Wow, 9 hours? Which port is that excursion from?

Has anyone done the Edinburgh and it's Castle excursion on Carnival? It's listed as 9 hours and trying to see if it's worth it or not? Does anyone know if it includes entry tickets for anything, or is it basically a bus ride from cruise terminal?

Hi - I was on the cruise 9/12-16th as well. Funny enough I was actually booked on the 9/16-22 but switched it a couple of months ago to accommodate my aunt who was traveling with us. The cruise was an 80th BD present for my mom, so I am glad we were actually able to go to Bermuda instead of getting a free cruise.
Anyway to answer your question, I asked about the $70 or so credit. I was told that the port taxes were much less than anticipated, so it was a refund. I actually was pretty impressed with Carnival refunding us, they could have kept it and we wouldn't have known any different.
Did it take you a long time to get off the ship? it took us an hour to get into the building, it was ridiculous. They kept on saying it was customs, but there was no line in customs and they had 6 agents working.
We were doing the express debarkation and went to the Sunshine Restaurant for a sit down breakfast. Went back to our cabin around 8:15 to hear over the PA that they were running ahead and that our group had already been called about an hour ahead. So we walked right off. Made it off ship fairly quickly, longest delay was customs. Made it back to Penn Station and caught a 10:30 commuter train.

Have been there a couple of times. Last year walked over to the Pirate Republic Brewing Company, and had a good time. Have walked up and down Bay Street and through the Straw Market many times with no problems. A few years back we also walked over to Junkanoo Beach and had no problems (there's a police station right across the street).

Was there this past Saturday, the 14th. We were the only ship in port, so it wasn't overly crowded. Have to say though it does need a lot of TLC, so changes would be welcome. Just hope they don't create overly high price points though!

Been there six times, and usually don't book any shore excursions. We've taken buses/vans/cabs and rented scooters. For multi-day docked trips we have bought daily or multi-day bus passes, so we were able to go all over. We tend to stay away from the very busy Horseshoe Bay beach though.

Great end result. I just got off the Sunrise on the 16th when this cruise departed. We were disembarked in Manhattan before she repositioned to Brooklyn. For some reason everyone on our cruise got about a $140 or so credit for a refund of port charges, which we were never told about. Carnival at least makes the effort to do the right thing!

Did several Carnival cruises over the years (plus Celebrity & RC). Have to say Disney was up there, and the rest of the family, thought Disney was superior. As to worth the cost, add in flying from NY and it's a tough sell, but we did take advantage 2 years ago with an 8 day Disney cruise without flying and was easier to swallow.

Wow! Fool to be doing something like that in unfamiliar waters.
How was the walk? Long?
Took about 15 minutes, tops. Was very hot day, so felt like longer. Walk back was much quicker!

Did Junkanoo Beach last Tuesday (July 31) on Disney cruise from NYC. We shopped in am, had lunch back on ship, then walked to beach after that. Found it no more rocky than north shore beaches on Long Island, NY. Beach was reasonably clean for public beach. Chairs were being rented, but we didn't bother. We never felt threatened, and a couple of vendors wandering around took no as an answer and moved on...quite friendly actually. Plenty of other cruise guests there at same time, so that added to comfort factor. Bought a couple of bottled beers, good price.
I advise you not to try diving off concrete wharf...saw a tourist split his scalp open hitting something and get taken away in an ambulance (police station right across street).

Yes, it's a public beach.. but discreetly, and no glass bottles on the beach.
also, public drunkeness is against the law.. and you can be arrested if things get out of hand.
Scubagirl,
While on the subject of Junkanoo Beach, need your opinion if this place fits the bill for a family of four (including two teenagers) who only really want to walk around town for some sightseeing and shopping, then be able to walk to a beach for a quick dip.

That was only a 100 foot section of a deck bridge that spanned the Mianus River in CT. I traveled that route all the time back then; they diverted traffic onto local streets and it was a mess. They did open a temporary crossing with reduced capacity, but it was about 3 months before I-95 was fully open. And it was only on the northbound side, so they still had the southern span in place. Much different type bridge replacement. When they recently replace the Tappen Zee Bridge over the Hudson River, it took about 5-years to complete.
