  1. I hardly think that it is disgraceful, it is poor administration certainly and as it was their mistake, they should try to resolve the matter. No-one died so I don't believe that we need to overreact.

It is disgraceful in as much that it causes unnecessary stress at what should be an exciting time.

  2. Excellent BlueRiband :) Thank you so much for every post. Informative, witty, well written and a pleasure to sit down with a glass of something, and properly study. I esp. liked the highlighted sentiment.

If your formal report is as much fun to read, as descriptive and as classy as your blog in this thread, and I'm sure it will be, then I for one can't wait for it to be posted after the review period.

Thank you again for all your hard work :)

    All best wishes,

I enjoyed this also....well done BlueRiband and thank you.

  3. Whether people praise the ship or condemn it on here it invariably ends up in this usual bun fight with everyone losing the original plot and arguing about something or nothing, according to their own personal feelings and opinions.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, if l was thinking about a Cunard cruise as a newcomer and looked at some of these posts l would run a mile.

  4. We will have to agree to disagree in that I don't consider that the OP was 'jumped on from a great height'.

Reading through the previous pages, the OP has replied to various posts with comments such as

' But only someone of your obvious ignorance would choose to judge otherwise.'

' You are actually coming across, to me, as an unhappy person.'

    ' How classy of you.'

One might suggest that the OP has been jumping on others from a great height.

Now what was it l was saying about backlash whenever one happens to comment on something that another disagrees with.

  5. I am pretty good at understanding accents, but my husband not so much. We had lunch in The Counting House in Glasgow, seated right next to these two older ladies who came into town on the bus and shopped every Tuesday and then had a late lunch together. They were very funny and told us all about the free transportation for seniors in Scotland and all of their adventures together on the bus. My husband said he didn't understand a word they said, which is too bad because they were very taken with him and flirting outrageously. :D

What a lovely story which just goes to prove we can all have fun with everyone whom we may meet, and isn't that just what life is all about as we grow older.

  6. Thank you Judy for your understanding. :)

You are welcome Tracey. I do understand your point of view as l am very open minded and not Cunardified.....now there's a new word to digest. or not!

Most folk on here are very happy to help and discuss matters in an intelligent manner, others however appear to want to battle, be sarcastic and pull one down. I would suggest you ignore this type of behaviour and leave them to it because they really aren't worth responding to.

I'm sure you have very happy memories of your voyage on QM2....please don't allow folk on here to mar those moments you enjoyed on board.

  7. One person's 'backlash' may well be another's 'response'

I would have thought that it goes with the territory that if one posts on a public forum one must expect responses both for and against.

One must also be prepared to defend one's point of view.

No, the op got backlash just for expressing her personal opinions and was jumped on from a great height which happens most frequently on this board and is not at all necessary.

One of course may defend one's point of view but this can be done in an extremely better and more pleasant way.

    Judy

  8. I think we should respect the views of the OP as that was her personal experience and should indeed be admired for taking the time to share.

We don't all place the QM2 on a pedestal even though she is a magnificent ship....sadly things change and sometimes not for the better.

The true Cunard experience went away with the QE2....but this is only my personal opinion.

Like most things in life....some are good and some not so good. I have cruised and crossed on QM2 and again, personally prefer the crossings.

I hate KC with a passion, l also hate the location of the Grill Restaurants and the fact that the grill decks are not that exclusive these days because they are not policed....for want of a better word. This would never be an issue on QE2...in the days of John Duffy and Andrew Nelder and indeed the Warwick era. That ship reeked class...whichever accommodation was chosen.

We all have our own take on Cunard and cruising in general, one pays their money and takes their choice.

  9. We will also be on this cruise and are curious to see how the demographics work out. Our last cruise out of Southampton was right between the Jubilee celebration and the Olympics and air prices were so high that very few Americans booked the cruise. Because of the low booking numbers, the cruise prices kept dropping dramatically, resulting in a huge amount of folks from the Midlands taking the cruise. We couldn't understand a word that many of them said.

The last few cruises we have been on (one was a HAL westbound crossing and the other from LA to Hawaii and back), my husband has commented on how many old people there were on the ships. Then when we got to talking to people we found out that almost all of them were younger than we are. It's all in your head. ;)

We are in our 70's but haven't decided to get old yet. :D

A funny and refreshing post Punki.....I have many family members from the midlands and l can't understand them at times either! So many dialects over here ...try having a conversation with a Glaswegian!!

All lovely folk of course with their own tales to share.

I'm not going to get old either....;)

  10. Kings Court has been an issue from day one and l agree with Pepper here that it's going to be a huge task to alter it now because of the structure.

We always referred to it as 'MOTO' which is akin to our motorway service areas here in the UK.

It is just a glorified canteen and not what one would expect to find on a so called luxury liner and imho it's also too near to the Grills which doesn't bode well for those passengers who have forked out mega bucks to be exclusive.

It's all rather sad for those who wish to enjoy the Ocean Liner experience, having said that we must remember that QM2 is no more than a transatlantic ferry.

DH and l enjoyed every moment on her, she is a wonderful ship that has sadly in recent years lost her way.

