  1. We're looking at the Jewel of the Seas for a cruise in 2016. However, we're struggling with cabin selection. Has anyone sailed in cabins 1010 or 1012? We're sailing with my parents and would like connecting cabins, and there aren't a ton to choose from. So, we're considering 1010 and 1012. My concern is deck 11 above them. The deck plans say it's the spa and fitness center directly above. But, the deck plans show the "spa and fitness center" on decks 11 and 12. I can't seem to figure out which one of the two is on deck 11. Is there a little bit of spa and fitness center on each of decks 11 and 12, or is it that it's just the spa on one deck and the fitness center on the other deck? If we'd be directly below the spa I'd be more likely to book the cabins, as I think that would be quiet. But I can't tell. Does anyone have insight into these cabins, or the location of the spa vs. the fitness center?

  2. Unless I'm misreading her original post, she had a normal vaginal delivery and that, according to the rules, she would have had to been post op 1 year for a C-Section birth before she could get a massage. That seems unrealistically excessive, IMHO. The OB/GYNs I worked for encouraged their patients to get massages before and after childbirth.

I am not an idiot. I know a C-section is surgery. Re-read the OP. She gave vaginal birth and was told she couldn't get a massage in the Carnival spa until she was 6 months postpartum. She then added the information that IF it had been a C-section, it would have been a YEAR postpartum.

You're both correct in reading my post. No surgery for me. You're also correct in that I did say I was told by Spa Carnival 6 months postpartum for my vaginal delivery, 1 year if I would've had a c-section. Very outdated policies from what I can tell. Yes, I. Know they're covering their behinds. Just seems excessive.

Next week, when we have the grandparents here to babysit, I'll be visiting a local spa and getting the massage there. They can enjoy the money and it will stay local. So yay for me and the spa. And I can't wait!

If/when I hear anything back from Carnival I'll come back to update.

Thanks for the insights, thoughts, and experiences!

  3. They didn't give me anything with fine print to read. Just a very short one-sided questionnaire asking me name, cabin number, what treatment I was there for, and if I had stress, acne, muscle pains, etc. (things they could provide more treatments for). There was also an issue with trying to cancel the pedicure appointment but being told I couldn't because it was within 24 hours of the appointment. Again, I wasn't told of the that policy or given any documentation noting the cancellation policy. That was fine. I kept the appointment. Being pampered with a pedicure wasn't too bad. Ha! But, again that policy wasn't communicated to me when I made the appointment. Maybe there is fine print. And that's fine. Every place has them. They need them. I get that. I'm just saying make them more available/visible to your customers (and perhaps revamp outdated policies in the case of the denied postpartum massage). Maybe they were just having an off week in communication that week.

  4. To the O.P......That is disappointing about not being able to get your massage-it would have been a great way to end the cruise. I am a firm believer in the benefits of massage. (I treat myself to a 1 1/2 hour every 2 weeks.) I've never had a massage done with hot stones, but it is something I'd like to try...I'm just curious, if the massage could have been done without the hot stones? was this even offered, or maybe you would have been given the same (illogical) reasoning? Truly sorry to hear about your experience.

I love the hot stones. So relaxing! Try it! That said, the masseur said no massage at all, of any kind.

  5. Did they ask you this question on the form you filled out?

I don't think they should rely on casual conversation to determine when you had your last baby.

If it is a policy, it should be on the form they give you.

Exactly. That's what I found really odd. I had been to the spa earlier in the week for a pedicure and had already filled out their form. It asked a few simple questions about whether you suffer from things like stress, headaches, acne, etc....basic things they can help treat with their services. You know, sell you more treatments. Which, based on my answers they definitely tried to do while I was getting the pedicure. But, to the best of my memory I don't remember any questions on the form being medical or asking if I had recently had a baby. If I wouldn't have made the joke in casual conversation she would've never known. And I certainly never saw, or was given, any sort of documentation with their policies.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Based on these replies, my doctor's thoughts, and my growing disappointment the more I think about the way it was handled I think I am going to contact customer service. I know I'd like to see them make policies like this more visible to avoid frustrations. Maybe some feedback will help with that.

  6. My husband and I recently returned from a great cruise on the Glory--the 12/1 sailing. We had a few minor hiccups, but all vacations do. Overall it was fantastic (like our four other Carnival cruises). My biggest complaint (concern?, question?) involved the spa.

Like I do on all my cruises, I booked a hot stone massage for the last night. As a new mom it was something I'd very much been looking forward to, even more so than usual. I arrived for my massage and was greeted by the very friendly masseur. She brought me back to the room and we began chatting. She asked the usual questions, "Where do you carry stress?, and "What do you do to relieve stress?". I answered the questions and a minute or so later, in making small talk, I kind of laughed and said that with a three month old at home I don't get much time to relieve stress these days. The masseur kept talking, asked about my daughter, and then after another minute or so proceeded to tell me she didn't think she could give me a massage since I was three months postpartum. She said she needed to leave the room to go check with her supervisor, and returned a few minutes later saying the policy says they couldn't give me a massage until I was six months postpartum for my natural delivery (one year if it had been a c-section). She said it's dangerous to the organs to get a massage postpartum because they're not fully back in place. So I was turned away, having paid nothing. Since I wasn't charged or anything, I wasn't mad per say, but left quite disappointed. A) because I really wanted a massage, B) because it seemed odd, and C) because I would've preferred to have been made aware of any such policy before showing up and in essence wasting my time.

When I returned home I called my OB/GYN who said she saw no reason I couldn't get a massage. That she didn't know of a problem with postpartum massage, and that she had cleared me over two months ago for any and all activities I wanted to engage in. I also did some Googling and didn't really come across anything saying it was dangerous to have a massage postpartum, rather beneficial.

So, my question is......Has anyone ever heard of this type of policy before, particularly with Spa Carnival? Have you had issues with the spa? If so, did you do anything about the issues? There's a part of me that wants to contact customer service, not so much looking for some sort of compensation, but more so as feedback. But, then I wonder if I'd be wasting my time doing that too.

  7. Hi all. We'll be in Grand Turk on 12/6. I sent an email to the general info@gracebaycarrentals.com email address this morning. They replied right away. But the several messages they've exchanged with me have been from an email address that was todd@gracebaycarrentals.com, and each message has been signed "Leslie". They have availability the day we'll be in port, but the last email says to send a credit card number to reserve the car. Of course, I'm not comfortable emailing credit card info. But, especially since I haven't seen the names Todd or Leslie mentioned here before. Has anyone else been asked for credit card info to reserve the car?
