1. I did feel like Emerald earned an upgraded perk. A considerable amount of money is spent to become an Emerald member. Giving a taste of "the good life" may get more Emeralds to cruise more.

I find it humorous that this discussion is HEAVILY focused on what the top three tiers think should be fair for them or for one of the other three tiers to gain or lose with almost no mention of anything below Diamond.

Looks a lot like our American congressman doesn't it?!

  2. That is a good point about the reduced gratutities the servers in the CL would garner. I hadn't even considered that, though I don't know if it would be a matter Crown and Anchor authorities would consider when and if they are making changes to the C&A program.

As a Diamond Plus, I would very much miss the CL on Oasis and Allure. Those ships have a simply fabulous CL. I really woudn't much miss the CL on other ships.

OH yes me too.......The Oasis class CL is so very nice. WE often choose these ships with the CL in mind. While in there having breakfast or lunch, its so serene. It is hard to believe there are over 5 thousand passengers outside those glass doors!

  3. :

IMHO ROYAL MADE A HUGH MISTAKE IN SCRAPING THE DIAMONDS IN DECEMBER PROMOTION. have been checking 4/5 night sailings on the LOS and the prices seem to be much lower than I can remember from past years with tons of availability. the JS are selling out because they are now the price of a balcony a few days ago.

last week 12/16 LOS balcony was selling for 249.lots of price changing by royal but overall prices do seem much lower.

So what is the problem with this? Book a JS and you have your double points, Youre paying less than last year.

  4. Sure you can meet people in the casino or the Windjammer or at the Art Auction. That's a given. The vast majority of new friends we have made, however, have been made in the Concierge Lounge, Diamond Lounge or at the Diamond Event. It's much more conducive to conversation and sharing.

Conclusion: It's BOTH about the drinks AND the atmosphere of the lounge!

YES YES The CL and DL is a place to share and feel a commonality with other frequent cruises.

I see the bashers and flamers negating the perks and claiming folk shouldn't act "entitled" like its the new word for "liberal" or something.

Well I have cruised exclusively on RC because its a great vacation and expressly for the perks and I have relied on the promises RC made to its frequent cruisers. I continue to cruise and hope to get to pinnacle one day soon and sorry...I have been enjoying the CL now for years and I do feel entitled to be in there while still being very great full and appreciative of RC's continuation of the loyalty program and its benefits.

  5. Sorry folks for the apparent leave of absence! I will get started on posting Day 3 shortly.

I have figured out a work-around for the Google Photos issue, albeit still not as easy as before, but much better than what I initially found -- plus this saves the hassle of having to move everything!

So I had a scare this weekend when my cell-phone (a.k.a. Where all my notes for the cruise are stored) broke on me -- rather, I should say I broke it  -- but those are details which I care not to discuss henceforth! All you need to know is that I THANKFULLY was able to recover my photos/data/contacts and most importantly CRUISE NOTES from the internal memory whist it lay in despair.

    Actual Photo -- Not a Dramatization :o

WOW What did the other guy look like?

  6.
They sent us each a certificate for $175.00 off our next cruise which i was pretty happy with. I thought that was nice of them. I guess it is how you approach them, my husband is pretty low key and handled it, if it was me i think a would have been angrier and not so nice, i tend to get excited. I have no negative feelings to RCCL, We have always been treated well.
looks like it worked out.
I think they should have non-smoking sections, at least for US sailings.
  7. CABIN:

We had connecting ocean view balconies on deck nine, which is a great location for Central Park. Balconies were unusable 90% of time due to next door smokers who were almost always out there and always smoking when they were.

We were on the Alure last Sept. Could never go out on our balcony because of smokers, they also had family members across the hall in a inside cabin that came on thier balcony to smoke. by thursday i had it. went to guest services they moved us to a balcony on central park, nice but missed our ocean view.

It really is a shame we had looked so forward to having breakfast out there. never did, tried the first day had to go inside.

Maybe some day they could alternate decks or make some decks smoking. i can only help this can be remedy. going on the oasis this sept because i did like the ship.

    thanks for review

    Wow this is terrible.

The smell of smoke is so nasty to a non smoker.

Did RCi offer you anything else other than the move?

  8. Counting other people's money is silly. Making judgment about their job in relation to their (perceived) income is foolish and petty.

I think RCi should have two fares...

    (1) for people who agree to pay the gratuity

or (2) People who think it should be built into the fare, or otherwise for what ever reason do not agree with the Western culture of tipping, these people pay a different fare. A price that has the service already built into the price of the ticket. Then they will have no issues, or reasons to bother themselves with the income of anybodies' but their own.

Yes our gratuities do pay a major portion of the server's wages. The price of cruising is lower in part because of this.

To accept the lower price of the ticket, knowing it includes the understanding that you'll also tip the suggested amount only to purposely not tip or tip (what you feel is fair) amounts to dishonesty.

Of course you will not pay the higher fare just to avoid tipping............So atleast at the beginning of your vacation tell the server you don't tip. They'll still do their job. But they too can decide whether they want to perform any discretionary tasks while serving you and your loved ones.

  9. No one ever tips me either......but I am not a waiter, taxi driver, hairdresser or barman. There are few jobs that are based on tipping. Are you one of those? That might explain why nobody tips you.

If you and your partner were prepared to work abroad in say Dubai or some other bull economy for 3 years you would probably make a big dint in your mortgage.

In any event, chosing not to tip is your prerogative. But it eventually puts the prices up for those who do. Plus by not tipping you are breaking the spirit of the cruise contract.

While not an express clause it is certainly Implied that you will tip.

Enjoy your cruise whatever happens. But it's really mean to stiff the waiters and cabin attendants who serve you during your cruise.

YES Yes I agree good response!

  10. I have read the thread from the beginning. It is not a set up. We are in a Family cabin. It gets to me that most people think that everyone can afford a cruise. While most people can, there is a small percentage that wind up on one that can't. I am going to be in that percentage. I never said I was removing the gratuity. All I said was its a lot of money when you don't have it.

I could not agree with you more! :)

    Enjoy your cruise.

  11. Taking a cruise is not an entitlement...If you can afford it. you go.

No jumping. Anyway the person said the cruise was not free because he/she was supposed to pay for things like tipping. Sounds like one should thank their God for the opportunity and find a way to afford the trip. Not make their fortune a misfortune for the soul caring for them for 7 days.

In fact if there are any entitlements here, it' the steward ... he is entitled to expect that if he does his job and meets and exceeds expectations he will receive compensation that includes the gratuity RCI is adding to your sea pass account.

  12. We have a cruise upcoming but it was gifted to us as an extended family cruise/reunion. I have been unemployed and we are in the process of moving for a new job. Smack bang in the middle of all this is our cruise.

While I am looking forward to some relaxation, the tips going on our seapass account is killing me. The cruise was gifted but we were told gratuities would come out of our own pocket. It will be me, my spouse and 3 kids in the cabin for 7 days. $420 is more money than I have.

HA HA I smell a set up. You can't possibly be serious.

If this is a joke LOL iT is funny.:)

On the chance you are not joking.........Please start from the first thread and read what the fine folk here on CC have to say. At this point just about every angle has been covered.

  13. I would like to know if you've prepaid your tips and you were waitlisted for first seating dinner and you voiced that if you had to do anything but first seating dinner and your mate states that he would rather eat early at the Windjammer than eat at the late seating time in the MDR, is that something that would warrant you requesting to have your tips removed. Not our room stewart's tips but the dining staff tips. Or do the tips now include the Windjammer staff?
