  Less than about 1000 passengers.

    Hello,

I saw that you were inquiring about the Fare Suisse from dolls123. I'm wondering if you did decide to stay there and if so what your experience was like? I'm going on Paul Gauguin in April 2024 and have booked the Fare Suisse for one night before we board the ship. Much cheaper than the pre-cruise package that Paul Gauguin offers.

  3. I know I can call Paul Gauguin and ask this question, but I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced the departure day package that Paul Gauguin offers. I'd be interested in opinions on what you thought of it. It's not cheap so just wondering if it is worth the $$$$.

Also, since there will be a long wait time at the Papeete airport prior to the midnight flight home are there any restaurants in the airport to get a bite to eat in the evening before boarding?

    Thank you

The cost of the day pass depends on day of the week.  It also includes lunch.

    Mon -Thurs is 8,990 XPF

Fri - Sun is 10,700 XPF

Technical check in was 10am and check out 5pm.  However we actually arrived around 9:30 and left around 6:30pm.  We went to the bar and had an appetizer and drinks before departing.

Thanks so much! Great information. I'm assuming the price you listed are per person? Also, how did you book the day room? Can you do it on line or do you have to call?

  5. Hello,

I'm booking the Sept. 2017 cruise on the Reflection for my 30 year old daughter and her soon to be husband for their honeymoon next year. I put a deposit on an oceanview room, 3129. It says the room has a convertible sofa bed. I assume it"s a sofa that makes into a bed if you have more than two people staying in the room and that there is also a real bed (or two twins that make into a double bed) in the room. Then I got to thinking that maybe the convertible sofa is the only bed? And if so would it be big enough for two adults? Does anyone know?

    Thank you

  6. Hello,

I'll be going to Rangiroa for one day on the Oceania Marina form 8 am to 4 pm. I have booked a tour with Leon with Pa'ati Excursions. Has anyone been on this tour? I'm concerned because the return time is 4pm and that is the departure time for the ship. Wondering if they care about the time and guarentee to get you back to the ship on time. I hate cancel but I'm not going to mis boarding in time. Has anyone been on this tour?

    thanks

  7. Has anyone been on the tour offered by Leon with Pa'ati excursions on Rangiroa? Sounds like a great tour. Wonderng what people who have been on it think. Also wondering about the return time at 4:00 PM and boarding the Oceania Marina ship that leaves port at 4:00. Wondering if anyone had problems getting back on board ship in time for departure.

    Thanks
