  1. He is the best captain we have ever had 40 plus cruises and 5 different lines. You will see him all over the ship

He has just been on a mini series about Alaska in the UK where he was the captain and yes you are right, he was all over the ship. He was also announcing where to see the wildlife to the passengers. Brilliant mini series. He was Captain of the Star Princess on the show so it must be his regular ship.

  2. We are on the cruise after yourselves and on looking at the Princess shore excursions list for that date (5th May onwards) they do list the dogsled in Juneau. As you have said other companies don't seem to start that early so we have gone for the dogsled option in Skagway. Maybe see if that works for your cruise. We are booked through Alaska Shore Excursions (not with Princess) who are 60 dollars pp dearer.

  3. I want to thank you all for your assistance and ideas. The Boeing Factory and the Snoqualmie Falls are both viable ideas and hubby has driven over in the US before anyway.

Seriously thinking of the car hire as all the post cruise excursions are aimed at the 3 hr tours of the city doing what we will be hotel based next to anyway and then dropping you off at the airport at about 1 to 2pm thereby leaving us with 6/7 hrs in the airport. Hell!!

Hopefully Princess participate in the self disembark programme so that we could get off early if we so desired rather than waiting for the colours to be called and then trying to find your luggage in among all the rest.

  4. The rental car idea sounds practical if you are comfortable with metropolitan traffic. It would solve the luggage storage problem.

One of the highlights of our trips to Seattle is going to Pike Place, which is really close to the pier. I also like the suggestion of taking a ferry to Bainbridge Island, and I think that would work out timewise too.

If you could work out storage in the cruise terminal area, you could also consider taking Uber to get around and see more of Seattle, for example the Space Needle. If you don't get suggestions on luggage storage on this thread, contact the cruise line and see if they can make a suggestion.

Unfortunately for us we are flying Virgin who do not participate in the luggage storage at the pier with transfer to the airport.

Am seriously looking into the car hire aspect and was thinking of the Boeing Factory for that day. With the day and a bit in town before the cruise we can easily do the local nearby attractions.

    Many thanks.

  5. Hi Am looking for things to do on the last day after disembarking cruise ship. Flight home to UK is not until 8 pm at night. We are flying Virgin who do not participate in the Luggage Storage / take to airport programme so will have luggage with us. We will arrive into Seattle on the 3rd May early evening and have the remainder of that day (probably just food and drink and bed), following full day and possibly half a day on the Saturday before embarking cruise ship. As we will have had a full day in Seattle and are situated in a hotel downtown (pretty close to Space Needle, Market etc will probably see or do them on that day). All the cruise line and tour operators on the final day just seem to do the Space Needle, Market etc and they are only 3 hr tours which would drop us at the airport at about 12 midday or 1 pm latest. Really don't relish spending the majority of the day in the airport. Any suggestions or any other cruisers out there travelling back to the UK on that day who we can maybe join up with and make a full day of it. Wait to hear from you all. Elaine

  7. From what I can remember from last years cruise on Glory, one side of the upper deck is smoking, one half side of the casino is smoking (around the bar area), and one side of the promenade deck is smoking. May be more but we tended to stay outdoors on the upper decks most of the day and evening.

  8. you've asked this in several places and several times and I've answered at length ... looking for more?

or collecting replies to add up the recommendations for a winner?

note OP is familiar with going to SoBe

As far as I am aware have only asked this question once on this forum. Perhaps you are reading someone elses as well. Have replied to other people on other subjects about what to do before leaving later that day - perhaps that is what you are reading

  9. Thanks

As we are from the UK it pays to do the two cruises together with a flight package. Doing some islands which we enjoyed a couple of years ago.

No we will not have luggage - that will be staying unpacked on the ship for another week. Don't know if Carnival do come in as late as they state, perhaps regular Carnival cruisers can advise me??? I know that they went out of port way before Oceania Cruises left port when we were there.

Mostly cruised out of the UK and they state that they will dock at about 7.am or around that but invariably they are docked already at 5 am or just afterwards. Perhaps Carnival come in earlier than they state. Have just looked up taxi fares to South Beach from the Port and it is coming in around 25 dollars or just over. As there are 3 of us it would be cheaper to get a taxi than to pay 3 HO HO fares.

Still any other feedback from any other cruisers out there will be appreciated.

  10. Hello to all the experts out there,

Am travelling on Carnival Glory in June on two separate one week cruises.

Carnival itinerary has her arriving at 8 am and departing at 4 pm. What can we do in the few hours which we are docked. Presuming that you can walk off Miami cruise port as last time we were there we were taken directly to the ship and on return picked up a airport shuttle directly outside the ship. We then left luggage at airport and caught the Airport Flyer bus to South Beach and spent day there until returning to airport for flight home.

Know that the HO HO buses will be around somewhere but is there anything else we can do in the few hours available to us

Many thanks in advance for the advice I know I will get from you,

  12. Left luggage locker room is in Block E if I remember rightly. Its landside. Guys will give you a ticket so that you can retrieve your cases later that day. Enjoy the trip to South Beach. We had a great time there just wandering about and enjoying the views.