  11. In this case we are 3 adults with one baby. We have a QG table for 6. Our fellow friend is traveling alone (she lost her husband only weeks after coming back from a World Cruise on QE).

I think it could be possible to invite her. Otherwise she has to be eating alone in Britannia.

Sadly it doesn't quite work like that. Your table for six will not be yours exclusively.

As has been said, you may with probably great difficulty manage to swing it for one lunch but l very much doubt you will be accommodated for dinner.

Dining in your suite would be the best option if you don't wish to leave your friend alone.

  12. Hi,

I'm new to cruising and going on QV soon with our 9 month old son.

He is too young for the night nursery, so was wondering if we are able to take him into the bars?

He is very well behaved and easily goes to sleep at his bedtime in his recliner buggy (we've been away in UK recently and he slept through holiday club entertainment no trouble).

Also, has anyone seen babies in the main restaurants? We have a high chair reserved, but not sure if it's the "thing" to do.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Hi and welcome.

Go and enjoy your cruise. You will have a fabulous time on the Queen Victoria and I am sure your son will also enjoy every moment. Please take little notice of the negative remarks on here.

    Judy

  13. Although this thread may very well be a wind up, l don't think we should be too quick to judge.

QM2 is a mere transatlantic ferry which is what she was built for. Queen Victoria is a cruise ship.

I have no problem with anyone who wishes to 'do' their own thing aboard any Cunard ship. I have seen the worst dressed people on board QM2 on a crossing and have also seen the most elegant.

If the OP wishes to dress in such attire that has been stated then good luck..as it's his/her choice, but it must be said that such desired dress of an evening is not acceptable to most who do indeed enjoy the formality on board.

We pays our money and we takes our choice....live and let live.

  14. Nervous first post....... :o

I was looking for advice on getting from the Brooklyn cruise terminal to our hotel in Manhattan. With 5 in our group I didn't know if it was best to pre-book 2 cabs or just get a couple on arrival outside.

I wasn't sure how much difference there would be on price, convenience of transfer and how quickly the process is for getting off QM2 and away in your transfer.

First QM2 trip for all of us.

    Any assistance would be appreciated

    Apologies for any faux pas.

Don't be nervous, we don't all bite. :)

We have used a few companies for transfers Arecibo included...who were very good. I would however suggest that you ask your hotel concierge to organise this for you, l am travelling out to NY soon and my hotel have been spot on with this.

  15. In suite dining no problem, we have done this on many an occasion.

You would however be really struggling for this to happen in the Queens Grill, although we were on one occasion allowed to have a Princess Grill friend join us on one evening. A good tip always helps!

    Judy

  16. Exactly my experience :) .

Mine also Pepper....apart from the occasions l have seen youngsters with pushchairs loitering outside the casino dressed like they have just come from a local market stall with the kids squawking at 11pm at night whilst the wives shout like banshees at the other halves to get the hell out of there and then brag that they have got this trip cheaper than an all inclusive to Benidorm.

  17. Hello,I have not been a member on this site for very long and do find navigating sometimes a bit of a problem.

Forgive me please if this thread has been done before.

Sadly, because of the distance from where I live to Southampton,I missed the Three Queens.

I do not intend to miss them in Liverpool on May 25th next year.

It is my intention to stay overnight may 24th.Do we have on the forum any locals who can give advice on well placed hotels please.

    Rodger

I would have a look at Staybridge Suites, l have never stayed there but it's on the waterfront, so very close to all the action.

    Judy

  18. Stefanie, you are right to be excited about what sounds like a wonderful trip on top of your QM2 voyage.

You will not feel out of place at all and l have seen many mobility vehicles on board, she's a huge ship and you'll navigate her well once you get your bearings.

You have chosen a fabulous suite and your butler will l am sure look after your every wish and command.....including breakfast each morning...its just what l choose to do when at sea as l find it more relaxing than having to rush to get ready so early, particularly on a Transatlantic.

I do hate having to think about putting cases out the evening before disembarkation so usually keep a small carry on with me for the essentials...although I've never forgotten to hang on to my leaving attire...but good on you for carrying that off so well.

Hope you and your Mom have a fantastic time.

    Best

    Judy :)

  19. Thanks! && My mom does, I don't think my dad reads it though.

You have done a wonderful job with this thread and also posted some beautiful pictures. Please don't even try to understand the fickle comments on here, the 'Adults' should know better.

It's a new era and a very enlightening one through the eyes of a youngster who will most certainly treasure these moments and the thrill of experiencing a Cunard ship.

  20. Rest assured, I will be seeing this through to the end, and please note that I am in my graduating year of highschool so exams have been brutal. I see this as a hobby that I enjoy, and realizing that it is quite a time consuming activity, that I will not be able to update as frequently as I would like. It takes several hours each time I update, so please be understanding. Thanks.

    Sarah,

Take absolutely no notice of the negative and sarcastic comments, am afraid it's par for the course on this board at times.

I have been reading your blog and thoroughly enjoying it all, you are doing a splendid job and l admire you for taking the time to write considering you have exams which most of us know can be quite gruelling.

Keep up the good work and do finish this 'Live From' we can't all take time out of our busy lives to be at sea more than we are ashore.

    Well done

    Best, Judy
