I’m not disagreeing, but I don’t remember that.  Where does the elevator open on that deck?  I never took an elevator to the same deck as the Vibe on the Escape.  We always walked up one deck and entered the Vibe area from the public sun deck.

Is there an elevator for The Haven that takes you that deck?

There is one elevator that drops you off around the corner from the entrance on the Escape.  Only one, of the bank of 8 so you have to be sure to get on the correct one.

When and where can you redeem the Dinners?  New to Platinum status.. Thanks

You do have a choice of restaurants...if I remember correctly it is Cagney's or Moderno or LeBistro or LaCucina.  You do have to make reservations as you do with any specialty dinner.

  3. I just got off the January 9th cruise on the Gem about an hour ago.
we received a letter saying the cruise was cancelled and we would receive a full refund and a 50% off FCC and would be returning to NYC as soon as possible.   Things changed and then they said we would be following the snow storm up the coast trying to stay out of the weather and arrive in NYC as scheduled.  We had one really bumpy day and night.
things are constantly changing in these trying times for travel.  go with the flow or stay home until they’re normal.
we overnighted in St Maarten and we had two lovely sea days.  I was disappointed that we didn’t hit all the islands scheduled but it’s not NCL’s fault.

we had a great time and I wouldn’t hesitate to schedule another cruise

  4. Right now, I am on the Gem cruise to nowhere.  Having an amazing time.  We are stopped by the Star right now and transferring crew.  I haven’t heard of any covid outbreaks among passengers or crew but we have had four room stewards in six days so I am drawing my own conclusions.
update:  51 crew transferred from the Gem via tender.  Guys with hazmat suits on board the tender.  Hope they recover quickly

Same.....if this holds true for our cruise, we would have to test at the port, on day 3, and then again on day 6 I think.....UGH.  Logistically that is a lot for NCL to take on.  Or, as you point out, perhaps we miss those two ports.

I just returned from a transatlantic with Viking.  They test everyone - passengers and crew- EVERY day.  Felt safer on that ship than I do in my hometown.

Planning on cruising to the Caribbean on January 9th.  Looking like it's going to be a cruise to nowhere.  Not totally happy but at least I'll have sun, sea and an open bar.  I'll make do!

  6. I’m not sure if it’s typical but for our November transatlantic they took a double payment ($7,223  X 2) out of our checking account.  It will be three weeks tomorrow and no refund yet.  I have two ocean cruises booked along with a river cruise.  I’m about to cancel all.  Just unacceptable.

How do you know that? That would be fabulous!! Any possibility of lifting mask requirements on board?

The test is being stopped at the airport on June 15th but not by Viking.  If you are required to be vaccinated and tested before you get on the ship, I think the mask requirement is silly (even though I’ve been wearing a mask religiously for 18 months).

    No handicraft classes.

I think it’s one of those…..it depends.  Into the Midnight Sun two summers ago, we had needlework classes on two sea days. Supplies were provided.  Very enjoyable.

  9. Thanks for your input.  In answer to some questions, the price for the Haven was $1000 more than the aft balcony AND a studio.

It was going to be a surprise but we decided to let her choose and she decided she wanted her own space.  She picked an inside down the hall from us.

Thanks again.  I was thinking it might be our chance to justify the Haven.  😊

  10. Our 39 YO daughter is joining us on the Epic in January.  We’re already booked in an aft balcony.

First, I was looking at a studio or inside.  An inside is a bit cheaper with 20% more space.  Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each?

Second option is booking a two bedroom Haven Suite.  This would only end up costing about $1000 more.  Can any one who has stayed in the two bedroom, tell me if the second bedroom is claustrophobic and does it have any storage? It’s very difficult to tell from NCL’s pictures/floor plan.

    THANKS!

  11. We were on the Escape the end of January for a 14 day.  I think we went to the supper club on three nights.  One dinner in my opinion was inedible (chicken thigh).  The other two were good.  If you want to see the show, go.  It’s not like you’ll starve. 😊. We never booked, just showed up as a standby and never had any issues getting in.

Have fun on the Escape, it’s a fun ship.  Tell Deepak (hotel director) that Bob and Maryann send greetings.

How do I start a roll call for June 16 on the Viking Sky ...Into the Midnight Sun?

We are on a June 16th sailing Into the Midnight Sun but it’s on

Jupiter, not the Sky.  Are there two?  We’re leaving from Bergen

  13. Boarding normally won’t start until about 11:00 AM but arriving at the port will give you a low boarding group number. If you are platinum or above, you will be boarded after the Haven guests. Anything below platinum won’t get you early boarding.