One of the other replies above has suggested the same but for the price you can't go wrong.

Check out Miami Airport website. It will tell you which block the left luggage room is. Also its a monorail train which takes you from the airport building to the bus station. People there will help you obtain ticket and tell you which bus stop to wait at for the Flyer.

  13. Have not stayed here before but have just recently booked this for one nights stay

Reasons are that we are a party of three and rooms have a couple of queen beds and the sofa bed as well so should be plenty of room. Pictures look good. Price is good as well.

Behind a motel we stayed at two years previously so know the immediate area.

Price for the Comfort Suites was £5 more and that included the continental breakfast.

Sportsbar down the road where we had a very large snack meal and several drinks in a fantastic atmosphere - it was St patricks day so you can imagine.

Breakfast the next morning was at the Ihop a little further down the road. This was because the motel we were at did not do breakfast.

Other plus points are the free shuttle from the airport and free shuttle to the port of Miami.

  14. We were in Miami two years ago and followed advice of one of the Miami experts.

What we did was use one of the shuttle buses outside the ship 10 us per person to go to the airport. There we left luggage in the left luggage room and then we took the airport train to the bus station. There we bought 2.35 us dollar tickets each way per person to South Beach. Ride was approx. 45 mins express (two or three stops only) and we spent the whole day in South Beach. Got the bus back to the airport at about 6 pm for a 10.50 pm flight back to the UK.

One point I would make is if you want some food make sure you get it landside as there were hardly any facilities at all once you were airside. Plenty of opportunities to eat and things to look at landside though.

Was a very enjoyable day out . Definitely would not want to spend more time in the airport than I have to.

    Would highly recommend the above.

  15. Hello Cliff and Pat

    Elaine and John here (hotlady)

Hope that you had a safe return to your car and that the parking / transfer ended up Okay. We did self disembark and had texted our guy we were leaving the ship. As we walked out of the terminal building he drew up so perfect timing.

Have rebooked with him directly for the forthcoming cruise in August.

  16. My wife travels with a fairly large hard sided samsonite suitcase which easily fits under the bed.

I travel with a full size soft sided suitcase and it too has no problems fitting under the bed.

Due to the lack of storage on the S-Class ships I often use my suitcase as a storage drawer and keep stuff in it and can easily access it as needed.

Good to hear that you can get a Samsonite case under the bed as most of the ones I have seen are quite bulky. I know they come in different sizes but even so...

Also a good tip for using the suitcase as a storage drawer for stuff that is not going to be used day to day - hopefully - ie umbrellas, rain coats etc . As we are doing Scandanavia and Russia am playing safe and taking a bit of all type of weather gear. warm cold wet etc.

  17. Hello

Does anyone know how deep a suitcase can be to be fitted under the bed and even if you can fit suitcases under the bed on Celebrity Eclipse.

We are thinking of taking a case which is 10.5 inches deep when lay flat (as though you are packing clothes into it) and wonder if this would be able to fit under the bed?

If not able to fit under the bed, where can you store suitcases in a balcony cabin (deck 7)

    Many thanks

    Elaine

  18. Your ship is docked at Langeliniekaj so your ships is docked just next to The Little Mermaid.

Bus 26 will get you directly to Tivoli so that is probably the easiest way to get there.

Now I'm just namedropping but things to see in Copenhagen are the royal residence at Ammalienborg Palace (change of the guard at noon), Rosenborg Palace with the crown jewels, Nyhavn and a canal tour, Christiansborg (the parliament).

Also Copenhagen Zoo, they will soon get 2 Pandas from China as a gift to the queen.

The zoo will be the 5th zoo in Europe with panda bears.

The Blue Planet aquarium has hammerhead sharks, how cool is that.

    Hello Danish Viking

Thank you for all the information. Given us plenty to think about. Will probably be doing Tivoli on the first evening and will see how we feel for doing things on the following day.

Will let you know on our return as to what we did.

    Thank you again.

  19. Hello Everyone

We will be travelling on Adventure of the Seas in September 14 and will be visiting Olden on 9th September between 8 am and 3 pm.

Would like to go and see one of the glaciers. Briksdal or Kjenndalen

Which one would you recommend as being the best to see

Is there any public transport available. Have been in touch with local Tourist office who say that there is not. Don't particularly like using ship excursions but will have to bite the bullet if that is the only option available.

    Many thanks in advance

  20. Hello to everyone out there.

Do any of you seasoned cruisers have any information on what would be the best sights / attractions to see in either of these two ports.

We are travelling to Reykjavik on 3rd/4th September - arrival 14.00 and departure 13.00 - not good times for doing trips.

Akureyri we are there on 5th September from 8.30 am to 16.00

    Many thanks

  21. Hello Danish Viking

We will be arriving in Copenhagen on the 26th May at 15.00 and departing on the 27th May at 16.00.

Have thought that would go to Tivoli Gardens and have a look round on the first evening.

Any suggestions on the best way to get there?

Also would else would you recommend that we see whilst we are there?

Think that we would probably pass the Little Mermaid if we were walking from the pier towards town but don't know where we are docking. We are arriving on Celebrity Eclipse.

    Many thanks

    Elaine
