Maybe helpful for anyone packing for Oasis this summer. We are currently in the Med on her.

Main Dining room have been strict with dress code on Formal night. Men were being turned away in long trousers with smart polo shirts. Jackets not necessary but a long or short sleeved shirt is the minimum.

The majority of people were dressed up. I saw lots of dinner suits and sparkly dresses - long and not so long.

So far we have also had a 'white' night and a 'tropical' night.

As always anything goes in the Windjammer.

Thank you for sharing! First tie Med and Oasis cruise coming up August 8th. Any other helpful tips or insights???

We have sailed on partially chartered ships before and to be honest it hasn’t impacted on us. I think they try and minimise the impact to other cruisers. The Allure is a big ship!  At the end of the day though only you can decide if you want to take the risk.

Just curious how and if you were notified by Royal that the ship was a partial charter? We are booked on Explorer next Feb 16th 2020 and the only way we found out was the Sailing was removed from Royal's website and someone on a FB Group said that sailing was charted to a Group. Royal has not cancelled or notified us of the charter. Thank you for any info....

  6. Good morning all....just killing some time at work on a slow friday. 202 Days until our first ever Western Med Cruise on the Oasis (also a first on the Oasis class). Just wondering if the cruise line changes any daily activities to cater to the ships current location? For example i assume no steel drum bands....things like that. Do they tweak the MDR menu's at all ? Thank you and Fair Winds and Following Seas to all......

  7. Hello, we are new to the Oasis Class and will be taking our first Oasis cruise in August in the Med. I was wondering if anyone had a link to a previous post highlighting the big changes compared to the rest of the fleet? I know due to size we need to pre-book all shows once they are available (tips like that). I also thought i read they seat you at the Windjammer and of course the neighborhood layout and such. Any help is appreciated. I will keep combing the boards for all Oasis posts, but not as easy with the updated CC layout.

Also on the cruise.  The Royal app still seems to list 2nd night as formal and you reserve special dinners for NYE.  We won't be booking the special dinner as we are traveling with our married children and almost 6 yo granddaughter for our anniversary, too pricey! We have 2nd seating so I figure the evening will already be in party atmosphere.   Did note that even though a port day, it's an early departure.   Printed out our luggage tags and set sail passes, though I know our children haven't!   27 days to go!

Yes, we just did the same. very excited especially now we hit December!!!!

  9. The family and I have never sailed on a Holiday Cruise and will be on the Brilliance 5 nighter December 29th celebrating New years Eve after leave Grand Cayman.

    Couple questions.....

    1. I assume Christmas decorations will still be up....someone had mentioned a large Christmas tree in the Centrum area??

    2. What type of New years Eve countdown events might they have? Do they do anything else throughout the evening to work up to Midnight besides the normal evening show in the Theater?

    3. With previous 5 Night cruises our second night which has been a Sea day were always the Formal Night. Do you think they would hold off one more Night for New Years? Doesn't matter too much as the Wife and I enjoy dressing up....

    4. We will have our 11yr old triplets and were curious if the Kids Clubs would be doing anything special for the Holiday?

Thank you all in advance....131 days but who is counting.....

  10. We are booked on the same ship, probably same itinerary, but a month earlier. We chose Italy because we really want to visit Rome. We plan on arriving at least 3 or 4 days earlier to experience it. It is more important to us than Barcelona which is one of our port stops on the cruise.

If saving money, easier transport is best for you then go for Barcelona. If it's about which embarkation/disembarkation port means the most to you in terms of sightseeing, pick that one. That's what we did.

We booked the Rome Itinerary (July 25th 2019) because it is Rome and will be coming in 3 days early to see the amazing city. I am very curious to read the follow up on this post however....

  11. Hello all....

My wife and I will be sailing our first Med cruise and it says the ship leaves port at 8pm. We are trying to gage how much time we have before boarding opens.

Q1: What time do they allow you to board? Is it the same as say a 4pm departure in the US?

Q2: Is disembarkation the same when you return? For example are all folks off by 11-12pm?

  12. For hotels in Rome it can be challenging. Pick an area that is near sites you want to visit. cruisemom42 gave you an excellent area.

Each time we do our research I use Trip Advisor. I narrow down to the area I want to visit. I look at the hotel write ups and for those that interest me I go to each of the hotels own websites where I look at additional details including pricing and the accommodations.

    Keith

Thank you Keith. I know we 1 want to visit the Vatican and 2 the Colosseum and then everything after that is great. Just being in Rome will be amazing for us.

  13. This is a silly game that the cruise lines play because in some parts of the Med, the port where you actually dock isn't the real 'destination' city or place that most cruisers want to visit.

So, for example, ships that dock in Civitavecchia will often say Civitavecchia (Rome), meaning they dock in Civitavecchia but it serves as the jumping off port for Rome.

Unfortunately, lines aren't always consistent in the way they do this. But in your case I'd say it's 90% or more likely that you'll dock in Naples -- unless you're on a really small ship. From Naples you have a variety of options, not just Capri. There's Pompeii, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, and Naples itself -- any one of which makes for a good day of sightseeing.

Edited to add: Oops, sorry. I missed that you are on Royal Caribbean. I'd make my estimate more like 97% likely it's Naples.

Thank you for the help! Sneaky like that I suppose. Any recommendations by chance on Pre- Cruise Hotels in Rome itself? Thinking since our cruise leaves on a thursday we would spend Tuesday and Wednesday in Rome.
