  1. Hello,

I have been told but cannot remember where, that on Sea Princess, a currency exchange person comes onboard so we can change to the various asian currencies needed. Can anybody clarify if this is correct please?

    Thanking you.

  2. Did a cruise similar itinerary to the princess cruise earlier this year but did 4 days pre cruise to Penang. Been to all these ports took private tours in all these ports had a great cruise. Actually have booked another Princess cruise out of Singapore for 2018. Loved the cruise. If you have any questions just ask.

Rae, We are cruising on sea princess in September and Penang is one of the ports. Do you have any recommendation of a private tour operator to contact?

  3. I was surprised to see the price of the CS cruise we booked is quite a bit lower than the DP one or similitar ones. The DP one is two days longer but the price for the same type of cabin is $1,000 more. The HAL cruises are also higher priced compared to the CS. I’ve been on the HAL Oosterdam and it is nice but I can’t imagine it being as nice as the CS. The only thing with HAL is the ships only carry a max of about 2,000 and there is plenty of room.

Is anyone else surprised by the low price of the CS cruises to Australia next season?

Yes. I booked the CS for approx $400 pp less than RCI Radiance for the same amount of days. Even better, the RCI cabin is a mid range category balcony but the CS is their best category balcony. I was so surprised at their prices when they first came out.:)

  4. For us if it was $500 for a 12 night cruise - and you mean $500 total, as in $250 each - we'd do it. But you have to think of how spending $500 more would affect you financially. At this point in our lives, not having the space affects us more. :)

I've been under the windjammer in the aft and it was of no significance. Now, there is no windjammer in the aft, if you mean totally aft. The new specialty restaurants are there and they don't serve breakfast. There sure won't be people standing there looking over the railing anymore because that area has been enclosed.

Don't even think about putting yourself into debt by picking a larger room. But if you have $500 to spare, I would say it's well spent on a cruise that long. But....your cruise is quite a ways off. If you are a price checker, you might find a better deal.

Just this morning I was able to upgrade from a D2 to a JS on my Radiance cruise in September for $14 a person more. Yes, $28 total.

Whenever I thought like you, maybe there is a reason for this...something really good came of it later. You might have really fun next door neighbors. You might have a cool stateroom attendant. :) You just never know. Patience does pay. And good things come to those who wait. ;)

    Gina

    Thanks Gina,

Yes, great advice, "good things come to thse that wait" and........."patience is a virtue".

I think I will sit tight and hopefully close to the cruise those aft D cabins are still waiting for me to purchase. $500 more is Ok by us but I honestly did not think it would be that much difference.

How lucky for you upgrading for so little for a JS.

  5. Hi Mommobean,

    It is a 12 night cruise. I thought $500 between D and E is a lot too.

This is why a put the question out here to see if it really makes that much difference. The other consideration is the D aft cabins are directly under Windjammer Cafe and am wondering if they will be noisy early mornings.

I will just have to be patient and as they say "things happen for a reason"?

  6. We were in 8654, an E1, for the five day repo in May [i think overlapping with the last five of Mommabean's 19 days]. Different deck/location but cabin should be the same size. Obviously alot of this is a matter of personal taste/preference, but for the two of us, it was great -- we had plenty of room. Of course we were packed for 5 days, not 19.

I can post some pictures if that would help.

Edited to add: On the other hand, extra space is always nice -- but I wouldn't pay a whole lot extra for it.

Thank you, it would be great to see a picture of both E and D.

  7. It is great to see different opinions. I do like the position of the cabin we have and having vertigo I thought it may be best to try mid ship. It does have a great verandah.

But.............,I also like room to move. Have to check what the TA can do about price. Decisions, decisions. LOL.

  8. Thank you both for your prompt replies. We had an Aft balcony on the PG , which was 229 sq ft and I am concerned about the smaller E type cabins which I believe are about 180 sq ft.

I do not think it would be a major concern being a distance from the elevators, good to work off the late meal. (Except if you have to rush for a tender) Are the aft balconies in the shade or do they get their fair share of sun on Radiance?

  9. We currently have cabin 7594 booked for our South Pacific Island Cruise which is an E2 on the hump. Has anyone had this cabin and your thoughts please?

Currently thinking of upgrading to D2 Aft cabin on deck 10.

Is it worth paying extra for the slightly larger cabin? Would there be a huge difference in comfort by going from midship to aft?

Any advice would be most welcome thank you.

  10. The Paul Gauguin sometimes gets overlooked by cruisers down here, but sometimes they come up with some good specials. It is Luxury cruising and you certainly get what you pay for. To whet anyones appetite for the ship , and Tahiti , heres a link to a slideshow of our visit to the ship. We were on Regents Seven Seas Mariner from Ak to LA, and at that stage Regent were running the PG as well When both ships met in Bora Bora we were all invited to visit both ships.

Oh David, You took such great shots of the PG. You have just brought back all the lovely memories we have of this truly magnificent cruise. She truly is a beautiful small cruise ship.

If you have not yet been allocated a cabin I strongly recommend booking an aft balcony, No 767 if available. We had this stateroom, which is wider than the others and has the largest balcony.

  11. I believe the food on board is to die for.....and they have a sports platform at the back for direct water activities.:):)

Yes David, the food is excellent, never a bad meal. Make sure you have the fois gras and the lobster with vanilla sauce. in La Verandah, the french restauratn, but you do have to book.

The water activities are water skiing, canoeing, wind surfing at no charge and scuba diving at a charge. At the start of the cruise go down there and get your snorkelling equipment and take back at the end of the cruise. Enjoy.:D

  12. We are fortunate to be going on two cruises

adults only : 11th June 2011: Paul Gauguin Society Islands

Whole family :2nd Sept 2011: NCl Sun Baltic

Oh you are going to be really spoilt with the Paul Gauguin cruise. We went last year and it was our first cruise. All the avid cruisers told us "we raised the bar too high for our first cruise". Maybe we did but it surely was memorable and gave us a taste for more. The beautiful colours of blue against the volcanic mounts are postcard perfect. Make sure you do Patrick's excursion at Bora Bora.

  13. Thanks Big M,

    A great idea.

I have been looking at some of the bargains available overseas at the moment.

Super deals, but when you add on the air fare, pre and post hotel stays, and now the skyrocketing insurance costs, they are bargains no longer.

Now looking for good deals in local waters.

    KiwinKruzer,

I totally agree with you. We were also thinking with the aussie dollare so high to look for another overseas cruise, But the airfares, etc shock us back to reality.

We too are now thinking of a cruise from here instead. There are so many more choices of cruise ships now, it makes it all much more interesting and favourable. Only problem is option anxiety.........
