  1. Just off the Allure and they were all digital too.  Where they used to be near Guest Services there's a laminated paper saying to use the app.  I did see the stateroom attendants had a small quantity, so perhaps if you ask you'll be able to get a copy in the stateroom.

I much prefer the print compasses to the app, even as someone who prefers digital anything and everything.  I don't find the app to be user friendly and it's cumbersome to navigate through activities.  I like the idea of PDF copies or a way to opt in to print if you so desire.

  2. Hello everyone,

I have bid on a balcony from an inside on the august 11th sailing for the dawn.

My question is, when is the usual time when people begin to find out if they were selected or not for the upgrade.

I'm sailing Saturday and I'm still waiting. They have until 2 days prior, but the general window seems to be within 10 days of sailing. There have been a few that are before that, but not many.

  3. If you use the ship's cell tower (or an international land based cell tower for that matter), Verizon (not the ship) will charge you international rates. This is the same regardless of which carrier you have (i.e., not specific to verizon).

So you have to do a tiny bit of homework to avoid that. You could use the ship's wifi to call home using applications like FaceTime or Skype. Facetime is free (but you need an Iphone or ipod). Skype charges you a couple of bucks a month to use their service.

If you went to the verizon website and just went through the international travel dialog at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/trip-planner-tool/ it would show you that calls cost $2.99 per minute, $0.50 per text message sent, $0.05 per text message received.

BirdTravels is correct. Unfortunately, the moment she turned off airplane mode, it switched to the ships cellular network which is why you got charged. To make a call using the internet/WiFi, both users need to have an app like FaceTime, Skype, WhatsApp, etc. or else it'll go over the ships network. She should have left airplane mode on to avoid those charges.

  4. Something that hasn't been asked yet is what kind of smartphone?

If you have an iPhone and use iMessage, then yes, you can use WiFi and send messages to other iPhone users. Be sure to keep your phone on airplane mode though. If you have another device, then unfortunately you probably won't be able to text people.

Texting uses the cellular towers, which at sea is the ships satellite. Using the ships cellular service will generally jack up your cell phone bill. I think ATT is one of a couple (maybe the only?) carriers that might have a package for using the ship's cellular network so check with your carrier before you leave. WiFi is good for apps like WhatsApp (works across any smartphone) or iMessage (iPhone users only), but won't cover normal texting.

  5. I'll be traveling with a group of 12 in a few weeks. We're all staying at different hotels around MCO and then using Cortrans to take us to Port Canaveral. From what I've read, as long as you leave early enough you should be fine. I guess the only problem is if there's an accident on SR 528, it will lock traffic up pretty bad.

  6. Hi everyone! After reading many of the threads here on CC, I decided to reserve CorTrans for my group traveling to Port Canaveral. However, I received an invoice asking for a payment for both trips that is due a month in advance. Have any of you paid in advance, and is it necessary to do so? It seems as though many of you paid the driver when you actually took the shuttle. Thanks!

  7. Hello everyone! I know different variations of this have been asked loads of times, but I haven't been able to find an answer to this one. Is it possible to have Royal do a complete room swap prior to boarding? For example, my girlfriend and I were booked in an inside and are trying to switch with my brother and a friend that have an ocean view. From what I've read it looks like the front desk can do it once we're on board, but I would like to try to do it in advance if possible to avoid the headache of the front desk on the first day. I know that on the TA side, one original name must be on the booking so it can't be done that way without re-booking to my knowledge. So if I were to call RCCI could they change the rooms with my brother's permission, or is there another way? Thanks!
