  1. Thank you for taking the time to comment about your recent trip on the Star. Was the dining room open for lunch on embarkation day?

We are sailing on her in Jan, out of SF & I also am excited to read any & all info... Would love to see some pics if you have any to share. Thanks again!

The dining room was not open on our October 25th sailing except for BVE folks. We missed it.:(

  2. We need some advice from UK experts. My DH and I booked a British Isles cruise on the Royal Princess for next May. Now we're having second thoughts and wonder if a land tour would be better. Neither of us have been to the UK before. We are experienced cruiser but have never done a multi day bus type tour. We would appreciate your suggestions.

  3. Hi

Please can anyone tell me if it's ok to take a smallish suitcase filled with bottled water and Pepsi max on board the Emerald? We live close to Southampton and it seems the easiest way to transport it. If so, do we check it in with the other luggage or would we need to keep it with out carry on bags?

I will be buying the soda package but my husband only drinks Pepsi Max which you cannot get on the ship.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

No problem. You can also just put a luggage tag on the carton of sodas or water. It will magically appear in your cabin.

  4. If you own 100 shares of CCL stock, you should also be able to get a room credit for the one night cruise. Used it a few years ago on the same itinerary. Makes a a cheap cruise with the credit and mini bar set up.

I hadn't heard of this stockholders benefit. Would you please elaborate? Is it available for longer cruises?

  5. I really hope not.

I'm with you but unfortunately we have limited choices lately leaving from Florida if you're looking for a 10 day trip. :(

Bring back the old ships & send the new ones to Australia or the west coast for a few years.

I like sailing on a ship that feels like a ship. I have no interest in 3500 passenger ships. I guess if Princess replaces the old ships we will have to go back to HAL.

  6. The atmosphere of formal nights has definitely changed over the years. Our recent cruise seemed too casual. Luggage space really isn't the issue. You can always wear a sports jacket on the plane. If you hate to wear a jacket, go to an alternate dining venue or go to NCL. Don't try to turn a Princess cruise into another night at Denny's or the bowling alley. A cruise is supposed to be special.

  7. We've done five Alaska cruises. We had better weather at the beginning of August than the beginning of July. Who knows if that is just coincidence. It is very variable. 35 degrees to 75. Vancouver is a beautiful city and worth spending time in. I would make sure my itinerary went through the inland passage, not around it, just cutting into the three port towns. The water will be very smooth with scenery on both sides of the ship. If this is your one and only trip to Alaska try to do the cruise tour and get up to Denali National Park. Inland Alaska is a whole different experience but really worth doing. What ship? The Island, the Coral or the Pacific. Smaller is better when you're trying to see the Glaciers. I would go for Glacier Bay and Hubbard or College Fiord. Independent tours are readily available, safe and much more individualized in Alaska. If you are interested in Whales, Juneau is amazing. Catch a tour at the pier or book online. Some flight tours are really affected by low clouds. We like to see how the weather looks before laying down our $$$ for seaplanes or helicopters. Have a great time.

  8. We just got back from Alaska. We did late traditional dining and the one night we had a schedule conflict we treated ourselves to Sabatini's. We thought it was perfect for Alaska where it stays light so long.

  9. I am a platinum member with Princess despite never sailing with them (due to sailing on another Carnival Corp. Co. line)

Will I be invited to the past passenger party?

I have never heard that sailing on another CCL line contributed to loyalty levels. Does that mean my HAL cruises count toward my Ellite level:confused:

  10. On our recent Island cruise we were told they will add a bunch of new cabins. Sure hoping it won't be on oue favorite aft decks. Does anyone know the details? Will they add an International Cafe?

  11. I don't know if anyone else has notices this. While on our recent Alaska cruise on the Island we noticed several people pretty tipsy before lunch on sea days. One group was using the deck near our balcony. We figured they were starting early to get their money's worth. I wonder if this will be a trend with the all inclusive package. I'm not criticizing, just observing and wondering...

  12. We are just back from the Northbound Voyage of the Glaciers on the Island so its fresh in my mind. For Glacier Bay we picked up the Park Rangers at around 7:00 am. Shortly after a naration began that could be heard on the decks. We hung out on the aft Baja deck to be out of the wind but I believe, from past experience, that hot drinks were served on the upper decks. Hot chocolate is also available to buy from the Patissere in the atrium on deck five. Blankets were available to check out from the pool towel room on deck 14. The park rangers set up some tables in the Horizon Court with information, books to buy, etc. Later in the afternoon there was a ranger presentaion in the Princess Theater.

In College Fiord the onboard naturalist did some narration. It has been a long time since we were in Tracy Arm but I suspect the naturalist would be around then as well. Besides pointing out glaciers, points of interest and animals, the naturalist gives three presentations in the theater during the cruise.

Enjoy your Alaskan adventure. Don't forget your camera and binoculars! The Island is our favorite ship. She has a wonderful crew.
