  1. We were on QV about 5 years ago on a 2 week med cruise from Southampton. On 6 of the sea days there was a course of dance classes, inc tap and ballet and other modern dance styles like jazz ballet. A different dance for each class. It was taken by Imogen who then went on to become Social Hostess on QM2. She was very good and the class was very popular. We all got a certificate on the last day. It was held in Hemispheres and it was a bit wobbly on the day we crossed the BOB.

I've been taking my ballet shoes ever since but have never seen anything like it since. I even mentioned it to Imogen on a TA on QM2. I would love to do it again.

  2. Exactly the same happened to us in 2015, when on a back to back. We had only booked balcony cabins before but the deal at the time was excellent for guarantee ocean view and out of our price range for balconies.

We were firstly given 2 different cabins for each leg, so we were very pleased to find they had changed this and given us 4001 for the whole trip. We were thrilled when we arrived in our cabin as it was so big. The window is not a porthole, it is a square window and gave plenty of light and views. To be honest, apart from the extra handrails etc in the enormous bathroom there isn't much to notice. For us the space was luxurious and we felt very lucky. I'm sure Cunard would not allocate this cabin if it was needed.

We had no problem with the forward position as QM2 is a very stable ship.

  3. We did a round trip last year, 2015, Soton-NY-Soton. It was advertised as a round trip but when we got the confirmation it came through as 2 separate voyages with different voyage numbers. (Booked with UK TA) Ok, we thought as we will have 2 lots of benefits as Platinum level, which proved to be correct.

Our cabin was a guarantee and on assignment we were given 2 different cabins but both in the same area. The problem was that we planned to be on the 7hr excursion in New York and how would that pan out with moving cabins, new key cards etc.

Luckily, shortly before the cruise we were "upgraded" to the same cabin for both legs and to boot, an accessible cabin which was huge. Apparently, if you do have to move cabins, the steward does it for you and you just need to collect your new keycard on the changeover day.

  4. I take my pillow everywhere. I put a pink cover on to distinguish it and just leave on the bed when cruising. The steward makes the bed as usual propping my pillow with the rest. I keep it on the last night and take a handy drawstring bag or rucksack which I stuff it into. Easy as it's a goose down pillow and can roll up quite small.

  5. I am having some trouble with the Cunard website and cannot determine if the beverage package is always available for purchase. This will be our first time on Cunard. We are booked for 78 days on a portion of the 2017 QV world cruise. Thanks for any insight.

We booked our cruise in the UK and the drinks package was included in the price of the cruise and only available for certain cruises and on offer for a limited time. It was not a "drinks package" that could be purchased. This thread is about that offer.

  6. We had the drinks package on the QV in January. You can order drinks up to the $9 price. The service charge is added but paid for by Cunard so the bar staff still get their tips. In fact they are very keen to serve you for that reason. When we ordered a glass of wine, we were offered the bottle, charged as (say) 5 glasses. The staff are all well informed about the package and will help you choose your drinks.

We're not big drinkers but we managed a few cocktails and nightcaps and of course the "posh" coffees that are part of the deal as well.

We really hope they do the drinks deal again.

  7. Us too. As big fans of The Bridge we were hoping to travel across to Sweden. You do get to see the Oresund Bridge as you sail into Copenhagen. We sailed in at midday so got an excellent view. We did the Complete Copenhagen excursion which took us to a small fishing village on the coast overlooking the Bridge. The trip also includes a tour of the town inc the Mermaid, a visit to and lunch at the Carlsberg Brewery, followed by a river cruise. A very good day.

We met a couple who were independently travelling by train to Malmo for the day but didn't catch them afterwards for an update.

We enquired at the Tour office about which tours would include a view of the bridge and neither of the 2 tour staff had any idea or informed us that we would see it on the sail in. Not impressed so glad we had done our homework.

  8. We recently did Copenhagen on QV. There were a couple of excursions advertised as you described that could no longer run. We wanted to do the Swedish sojourn to Malmo which we were told couldn't run because of border security issues. In general we have found that new excursions do get added occasionally once on board.

  9. Update.

I was checking my Voyage Personaliser last night and noticed that my cabin number had changed. Checked on the "return" voyage and that cabin had changed too, both the SAME cabin. I haven't been notified by email and my luggage labels are still showing the old original cabin numbers. Not an upgrade as such, same category but a deck higher. Result!

BTW will be get two separate Dining allocations?

  10. Koukla- mou, another mou here! Maggiemou. Are you Cypriot by any chance? ;):)

I had a B2B experience earlier this year. I had to change cabins. The packing was done for me. I did my own personal stuff but the stewards and housekeeping did the rest. All clothes were lifted out of the closets on hangers and hung on a trolley and wheeled into my new cabin. it was all re hung and even my huge display of flowers were transported to their new home. No hassle and all done very swiftly without any issues. Go out and enjoy, and forget about it. You will think a fairy Godmother has been in when you return.

    Yiasou, Koukla- mou.

Kalispera Maggiemou. Not Cypriot but live in Kerkyra. Thanks for your advice. It sounds like it won't be a problem. I'm pretty easygoing so will enjoy the cruise wherever I am.

I did contact my TA who quoted the cruise line as saying "both cabins are booked for the other leg and the only way of getting the same cabin would be to upgrade" Well I won't be doing that, but they can upgrade me if they wish.

  11. Thanks for all your helpful answers. So pleased about the double internet time!

The cabin on the second leg is a better grade than the first one so we are happy to move.

Another question. As we have 2 bookings, there are no excursions showing on Voyage Personaliser for New York. Can I expect there to be excursions available onboard?

  12. I've just booked my first Transatlantic B2B via a TA. The booking has come back as 2 separate sailings with different Cabins on each leg. This was advertised as a back to back with a Guarantee Cabin.

Is this usual to have the separate voyage numbers?

What is the procedure at New York? (we plan to do a ship's excursion if there is one)

We are happy with our cabin allocation but what are the chances of getting the same cabin for both legs?

    Thanks for any advice.

  13. We've purchased a Coffee Card on QV. We bought ours at Cafe Corinthia which is where we ended up having coffee most days. You get a "card" which gets stamped each time you buy your coffee, so you have to remember to have it with you. Any type of coffee was available and also hot chocolate. The card can be shared, that is, you can order for 2 people with one card. I think you can use the card at any bar that serves coffee, but we stuck to Cafe Corinthia as they have the variety and those great coffee machines. Great way to use OBC too.

  14. We were booked on a Holy Land cruise last year with P&O and weren't told the changed itinerary until we embarked. We missed Haifa, Ashdod and Alexandria. The alternative ports were Limasol and Rhodes with no compensation or chance to cancel. Our first and last cruise with P&O.

  15. I have done the QM2 Neuengamme excursion whilst on the Hamburg/Oslo cruise. My mother was German (Protestant)and she lived in Hamburg during WW2. This was my first visit to Hamburg and I wanted to learn about its past.

Our guide was Jewish but lead the tour with dignity and honesty. It had a profound effect on me and I have since read many books about the Holocaust. Being half German and brought up in England post war was not always easy, especially for my mother.
