  1. Stay away from the mdr. The food was so terrible last cruise 12/28 -1/3, I had to send back food on 3 occasions. The lettice used in salads was limp and out of date. The meals were served late and cold, particularly the meat choices. The desserts were second rate.

At he buffet I found the found much better. There were more choices and their desserts were unbeatable. Much more fun to eat on the 11th deck.

  2. Of course it is the responsibility of the individual traveler to know the entrance requirements of the country they visit, but the amount of misinformation from Celebrity line phone reps was surprising. I spoke to first tier reps, then had the reps call to check with the department that dealt with foreign ports.

I was on the cruise from Vancouver BC to Tokyo, and there was no consistent answer from the cruise line as to which port & city we would disembark in. Many callers were told we would be in Yokohama 2 nights, many were told it would be Tokyo on the 27th and Yokohama on the 28th. I myself was given conflicting information each time I called.

Can't understand why there would be lack of consistent answers from the cruise line on something so basic as which port & city we disembark the cruise.

Celebrity isn't the only cruise line to give incorrect info on the phone. I've had the same experience with Regent and Royal Caribbean as well. Always triple check anything they tell you and from another source if possible. I had the same problem trying to find out something as basic as which port we were to dock in southern France. An agent swore to me it was in one port and then I read on Cruise Critic from someone who was on the ship that gave me the opposite answer. The info from Cruise Critic was correct!

  3. Thank you everyone. Your tips are very helpful. We will be going to the NYC visa office on October 7th. They are closed Oct 1-3 and they said 10-6 and 10-7 will be super busy. I have no choice but to go on the 7th. I took off work and my mom is coming from 3 hours away. I don't live in NYC but we will take the train. Would love to get it done same day. I have began working on the applications and checklist. Does anyone know the entry type??? Is it a single entry??? Also visa is only needed for Shanghai? Looking forward to getting this done and sailing away. We did get an apology from Celebrity and they said We should of been told but yes it is our responsibility. Have a great day all. I will update soon.

A few years ago, my husband was able to get a visa the same day he applied to the consulate by tipping the rep he was speaking to - good luck!

  4. We asked that we get to Amalfi/Ravello and RinL was happy to customize the tour for us which worked out very well. Of couse, it means less time somewhere else - so we didn't have time for Sorrento. We did go to Pompeii and Positano tho.

We've been on the Amalfi Coast both ways - I would say if you have a choice to opt to use the outside lane going toward Amalfi. But both are fine.

  5. RIL accepts cancellations, I believe, up to one week in advance without penalty. I agree that you should e mail them and tell them what's on your mind and let them work with you. They are very easy to deal with. We booked in advance, but waited untik\l about a month before to book the French ports and while Revelations ( highly recommended ) was able to accommodate us for Nice, we were shut out of Toulon, so why take a chance.

  6. The whole idea of hiring a private tour is that they will plan the itinerary to make sure you see all the must sees! Definitely a private guide for Pompeii and the Vatican and a very nice luxury for the rest of the time too.

I would also suggest Rick Steves Italy tour guide for an overall description of what you shouldn't miss, etc., so you will be prepared. I like his book the best, bur Frommers and/or Fodors are also good investments.

  7. to those of you who are wondering how to plan your Rome in Limo tours, don't stress about it. E mail them from their website and tell them you want a comprehensive tour of the "don't miss" sites. Leave it to them and their drivers to plan the day for you - that's what they're there for! In addition, I would get a guide book so you are familiar with what each place has to offer ( my favorite is Rick Steve's Italy ).

I must have e mailed them 20 times or so with questions before our tours ( Amalfi, Rome and Florence ) and they answered each one within hours and were very pleasant and patient each time. Trust them - you can't go wrong!

Reply With Quote "we loved this cabin - so much fun to look out and see the boardwalk, the ocean and even people opposite us enjoying their balcony. Privacy was not an issue for us - just close the curtains while dressing.

We booked a B1 cabin for Allure of the Seas in January 2011, but we took the end cabin 729, for an even better view!"
