And cruises through Prins Christian Sund, which is spectacular. Yes, people would need to fly home from Reykjavik, but what a wonderful place to spend a few days after.

According to John Heald we will be cruising through as well:

Heald continued to say, “To get there we cruise through the iceberg filled ( no Leonardo Decrapio jokes needed) Prince Christian Sound and that is, well, I don’t have the words to describe how this feels as you see the Polar Bears, Whales and Yaks. And I am sure these Canadian ports which I have not been to before will be sensational as well.” ~ Cruise Hive

Assuming it would be the 5th sea day, but I don’t like to assume.

Rcl also has a similar cruise. Rcl is also best booked when cruises are first released. I'm waiting for alaska 2023 to come out before I commit. Hopefully by then covid and masks are gone. I didnt like mask rules on vista. I prefer rcl way of having vaccinated areas for theater with no masks while watching shows.

Do you know the date? I don’t see any on their site going to Greenland. Thanks!

I was on an inside cabin of the Koningsdam, a ship of the same class.  It was fine for 12 days but I wouldn't want to be in it for 21. I agree with @MisterBill99 about taking a guarantee and hoping for an upgrade.    As mentioned by others the service level on HAL is so friendly and congenial you will be pleased.   If your experience is like mine once I did a 30 day cruise you will be in love with cruising. I still take an occasional shorter cruise but not often.     Longer cruises are what sold us on cruising for our retirement leisure.

We are already sold on cruising. We normally do 14 day cruises and they are seeming short now. Moving up slowly, we aren't retired yet but those are our retirement plans! We did select the option for upgrade without notification, but either way we will make it work!

  4. Hi! My husband and I just booked our first HAL cruise on the Rotterdam leaving 1/25/23 - 2/15/23. This will also be the longest cruise we have been on. We have sailed on several 10-14 day cruises. We are super excited, but know very little about this line/ship. We will be in an inside cabin 4113. Any advice about ship/ stateroom/ cruise would be greatly appreciated!! 😀

Prior to American Table the pasta dish was available as an appetizer size.  That is no longer available.

We just got off the Pride journey cruise January 20th and I ordered the pasta dish as an appetizer several nights and always received an appetizer portion. The server didn't question my order or anything either. True it no longer indicates it on the menu but it never hurts to ask and they were fine with it.

  6. We loved our first cruise. Second cruise was a "family" cruise to Canada....it was not fun! Too many conflicting personalities, the weather wasn't good (even though it was July) and too many first time cruisers! All me and my husband seemed to do was play guide and referee, there was too much "waiting" around for other people.

If that had been our first cruise it very well may have been our last! We learned so many good things from that experience. We did another family cruise a few years later (after a few by ourselves) and the expectations were different, everyone had cruised before and we didn't wait for others, we met where we were going and didn't feel like we all had to do everything together! It was so much better. 🙂

  7. For an older, smaller ship the Pride is really nice. It has the 2.0 upgrades and is a lot of fun. I sailed her this past summer and enjoyed her more than I thought I would. She is a little tacky, but not nearly as tacky in person than it appears on video. I really have no complaints about the Pride. Great staff and a lot of fun.

I couldn't agree with you more! LOVE the Pride. We have sailed on her 5 times with the 6th booked for January (will be our second 14 day cruise on the Pride). I have no interest in the Mega ships! I will keep sailing the smaller Carnival and/or Royal ships and have a great time! Don't knock them until you try them! :D

  8. Big mistake!

Speaking from experience, I disagree that it is a "big mistake". You just have to adjust your expectations and understand that you will have some cold days. But the Pride is a great ship and Baltimore is a wonderful port.

Carnival (and Royal) have no issues filling their ships in the winter out of Baltimore. Plenty of people, myself included, don't mind cruising this time of year. :)

Give it a try and decide for yourself.

  9. We have cruised several times out of Baltimore in January and February. All but one cruise we had nice warm weather by the middle of the first full day. However, the one cruise we didn't have warm weather at all except for 2 days. It was only 50 some degrees in Florida and the Bahamas.

Like someone else stated it really is based a lot on luck. :) But we love the Pride and the enclosed pool area is very nice.

We have decided we will only do longer 14 day cruises to the Southern Caribbean from Baltimore in the winter now.

Give it a shot and just be prepared for some cooler weather. Bring the appropriate clothes and have a great time. The Pride is an awesome ship and Baltimore is a great port. ENJOY!!

  10. Pride is my favorite ship in the fleet so I always pick her first. They close the roof over the pool when its cold so you don't lose a day on deck. They also have loads of "indoor" activities so you don't feel like you're wasting a day traveling I cold weather.

I totally agree with you. We just take the cold days to relax and get in vacation mode! Love sailing out of Baltimore and love the Pride! I would also pick that cruise. We are booked on the January 2019 14 day. Can't wait! :)
